  • Why was a little kid allowed to be a jockey in a horse race?

  • 5:23 or 5:20 pantlegs flying in the wind. me likey!!

  • Best horse movie, ever! I love the sounds of the horses running. Those scenes with him riding on the island, that is what freedom looks like.

  • It is rare to see a film so utterly perfect. This is it!

  • I really think that this is the most beautiful and pure footage of a horse race as far as a race being filmed for a movie goes. There's no distracting music and the pounding hoofs are emphasized. The shots of Alec and the Black during the race mixed with the scene from the beach are truly exquisite.

  • i wonder how many of us completely dropped the buckle on their favorite horse and ran full tilt with no control arms wide open??

  • the most powerful scene in the movie

if this was re-released in theaters, id so be there

theres nothing like it when a horse gives you all its heart and soul and that's what the Black did

    LONG LIVE THE BLACK STALLION!!!

  • ahh stallions, so much fun.always gotta tear each other apart!

  • why was the boy?

  • @cerihuw why was the boy what?

  • Can't talk...bit of a tear...heart is just now getting...back into normal beats...but still can't talk.

  • My favorite scene from the movie! It's so powerful!

  • i miss this movie! its amazing!

  • i have been watch this at school but i have not finshed

  • Never fails to make me tear up. Definitely one of the best movie race sequences ever!! ♥

  • In my opinion, this is the most well-done, realistic horse racing scene in movie history

  • you can really tell they used different horses in this scene... still loved it

  • I can watch this and Secretariat's Belmont Race over and over and over and over.........♥

  • i have grown up with this movie

and its a big part of why i became an equestrian

i LOVE both the movies, all the horses that played in this movie, and of course CassOle, the gorgeous stallion that stole my heart. forever loved! and forever alive in our hearts and on film!!!

  • second time around the backstretch..i love how you can tell the arabian picks up speed just in the deepening of his breathing and the pace in the hoofbeats...gone like the wind

  • haha like watching two highschool jocks boxing

  • Comment Part 2: Alec's father died when the cruise ship he and Alec were on sunk. Riding in a race may be extreme for a kid like this but after surviving what he had been through Alec was no ordinary kid. Jockeys aren't much bigger anyway.

Regarding the issue about the book, this movie is based on novel of the same name "The Black Stallion" written by Walter Farley.

  • Comment Part 1: Actually the character of Alec DID have his mother's permission to ride in the race. After they snuck out to Belmont to show "Jim Neville" how fast The Black could run, Alec tried to tell his Mom that Black was the mystery horse but she didn't believe him until Henry came to talk about allowing Alec to ride and then she believed it. She and Alec talked in his bedroom and she said "Ok Alec.' The movie cuts to the train taking them to Belmont track.

  • I love how its so obviously a different horse in the running scenes (short mane/straight profile)

  • great scene and memory from my childhood! thanks for sharing it.

  • No way in hell would I ever let a kid of mine do something like that. No matter how good a rider he/she was. That kid has some pretty irrasponsible parents. Make matters worse he's not wearing any protection, not even a helmet.

  • @no1horselover

Well, technically he was wearing a helmet, but he took it off during the race. And the kid's so headstrong I think he probably would've found a way to get into the race with or without his parent's permission.

  • @no1horselover If you had bothered to read the books you would know that he got in without his parents permission.

  • @Emura100 oh yeah genius well his parents must notice he's missing where are they then??? and no I dont bother reading the books there are heaps of books called the black stallion and black beauty, stuff if Im gunna waste hours reading them all if there is a movie about it.

  • @no1horselover and one more thing I wasnt talking about the fucking book and movie I was talking about the kid in real life! I think his parents knew he was acting in a bloody movie idiot!

  • Gorgeous, gorgeous movie...I get major chills at around 5:40 when you hear the Black's gait moving faster and faster...

  • anyone know the song name for the race part starting at 5:35 ?

  • @matapan50

Me to, no matter how many times I saw that race, one of the most well-composed horse race in the filmhistory!

For me, it is! The another favorite from the one from Ben Hur! :)

  • 3:37 can you please tell me what the name of the black stunt double horse is? It certainly isn't Cas Olé, it seems to be a thoroughbred racing horse. Thanks much for the info!

  • @shairaptor

    I don't know, but wikpediai answers(:D)!

I find this info in a forum, maybe not correct, but I hope it is:

"Cass Ole was the main horse in the first movie. His double was Fae Jur. There was another horse that did the race scene, and one other (French horses that are white, which were dyed black, that are well known swimmers) to do the swimming scene when they are rescued.

  • @shairaptor

Reportedly, Cass Ole wasn't really thrilled about doing a lot of the water scenes when they are playing in the water, so Fae Jur assisted in several of those.

In the second movie, there were three of them. Cass Ole, Diamond Night, and *El Mokhtar. *El Mokhtar died on the set from severe colic and twisted intestine, and Diamond Night passed away at age 18yr with some people that bought him from the studio.

  • Raj's horse Sagr was basically played by SC Billy Ruben ++ , and if I remember correctly, he had one double for a few pieces of the race scene, but that horse's name was never mentioned."

That was interesting, I don't even know either ...! :)

  • Thanks for the extensive info, Keichama22! :) I also read Wikipedia and a few forums and got some of the info you've written too. :)

So the name(s) of the race double horses are not known? Maybe there is more info about that on the DVD with Behind the Scenes footage? Or on IMDb maybe? Thanks again, maybe we can find out, it's very interesting. :)

  • (continued) maybe there's also info in the credits on the movie itself? Do you have the full movie with credits? Could you check it out maybe? Only if there's time and leisure on your side to do it ^^ Thanks! :)

  • I have the full movie, and I check the ending credits a few minutes ago:

    Additional horses:Junior,Star;Olimpic;Fae-Yur;Rex

But we still don't know which name belongs to which horse !

    Need more research! :)

  • On IMDb(dot)com there is the info:

    Cass-Olé ... The Black Stallion

    Junior... Additional Horse

    Star... Additional Horse

    Fae-Jur... Additional Horse

    Olympic... Additional Horse

    Rex... Additional Horse

But still we don't know which horse belongs to which in the race :)

  • @shairaptor

Sorry but maybe I misunderstood you a little(my english is bad as looks like :P...), so you have an interest the name of the two another horse?

  • Thanks for checking the credits. So it's Junior, Olimpic, Rex for the race I think (Fae Yur was used for the swimming scenes if I remember correctly). Maybe Junior is the white, Olimpic the Chestnut and Rex the black "Mystery Horse" or something like that. We need more research for sure! But nice to know the names of the horses ! :)

  • amazing that little horse was able to make up so much distance.

    thanks for posting.

  • @dragonsofliberty

The black horse is really love to run :), and I love the movements of the camera a lot!

Such an old movie and such a dynamic scenes!

Thanx your comment and for watching!! :)
