  • Lennon and McCartney were such egomaniacs and he was more reserved and the younger of the four. He just laid back while they stayed out front. However, George was a great song writer and guitar player.

  • There was an underrated Beatle? Who?

    Is it Pete or Stuart?

  • not under-rated by those "in the know"..thanx for my daily george harrison fix...VERY kwuel musician, and an exemplary human being.

  • LOL "Underrated" is not exactly a compliment. Nobody posts this kind of thing in Lennon videos or McCartney video because they don't NEED such a claim. In the end, calling someone "underrated" is simply code for "why don't people like this guy as much as I do"? The answer might be in his new (only) documentary "Living In A Material World". Which skipped theaters and went straight to cable TV. Not enough wide appeal.

  • Long, Long, Long is another great tune by George Harrison for the White Album. Surprised its not included in the video.

  • Thanks for complimenting my husband, y'all. Hee hee!

  • iirch, there's If I Needed Someone

    rules.

  • @bluebeatlesboy Just take a look at "All things must pass" or listen to it and you'll realise how what you say is wrong. George was a wonderful songwriter!!! Perhaps Paul told him what to play on some songs but George did a great job on many of the other, Till there was you for example.

  • @bluebeatlesboy 'Within you and Without you' was the best song on that album. It is obvious you lack the intellect to understand or appreciate its message.

  • OOOps I meant not "All my loving" but the great "And I love Her" which is beutiful and almost all down to George unless I am wrong??

  • @janiwaka "And I Lover Her" is a Lennon/McCartney composition and it was sung by Paul. It IS a beautiful song, though.

  • @janiwaka "And I Lover Her" is a Lennon/McCartney composition and it was sung by Paul. It IS a beautiful song, though.

"Across the Universe" is also Lennon/McCartney, sung by John. It, too, is a great song, though. But I'm biased as I'm a major Beatles Freak! :)

  • eh is accros the universe not one??

and did not george not contribute immense riffs and actually "make" songs such as

    "All my loving" .

So many beatles songs were "made" by george. He did guitar like it is rarerly done.

  • The fact of the matter is they do refer to him as The Dark Horse which means he's is a hidden & or surprising Genius.Any artist who plays a secondery roll in his own band is a genius because they allow others to showcase their talents. Both George & Ringo did just that. Also consitor other artist have too: Eric Clapton,Billy Preston,Carl Perkins,Jeff Lynn,Tom Petty,Bob Dylan,Brian Jones,Johnny Cash & many others. They made it a practice to play with other artists because they knew for themselves...

  • George Harrison's Top Tunes? Did we make sure these weren't PLAGIARIZED too?

  • george is my favorite beatle, his songs always amaze me with his talent

  • Thank you for the tribute to George - yes he was the under-rated Beatle!! Bless you for putting this together... very touching... Hugs

  • He wrote more interspective than John or Paul without the gitty hooks that most of their songs had.He could out play both of them on guitar without question & wrote some of the best music by any of The Beatles in his solo career.George was my favorite Beatle. I even named one of my cats George Harrison,Sir Albert is the other cats name.

  • @clifbuel - I like George...but please let's not embellish him beyond his talents (which seems to be happening a lot these days by the music industry). Christ, if George is suddenly discovered to be a musical "genius" too...we can all go out and buy the Beatle collection all over again. Only this time with George's weak, effeminate voice featured? If this works out great, next year...they will SUDDENLY discover that Ringo was ALSO a musica "genius"!

  • While my guitar gently weeps is my all time favourite Beatles song <3 George Harrison is my hero <3

  • George Harrison = Beatle LITE.

  • FrightwoIf = Human LITE.

  • I remember when I was 2 yrs. old.... My mom was watching the T.V. she was crying.. I remember asking her why.. She replied, "George died," I didn't know who he was. So I left, now I know I made a big mistake walking away from georgie. RIP George 1943-2001

  • I hadn't fuckin heard "It's all too much" before I saw the yellow submarine movie two months ago... It's one of my favorite beatles songs :S So ashamed I hadn't heard it earlier. I fucking love Harrison, and the rest of the beatles!

