Everytime i am on a train or a bus travelling, i listen to him watching outside of the window getting lost with my thoughts... What a talented musician!!!
You develope a feel for a instrument in particular. He can play any guitar but none with the confidence as this one. Now on the same token when he puts it down in time he will develope the same feel for his new favorite.
he once said "I bought a nice ase for it, it's not an expensive guitar... the case I bought was worth more than the guitar.." He also said it's his most prized possesion. I'd love to have it though, just knowing that it belonged to my favorite musician
So. I went to see him last night in London, and we bumped into him backstage after the gig. I went to shake his hand and then just said "sod that" and man hugged the crap out of him.
Man, I have a Takamine, 10 yearsold , well preserved, and it is so funny when you see this completly cracked Takamine because I immediately think that makes perfect sense. This guitar has many stories to tell, thousands of hours playing, liters of tears droped and still stands with his master, the player. Such a perfect connection that creates this magic when Glen is paying...Just the guitar, him and the loneless of the world...
i love his guitar its clear on all ranges, not muddy, great resonance. dont matter if its like a 10grand or just a 50 dollar one, if it works, it works. Those two holes on it probably helped in the sound quality.
@ukandoittowithkandoo Not that much. That takamine is a pre-lawsuit F360s, an almost perfect replica of the martin d-28, which is an amazing guitar :P The cracks and lost wood would only minimally affect the sound, it might actually increase the projection :P Larger sound hole. Plus it's a solid top spruce, not a laminate. I want that guitar :P
@shmina1 Nah my freind , for excample whenyou buy a new guitar etc a seagull the tone is very bright ?. What Glen is doing here is putting more down up / strokes that give it a great sound, and that is what i am wanting but i play bends and all that stuff because i am not much of a singer ? man im dot disputing the fact its,.s like playing palm mutes , until he kicks in the strum. sorry if don.t make sense had a few smokes and beers but take it easy fellow2
its frustrating when you have to type all the letters..i am in the habit of texting so i dont really care that much about spelling it right..u did understand what i was saying right...so whats the problem.
@reconcilers he also started with it..you can find some videos with his old friend mic christopher playing in the street..great videos and it gave me a smile to see that the hole got a lot bigger..and to see him with the same guitar even though he got famous..artist
@reconcilers Watch him in a interview, he says hes not realy attachted to it, its just a guitar. he grew some attachment through the movie but if it broke he wouldnt have to much grieving or anything. music is inside him not in the guitar.

i know how to fuckin spell...you're the illiterate who needs to be told like a 6 year old...we live in the world of cell phones,i guess you havent heard of it.there is something called texting...and stop reflecting your miserable life through cursing on a comments page...
@kdx723 They didn't put the whole in the guitar for the movie. It was his guitar that he uses. The reason there is a hole there is because at times he is very forceful with his guitar playing, and his guitar didnt have a pick guard. The hole developed over time.
I heard him say in an interview how the guitar had a lot of sentimental value to him, he said that it would have to get replaced eventually but he would play it as long as he could. Or something to that affect
@kdx723 First of all learn proper grammar and that's the guitar he's used for over 20 years and he's connected with it. It's a Takamine NP15 it's an amazing instrument anyway.
Such a wonderful talent. Remember Glen as Outspan Foster, the guitar player from the movie, "The Commitments" back in '91? If you're a fan of good music-based movies you have to check this flix out. An outstanding movie!!
this song is on the cakesale album,a bunch of irish artists(glenn, damo rice, josh ritter, thrills, lisa hannigan, nina pearsons, nina hynes and more)got together and made an album for oxfam and i think one of the ninas did this track, amazin version too! check it out
really heartfelt. i love this song and i love the movie once. i was really upset at the ending, but when i found out from wikipedia that in real life he is dating and in love with marketa, it made me feel alot better!
For the verse he holds the Bminor shape all the time but the bass note moves from B to A to G back to A and so on........For the bridge its D/Fsharp-G-A a few times and for the chorus it's D-A-Bm-G D-A-Bm good luck.......
I usually just play Bb A G over again... and then when it gets to the part where he sings "And some fight you gave.." I play A G A Bb ... hope that helps =X

@reconcilers actually as the wood ages on a guitar it tends to develop a much better sound, as long as it has been taken care of.
That guitar sounds excellent to my ears and is probably worth quite a bit of money even if glen hansard hadn't owned it!
