I'm going to disagree.

If you listen to jazz or other spontaneous music forms you know that you can totally get away with disregarding the melody... however in this piece you don't lose the main melodic for very long before it is paraphrased again. And the bridge was pretty straight up recognizable.

This isn't 1918. There is no limit on improvisation. Buuuut even if there was, he's well within the realm on sensible.

Anyway, he was interviewing a British author who had written a book about the internet and creativity, and they spent some time talking about funky fur elise, and how lopate's daughther had followed the evolution of this interesting creative thing, and they said that finally there was one guy who really made it funky and great. So I guess that was you.

The point of this author guy was that on the one hand, the internet gives everyone an opportunity to be creative and become famous, but no one is making any money and his point was that the traditional way was to get an agent, a record deal, etc. This may work for some, but is kind of beyond reach for most.