  • underrated) album Magical Mystery Tour in any case. Although he had While my guitar gently weeps on The White Album, it was on Abbey Road that George Harrison most shone again with Something and Here comes sun but Abbey Road proved to be a real rock tour de force for Lennon and McCartney, not only on side 2 but with Oh Darling and I want you (she's so heavy) on side 1.

  • In some ways, Rubber Soul was George's major triumph with The Beatles because his songs, Think for yourself and If I needed someone, are arguably the best on the album (with McCartney's Drive my car and Lennon's Norwegian Wood being his main rivals). His contributions on Revolver (Taxman, Love you to, and I want to tell you) are no less good but with more competition, in numbers of solid songs at least, from Lennon and McCartney this time. Blue Jay Way was great but on a faultless (and

  • Piggies is crap

  • @HSAdestroy no you're crap fucker

  • @angellurest ? So everything the Beatles did was gold? Untouchable? I've read somewhere that the beatles themselves though some songs of the White Album were sub-par, and Lennon was very critical of McCartney's and even his own stuff.

  • I OFTEN FEEL THE SAME WAY!!! My mom thinks that George is the best-looking. I can't decide! ^^

  • I like, "Don't Bother Me," and the one that was on Beatles VI.

  • From the time I was a little tyke listening to my brother's Beatles singles in 1964, to buying their albums near the end, I have had a George Harrison bias. "WMG Gently Weeps" & "Taxman" are more relevant today than ever. "Here Comes The Sun" is a masterpiece of art that is eternal. "Something" is the greatest love song ever made. Post-Beatles, George slayed me with "What Is Life" and more from All Things Must Pass, and even into the late '70s & 80s the Dark Horse put out music that reached me.

  • I just wanna hold your hand is one of my favs, I know he didn't compose it but he sings it so sweetly :x

  • @albuorkka ...not to be rude, but are you posibly referring to 'i'm happy just to dance with you'? because i agree

  • @tauntingfrenchman1 You're not rude :D Yes, that's what I mean. I always confuse the name with the other Beatles song , but I prefer the one in which George sings

  • @albuorkka its ok i mix names u too but yea, he sings great on that song, and also do you want to know a secret, the only other lennon/mccartney song he sang

  • Happy Birthday, George Harrison! R.I.P.

  • I agree that he's totally underappreciated. I appreciate the fact that George was an excellent songwriter, but also simultaneously playful and spiritual. The perfect combination! Anyway, I think I'd rank the Beatles (in terms of chillness) as follows: George, John, Ringo, Paul. Paul is at the bottom because I really don't appreciate how he turned on the rest of them at the end. That seems pretty low to me.

  • Definetly should not be an underated Beatle- personal faves- 1st tied George and Paul then Ringo and then John. Only reason John low down is he was so angry and bitter and I just on't like that- it grates......

  • 3. Should they have stayed together longer, time would came, when he would wrote about the 40% of the songs alone. I think the last 2-3 albums clearly shows that Gerorge had a huge impact on them. Needless to say, the the best ones.

    (4. Such a pity that Patti looks the bitchiest among the Beatle wives in the Something video. Yeah, I am jealous:))

  • 1. He's definetely not underrated by me, is my favourite Beatle.

    2. His songs are much deeper and more meaningful and gentle than the "leading" Beatles songs written by P. and J. It's just you need to write hits for the mass and the 2 of them delivered that very well... and the girls went wild. Meantime, George wrote all his songs beacuse he really wanted to tell something with them.

  • who was the one asshole who down rated this video

  • @JeretLedger1985 Me, got a problem with that old fart

  • @thinchris Now that you've pointed it out I do.

  • @JeretLedger1985

There´s a possibility that someone just missed the up button! otherwise I can´t explain! George rules!

  • @Lemmy62Fin Still well said.

  • @JeretLedger1985

    A Ringo fan...

  • @dirtyfok i do like ringo but he is my least fave beatle.

  • @JeretLedger1985 Probably a Paul fan.

  • George wrote the most weird and lyrically beautiful songs.

