You can get higher population than 500,000 I have gotten nearly 1 Billion by overlapping Residential, Commercial, and Industrial.

You do know you can achieve nearly 1 Million population if you over lap the Residentials, then replace them with Com or Industries, its the most effeiuecent way to build a Megalopolis.

I liked your city layout. Years and years ago, I was taught the "doughnut" method, where you create a 3x3 superblock, Residential or Commerical, and put the prizes in the center. It's nice to see a different building method that succeeds.

whats with your rental prieces or the condos prieces, its there all ok?

are all the zones in your road or rail mounted?

thats the commonest problems in the game...

This game is unrealistic in that regard. You don't need any roads at all, and it's actually advisable to completely avoid roads. Rails do the same thing, and without the pollution or traffic congestion. Sounds full of win to me!

That said, if this were a real city, it would take for effin' EVER to get anywhere (unless you lived near the northern area.

It changes depending on which season you build it in. I think fall/winter = covered, spring/summer = open. Something like that.

You can get either at any time, I find. With the money cheat, you can spam them. They won't always be the same.

I think tapping the button gives you the uncovered while holding gives you the covered. This is what I usually do and I don't think it has ever fail me.

Wow! This brings back a lot of memories.

The SNES cheat, for you quitters, was something like spend all your money first year and then when the auto budget comes up hold down L + R (or just L) put the tax to 20% and everything else down to 0%.

Click OK, or whatever it said, with L + R still held down go back to budget and reset to original figures.

Click OK and then in game play release L + R.

If this works let me know. £45 when released!

I never use cheats to build my cities, it is truly hard for me to get 500,000 people on my SimCity game, my city once made over 450,000 and was still pissed off about it, I will never give up until city has reached over 500,000 I swear!

WHOA a megalopolis with WATER. I'm impressed. The only way I was ever able to get to megalopolis was to either complete all the scenarios and do it in "Freedom" mode or to use a free landfill cheat to cover up the water.  Nicely done...

What map # was this by the way? It looks like it has minimal water.

i tried a bout 50 games to get to 500 thousand. i did once but it was on long enough for the game to tell me i was a megalop. i never got the mario before. i think it was because of my layout. i did squares with police stations and casinos etc. in the middle. i guess it takes up too much space with the rails going in between the doughnuts of buildings. i never used roads either. always the rail system.

Megalopolis (megapolis) is the highest qualification of the game...but if you grow more than 1 310 700 citizens, you roll back to village...

dude ur smog problem is due to the placement of your airport. if you move your airport away from the industrial zones, your smog problem should go away

i figured out a good strategy is to first make the areas 3x3 buildings then make squares of tracks around each one and the outside that make the highways

o.o I used to use that same method (or at least I think... all rails, 6 tile width between rails, rectangular rail layout... not sure if I had the rail rectangles connect only at the edges) but it would always stop before I could even get to 400000... was I supposed to give it a lot more time, or is there something in particular about the structure I'm missing?

Well as you can see, it did take almost 20 years to pass the half million mark. Also, having the map completely covered in parks before I zoned it seemed to make a big impact on the land values. Not sure what else might help other than giving it more time. Do you have good police coverage and spread your gifts out?
