Rodeo, in my opinion - was once a sport of sorts just as other equine based disciplines derived. It as to show the talent and skill of a "cowboy" in possible ranch like situations. Like many equine sports, the original intent has been skewed and marred where its is not all together a different perspective. Rodeo has become unnecessarily violent and brutal and do you know why? Because that's what the audience wanted to see! Bigger bucks, faster times, etc. Now look what it has become?
i live on a farm/ranch and we dont ever do anything like this to our calves,steers or horses. we rope the calves but then we wait for them to slow down. not pull the rope and nearly choke them to death! this is really sad that some people enjoy doing this to poor helpless animals....

Rodeo is working HARD to eliminate injuries to animals. Do accidents happen? Yes, but they are RARE. Out of all the rodeos I have been to (hundreds of them, plus hundreds more practices!) I have only seen 2 calves get injured, ACCIDENTALLY. I have never seen one killed.

I highly doubt there was more than one or two injuries,if ANY.It is rare for those animals to get injured.I agree that calves and steers who are roped do not enjoy their jobs like bulls and broncs do,however they are only roped a certain number of times,there are STRICT rules in effect about not jerking down the calves or the cowboy is DQ'd & fined,though SHARKs won't tell you that, there are SPCA/Humane Society officials & veterinarians on hand at these rodeos watching the cowboy's every moves.

these aren't real rodeos, i was watching the nfr last night and right before it started they were showing one of the really good broncos there and he was in the pen as calm as can be, he was perfectly did not have a trace of abuse. and when he was in the arena and shot out the chutes, while he was bucking his ears were forward and he was really getting into it. he knew what his job was and he loved it

Gosh i don't know a thing about rodeo but i can tell that it isn't that bad, the cows- sure they get slaughtered for meat but that doesn't matter if they die by rodeo, these animals are well cared for, better than you could care for one of your animals.

Cowboys care for their animals. This video is misleading, because animals dying at rodeos are rare. Rodeo is not a bad thing. If you feel this way don't eat meat.
It seems that most of these animals are new to this so they get too scared trying to get the Flank off(A rope like contraption used to make the buck located in the front of their legs). They get so scared sometimes that they don't react properly and injures themselves at times like these. This reaction is a little uncommon.

Rodeo, in my opinion - was once a sport of sorts just as other equine based disciplines derived. It as to show the talent and skill of a "cowboy" in possible ranch like situations. Like many equine sports, the original intent has been skewed and marred where its is not all together a different perspective. Rodeo has become unnecessarily violent and brutal and do you know why? Because that's what the audience wanted to see! Bigger bucks, faster times, etc. Now look what it has become?

i live on a farm/ranch and we dont ever do anything like this to our calves,steers or horses. we rope the calves but then we wait for them to slow down. not pull the rope and nearly choke them to death! this is really sad that some people enjoy doing this to poor helpless animals....

Rodeo is working HARD to eliminate injuries to animals. Do accidents happen? Yes, but they are RARE. Out of all the rodeos I have been to (hundreds of them, plus hundreds more practices!) I have only seen 2 calves get injured, ACCIDENTALLY. I have never seen one killed.

I highly doubt there was more than one or two injuries,if ANY.It is rare for those animals to get injured.I agree that calves and steers who are roped do not enjoy their jobs like bulls and broncs do,however they are only roped a certain number of times,there are STRICT rules in effect about not jerking down the calves or the cowboy is DQ'd & fined,though SHARKs won't tell you that, there are SPCA/Humane Society officials & veterinarians on hand at these rodeos watching the cowboy's every moves.

How many of you get a dog & then dump it on the human society to find another home or the poor animal is euthanized after a home can't be found? these aren't real rodeos, i was watching the nfr last night and right before it started they were showing one of the really good broncos there and he was in the pen as calm as can be, he was perfectly did not have a trace of abuse. and when he was in the arena and shot out the chutes, while he was bucking his ears were forward and he was really getting into it. he knew what his job was and he loved it

I think in the 21st century, its time that rodeos and suchlike were finished, this kind of 'tradition' should no longer be allowed to continue. I cannot see no pleasure in watching animals being tortured and cruelly treated and even have to pay as well. Its all about money and greed, nothing about animal compassion and humanity. The flank is not used to make the horse unable to buck hard. hell its not even tight. it just encourages the horse to kick its hind feet out. Any cowboy will tell you the respect they have for the roughstock animals they're riding. they are by far the best cared for animals in any sport. you're talking thousand, and hundred thousand dollar animals here..they get cared for.

Note the cinch around the waist in front of the rear legs.
That cuts into the leg muscles to prevent the horse from bucking too hard.
You can see how easily the other riders flipped the broncos, pulling their legs out from under them.

And no wonder the horse jumps around crazy when it get beaten, kicked, haw spurs burried in the sides AND have a rope around the balls! Thats NOT the right way to treat an animal. Maybe you people should try dealing with a wild horse. If these horses don't have a place to be used their alternative is death. Most rodeo horses live out on huge ranches most of their life & only spend less than 10 minutes a year bucking. What a life huh? you should be so lucky to only work a few seconds a week. You'd rather see all these animal dead I assume, or do you have a place & the funds to feed every horse born on this continent. Get Real....

Rodeos should be banned world wide. So should bull fighting. I like to think that humanity is beyond abusing animals for entertainment.

@MattBaumann777 Rodeos will never be banned, because it is not only an American tradition, but it helps keep a lot of cowboys conditioned to handle the animals on there farm or ranch, for example, roping a calf needs to be done to brand them and to get them vaccinated so they don't get sick and make other animals sick. Cowboys care for their animals. This video is misleading, because animals dying at rodeos are rare. Rodeo is not a bad thing. If you feel this way don't eat meat.

It seems that most of these animals are new to this so they get too scared trying to get the Flank off(A rope like contraption used to make the buck located in the front of their legs). They get so scared sometimes that they don't react properly and injures themselves at times like these. This reaction is a little uncommon.
