@elamite66 I have never stated that the War Between the States had nothing to do with slavery. My statements have always stated that it was not the primary reason for the war, not that it had nothing to do with it. Second without going into the whole debate, the Confederate heritage has been under attack all across the South. My point is we have been losing ground constantly over the years due in large parts to the NAACP, the Media, and the Federal Government.

The south felt the federal government was becoming too powerful and they went to these ideals, to an extreme that actually hampered how well the CSA government ran. Its all there in black and white by the Confederates themselves in their own words. The slave holder planter class feared a GOP take over of the Federal government. Which is why they made sure Lincoln won in 1860, giving them the excuse to leave.

Lincoln's Proclamation changed the focus to slavery for the purpose of keeping Europe from entering the war on the side of the south.

Several of your maps show Kentucky as being a Confederate state. Kentucky never was a Confederate state. Kentucky's legislature was solidly pro-Union as is evident in the 1861 Kentucky elections where nearly all of the candidates that were elected were pro-Union men.

I believe the place I recieved those animated images from was including all States considered Southern, and it was not inclusionary to just the States that were actually in the Confederacy, as I counted 14 states at one map (The confederacy had 11 states).

The KY elections of 1861 saw the election of many pro-Union candidates. When Polk's rebels invaded KY in later 1861 the legislature issued a declaration demanding that the rebels leave, but the declaration did not apply to the Union army that moved into Paducah. The Russellville Convention was illegal and never popularly elected by the people of KY.

When the confederacy seceded and created the flag, it declared that slavery and white supremacism was the "cornerstone" of its entire nation. Err, no. Just no. Heritage of American ideals and way of life: consent of the governed, democracy, social contract theory to name a few. The south felt the federal government was becoming too powerful and they went to these ideals, to an extreme that actually hampered how well the CSA government ran. It was so democratic that it actually harmed the efficiency of the bureaucracy. But those ideals, that is the heart of the Southern heritage. That, guns, and iconic images.

@thecody1100 When one does the research, most of the written documents from A Stephens "Cornerstone Speech" to the various state Articles of Secession, give slavery as the main cause for leaving the Union and creating the Confederacy. Its all there in black and white by the Confederates themselves in their own words. The slave holder planter class feared a GOP take over of the Federal government. Which is why they made sure Lincoln won in 1860, giving them the excuse to leave.

Lincoln's Proclamation changed the focus to slavery for the purpose of keeping Europe from entering the war on the side of the south.

Several of your maps show Kentucky as being a Confederate state. Kentucky never was a Confederate state. Kentucky's legislature was solidly pro-Union as is evident in the 1861 Kentucky elections where nearly all of the candidates that were elected were pro-Union men.

The KY elections of 1861 saw the election of many pro-Union candidates. When Polk's rebels invaded KY in later 1861 the legislature issued a declaration demanding that the rebels leave, but the declaration did not apply to the Union army that moved into Paducah. The Russellville Convention was illegal and never popularly elected by the people of KY.

I understand the pride for your home states, but you are misinformed by the confederate revisionist movement. You can say the Confederacy was about state rights, but state rights to what? You can say it was about the right to leave the union, but why were they leaving the union? Because the North was encroaching on their economy and position in congress, but why did they feel that way? What was their economy based on?
The South fought the war to protect slavery. It's inescapable.

Now the miss-treatment of slaves was not brought to anyone's attention until the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin" Honestly, I have never read the book, but I will say I do know that the first two owners of Uncle Tom are said to have been very kind, but the last one very cruel. Your 500 mile exageration is WAY off. Give me ONE reference where one had to walk such a distance before I will even consider it.

Anyone who sypthasized with the South, that is, even saw the valadility of the South's right to seceede, could be held in jail WITHOUT a arrest warrent, or bail. The South was all about freedom of speech, and the slaves were on thier way to freedom durring the war in the South. First free black soldiers? In the south.
Now the Nazi's did not lose all wars, they conqured Poland, France, almost all of Europe

Infact the 4 Northern Slave States did not abolish slavery until after the war, which was done by congress. Linclon's freeing of the slaves was a tactical choice to weaken what was left of the South's econamy after Sherman already went through making a path over 10 or 20 miles in diameter of destruction and death and several hundred miles deep.

The abolition of slavery was a strategic move that weakened the CSA's international standing and prevented both the English and French from supplying the Confederacy.

@junkerdunk Actually, no, it did, Judah P. Benjamin brought up the idea to the Confederate Congress. Free the Slaves, make them soldiers. And they shot him down, declaring such a move would be against everything they stood for. Lincoln may have been a reluctant abolitionist who had ulterior motives to freeing the slaves, but he still freed them. There were blacks who did fight for the south, but they were still slaves. And they didn't really get into combat.
