Legally, one signature is needed...it depends on which state law allows that such. Some requires TWO signatures...some requires one signature. There is more story than you think. @dersankt With the second implant the MOM LIED on her information sheet and put her husband down as the child's father. The clinic KNEW he was not the father but they didn't care. The doctor that did the surgery even wrote a letter saying the real deaf father should not have summer visitation because the child would not have her CIs on enough. That is how this doctor follows his oath of "DO NO HARM!" IT IS MORE IMPORTANT FOR A CHILD TO HEAR THAN HAVE THE LOVE OF THEIR DAD!

Nice to hear you say that but how to change it? Even though the mom and deaf dad have "joint physical and legal" custody, it sure doesn't seem that way. The first order stated that Emma was to be exposed EQUALLY to both the hearing and non hearing environments to feel comfortable in both. She was always exposed more to the hearing. Yet the mom and her family have accused the deaf dad and his family of forcing Emma to remove her implant even though it was NOT true!!!
Emma does like her first CI. She hates the second one. The audiologist testified in court that since she had not done that good with the second she should not be forced to wear it around her dad. BUT then she went on to say how the brain would atrophy if she didn't use it all the time and she demonized Deaf culture. The judge wouldn't let the maternal grandmother talk on deafness as the mother's attorney said she was not an expert!
That's why there is so many issues that deaf people are so angry and opposed to those people in that field, don't think that ASL is good enough for the deaf kids to learn it, so they rather do other things so those people give lots of misleading information to the parents so they want to see DEAF out of the window and i am not that surprised that the audiologist demonized Deaf Culture, which she is part of those people who want to see DEAF culture, history and ASL out of the window....SICK.
I am more on the side of daredevil541 because there are some pros and cons about CI from those who have CI. Some are happy with it but many are not. Those who had it done as adults with their own decision seem to be happy but many who had it done without their approval as a child are not. Several of the latter have had the CI removed. So the real problem here is inserting CI before the child is old enough to decide for himself/herself if he/she wants it.

I was wondering when Emma was born, did Shaun sign the birth certificate, if he did, then he has the authority to sue his ex girlfriend's parents, especially the stepfather, is not the real father but Shaun is. There is an proof that it is a forgery but why did the court go ahead and favor the girlfriend's parents? Todays CI children have all the support they need and they have huge community events that are the inspirational equivalents to many Deaf Expo's happening each year. There's a lot more inspirational support for CI children than what you see coming out of the deaf expositions for the deaf people.

Shaun did claim paternity after the girlfriend consented to a DNA test. He filed a child support case which she signed off on saying she didn't want his support. But 7 months later after her boyfriend and her broke up she asked him for money. Then she let him into the child's life for a year. Later she got a new boyfriend to whom she is now married to but separated from. She would rather leave Emma with her step dad than let Shaun have her. Will try to write more after this post.
She can't do that if Shaun's the dad. Shaun will have to go to court to get visit rights and possibly full custody. All it boils down to is a good lawyer and money. You could also try law schools..they often have students working on cases for free. It helps greatly if Shaun has a job and a place for the child to live.
I think court will make a good judgment for Shaun because Shaun is suppose to sign not the stepfather. Shaun is always be there for his child. I was observing one of the mainstream schools where I met deaf girl in the 2nd grade classroom. She was wearing the CI.. She still don't ever understand what the teacher said.
