  • Frightening!

  • when did that happen i dont remember?

  • When I saw that this foolhardy system was used in Beaver County PA (34KV inerneighborhood to 13KV intraneighborhood with the 34KV mounted to the same poles and a few feet above), I purchased a square D overvoltage disconnect and put it in the 50A breaker box feed from the pole. All I can say about the aftermath is "lawsuit time!".

  • Will the disconnect provide 20,000 volts of isolation?

  • They're good for at least that. The specs say the BusWay is good for up to 240KVA. It's called a Shorting T Surge Protector. If the input surge approaches the limits of the surge protector devices (good for 600V), the coil has started to trip and it disconnects the input and throws a short across the lines that have been disconnected. At that point, it would require more than 60KV to jump the gap which only ends on a short circuit.

  • I also have a copy of this video, and i uploaded it to youtube, The date that is on my tape is august 23rd 1988 10:35 AM

I also have news clips i uploaded from this

  • Wow, I live right around there, when did this happen?

  • Not sure this was a training vidio i picked up at a building inspector confrance in 06. it was in there some time or befor i have missplaced the doc that came with this LOL

  • just a note the main substation breaker that was suposed to trip stuck open this happened when the bucket from the tree trimming guys fell into the lines. they only lost 2 house services the ground was so saturated with electricty lots of things sparked.