  • What song is he singing at 1:30? I want to see the video

  • @A1995C i think its roll over beethoven x

  • interesting trivia......the song think for yourself is very unusual in the regard that there is two entirely different bass guitar melodies going at the same time......the obvious fuzz, distorted bass line and a subtle standard bass going in the background. That may be a rock and roll first of its kind

  • WOW WOW WOW; YEAH YEAH YEAH.What a mind opener that was. i always thought George did the background vocals. this was great harmony. How did they do it?

  • not only the underrated Beatles, probably one of the most underrated musicians of all time.

  • there would be no beatles without george. or any other of them. and i also think if they didnt break up, they could make 10 more years of good music

  • Never really like the Beatles but just realized that George Harrison was actually kind of cool. Thanks ;)

  • Does he sing in all of these songs? sometimes I can't tell who is singing.

  • @fangsUPxx yeah, all these songs are sung by george as the main vocal..

  • @fangsUPxx yeah these are all him singing. haha when i first got into them i couldn't tell the difference but now i can tell each of their voices apart as well as who is who. lol but i kinda don't blame you sometimes he does sound like john lennon..

  • I agree that put together they sound very energetic

  • It's telling that George is the ONLY Beatle that gets this kind of SPIN or DAMAGE CONTROL. You'll never find anyone saying John Lennon was "underrated" or that Paul was "unappreciated". Only Harrison's fans do this. It's kind of sad. In your attempt to glorify him, you make George a pathetic figure.

  • @FrightwoIf Ha ha, even here trying to spread your idiocy, are we? Fortunately nobody replied to it untill now.

  • fav beatle songs are while my guitar gently weeps, something, here comes the sun, happy just to dance with you{written i think by john} i me me mine

  • You left out Don't Bother Me, You Like Me Too Much, If I Needed Someone, Love You To, Long Long Long, Blue Jay Way, and Only A Northern Song.

  • George And Ringo are really underrated.

They did some of the best songs in truth.

But not all the people credit them as greatest as John or Paul.

The four of them we're the best and greatest.

My favorite is John but George was maybe the best writer of them but very underrated.

All his songs are biggest. Go George and Ringo!

  • @TheOneBeatleManiac

I have no problem with George or Ringo, but John and Paul were definitely better songwriters than George, and Ringo had virtually no part in the writing of songs (besides the drumming)... The reason George turned out to be such a great songwriter as well was probably a result of being around John and Paul. They were all great, but john and paul were truly incredible, which is why they created a shadow over the george and ringo

  • mellamosean, John & Paul underrated the songs of George, he got a lot of songs that would have been great to hear in The Beatles (All Things Must Pass, Not Guilty, Hear Me Lord), Ringo also tried to write songs, and his songs are great, but for example, Don't Pass Me By seems that it was wrote in early 1964, and it wasn't recorded until 1968.

  • @TheOneBeatleManiac

They may have underrated George's songs, but it was probably because in the beginning he didn't show strong songwriting ability. In the end, he did manage to write some songs on par with the greats written by john and paul, but not nearly as consistently. And I can't say "Don't Pass Me By" would make it into my top 70 beatles songs. Imagine if Ringo and George were the primary songwriters... they wouldn't be seen as the same band... not even close.

  • @TheOneBeatleManiac

I think people shouldn't forget the roles each of the members played. Ringo's role in choosing drum beats may have had a very key role in the popularity of the songs. That is very hard to assess; I think he was a good drummer for them but not vital to their success. I think George Harrison's style of guitar playing was good for the band, and his songs got better and better, but I don't think any of it was vital to the success of the band.

  • @TheOneBeatleManiac

Now John and Paul had very similar roles in the band. They were the main songwriters and lead singers of the band, and had pretty comparable worth to the bands success IMO. That's based on what actually happened...

Of course we can speculate, if they had incorporated George (& maybe Ringo) into the writing process more, we would have seen more results from George (& Ringo). From what I know, John & Paul would help each other, but usually left George on his own...

  • George is the greastest if u agree with this vote it up

  • george harrison was one of the most under rated beatle but he worte some songs and almost all the music doesn't that make him one of the best?

  • George was , is , and will be my favoritest Beatle 4-eva!!!!

  • I don't understand how he was so underrated... in my opinion he had the most poetic & sweetest voice of the whole band, every song i hear from george I feel the emotion coming through it, every song he sang had a warmness or sadness about it, its truely amazing & very spiritual.

  • george is not underrated to me. he was extremley talented and was the best out of the four!! R.I.P, ur music still lives on :)

  • Within you without you was a masterpiece. Very underrated song, but very good.

  • the quite beatle

  • I thought Ringo was the most uappriciated beatle :p

  • was never the underrated for me. The man was a genius. Beware of darkness in a trade he mastered. St Georgexx

  • no debate necessary... thank you!

  • R.I.P George

he was and always will be great

  • if you know george's solo carreer songs it would be helpful to make a list

  • GEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOORGEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EL MEJOR BEATLE.......!!!!!!!!!!!! piggies is the song for Orwell's book, Revolution in the farm, don't you think?

  • George is as talented as Paul and John Period.

  • It's all too much !!!!!! one of his greatest songs !! i don't get tired of that one

  • george was my favourite :)

  • the video at 1:12 is Roll Over Beethoven.

  • I don't know how people keep leaving out Handle with Care. The great song he did with the Traveling wilburys.

  • Tkank you George!

  • It's interesting that George's voice sounds like Lenon's.

  • It's all too much!

  • Amish John Lennon 4:18

  • George had some great songs, especially Taxman, Savoy Truffle, It's All Too Much, and Here Comes the Sun. Definitely underrated. Oh yeah, and While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

  • Here comes the sun is the best beatles song imo

  • Happy birthday George!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Where's "Don't Bother Me" ????!

    Epic Vid

  • George is not only the most underrated, but also the best beatle!!

  • i can assure you guys geroge is getting less underrated everyday. in my opinion and im sure a lot of other people think this too that none of the beatles are underrated

  • i think alot of people like his songs but just think john or paul wrote the song they liked. His voice is a mixture of john and pauls voice, so it gets confusing lol

  • You're right, you not the only one who feels that George is not appreciated enough as a musician because I think so too.

  • I think he had the best solo career, well look at it this way, he kept getting better and better whilst John and Paul never repeated the same greatness shown in The Beatles.

  • @TheNicholas0202 no john he kept getting better,he had the best solo carrer from the other beatles

  • george is definately underrated but hes my favorite beatle

  • Dam good work man, some of these songs i didnt even know but are really nice. George is def. un appreciated also as a person, he's a very humble and peaceful man.

  • @AzBboy

I assume you mean "was." :p

  • george is so underrated its unreal

  • awesome...but you forgot one of my favorites...."If I Needed Someone"

  • "Something" was Frank Sinatra's favorite Beatles song.

  • When put together, it sounds amazing!!!

There should be some Harrison's Beatle-era greatest hits.

  • I like the song "All Things Must Pass" and the demo he did in 1969. I wish John and Paul would had taken interest in this tune then. Its like they were trying not to let George really make a song like he wanted to. I wish Capitol would remaster his 1975 solo album "Extra Texture"!

  • Thank you for this nice presentation and selection some of which are George less known songs like "it's all too much" which I found nicely heavy and refreshingly modern now (hear at 6'40").

I agree George is my favorite because he was first of all the Beatle's lead guitar and somehow had all of the pressure of heavy weights from that era with heroes like Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton etc.. and he managed to keep the band on top. But I always suspected a painful refrain from too heavy!

  • Awesome Songs...

  • George and John rocks.

Maccas songs is shit imo. I like Ringo as well. Dispise Mccartney

  • george is the best!

  • I totally agree about George! Nice to see others who feel the same. Great tribute!

  • i was 12 when i saw hard days night in 64 and george was the coolest beatle and ive followed him ever since i thinall things must pass proved to john what an ass he was for letting george have two or so songs on every albm i think he was jealous but george was a very spirituall man and he inspired me to turn to jesus not as god but for the great love he had for mankind and krishna and still get a kick out of sinatra crediting paul and john for something and that song was voted the best

  • 16 songs proving georges tallent, a couple of interesting rare tracks, thanks for those, keep them comming

  • Harii Georgeson FTW!

  • george harrision was one of the most under rated and one of the greatest muscians and song writers

  • George Harrison was a great musician!

  • i hate it how the video clips are not the actual song playing.

  • i like it like that

  • I'm a big George Harrison fan. I think he is appreciated. What he wrote was great, but the amount of great stuff doesn't compare to Paul and John. Really think about it, the amount of McCartney-Lennon songs.

  • it is true but some think that he isn't good because John and Paul were better

  • YEs but the fact being that those were some of the only songs they (Paul and John) allowed him to put on their Albums...

  • He released a triple album after the band broke up and a a part of the songs were songs refused by Paul and John. He wrote a lot more songs that people think, they just weren't released as Beatles songs....

  • you forgot his first one, "don't bother me".

  • the clip from haed days night that was pretty funny i love that scene

  • i couldnt agree more george harrison was the quiet one in the beatles but without him the beatles wouldnt have evolved the way they did he was a key component in the group

  • wow! this is a very compelling argument. "Think for yourself" has always been one of my favorites... George isn't underestimated, he was considered to be the best musician when they started out, and he had the most serious commitment to the band. He had everything to lose and everything to gain (and he gained everything he could)

He was also the best looking :)

  • blue jay way?!

  • In my opinion "I want to tell you" is one of the best songs of the Revolver album and even one of the best songs of The Beatles' entire career.

  • "I want to tell you" was covered by, of all people, Ted Nugent.

  • why the hell isnt Long Long Long on herre

  • true he was quiet and i think thats cool of him not being kinda the jerk

  • Something in my opinion was always the best. Great video!

  • George was always my favorite beatle. I would have never thought of him as the underrated one.

  • George was definately the completely underrated Beatle. And that people sometimes forget his name. I noticed that as I asked when I was in school about people naming all four Beatles. They get John, Paul, & Ringo right but George they forget it seems. Like he wasn't there. John & Paul were the leaders of the Beatles while Ringo and George hung in the background it seems.

  • wha?

but George's solo work is my favourite

  • Great video! :)

  • george is a better singer then george

  • nah, george is better.

    haha

  • huh?

  • Harrison was an amazing talent who, perhaps unfortunately for him, happened to be in the same band as the two greatest songwriters/singers of all time.

  • The Beatles are the best band ever! They were all great!

  • George Harrison is AMAZING!

  • 3:04, and 3:15= Awesome

  • The Beatles greatest period was from '65 onwards, and in that period Harrison may have written less, but the quality of his work was consistently on the same level as Lennon & McCartney, and an integral part of all their albums. Not to mention that the John & Paul domination led to the stockpile of material that wasn't used that became "All Things Must Pass"; which is arguably the greatest solo Beatles work. "33 & 1/3", and "Brainwashed" are amazing too...and others as well. Blessings!!

  • I totally agree, he was completely underrated. Awesome guitarist and better than Lennon[despite what he says] and great voice. If he would have gotten the chance to write more, he would have really been able to contribute more than he already had to the Beatles. His solo career is my favorite as well.

  • I think "It's All Too Much" is a very underrated song. I think that song is great.

  • He was* a great talent.

Nice selection of songs. Other good ones like

Blue Jay Way, Love You To, If I needed someone and Not Guilty - makes it a top 20 list.

(and we haven't even gone to his solo stuff!)

    * well, he still exists doesn't he!

  • i agree, george was amazingly talented and i have no idea why he was underrated by people, even by john and paul. why rate any of them anyway, they are all incredible and each one is a very crucial part of the whole. (and i never understood why they say paul is the 'cute beatle', aren't they all beautiful?) :)

  • Exactly! I don't like it when people say "John WAS the Beatles" (or Paul), all four of the guys were the Beatles! They wouldn't be the Beatles if one was missing. I don't think Ringo gets enough credit either (though he was quite popular here in America!).

  • Great video, I`m a huge fan of George`s but one question...Where did the "You Know What To Do" song come from. I`ve never heard it and I was sure I had all his recordings, both Beatle and solo...Also, thanks for recognizing The Inner Light, one of his best for sure. It was covered well by Jeff Lynne and Anoushka Shankar at the Concert for George. Peace...

  • Anthology 1, released 1994. It was an outtake from With The Beatles (?), I think
