I love this look. How would I describe this to my stylist when trying to achieve this look? I want my hair to look as close as possible to this. Thank you!
@MCurbow1987 Hello and thank you for asking! It is my continued goal to not only help Hair Stylists understand HOW to create this look, but to also help Hair Clients understand how to explain it to their Stylist, as well as offer the Stylist color choices and placement options. ... Therefore... please do stay in touch,... There's more to come! ;)
i have bleached the top of my hair i would like it to look more natural
so i want to put a darker blonde low lights , i was reading your other posts and you said to use gold now should i fill it with a gold then apply a darker blonde or should i just add it to the color please respond
@thebossbitchdiva Oh my... My apologies... after filtering through over 4k emails... I am finally responding to comments from months ago... You add the gold to the Neutral based color and I suggest you use a 10 volume peroxide and allow it to stay on the hair in the foils for 45 minutes with low heat (if any). :)
@jessicataterhater Hello! and thank you for asking about the hair color formulas used to create this high contrast hair color combination! ... I am more than happy to assist you! so much so that all I have been doing is making my helping others like yourself POSSIBLE on a wider broader scale! ... So... please, if I may ask, find me on fb... so you can keep up with the personal assistance and training I am providing for fellow Cosmetologists / Hair Stylists / Hair Colorists ! Sharon Sovinski
i want to to sewn in hair extensions on my hair soo bad, but i can't find a good hair salon near where i live in ma, but do you know how much it would possibly be to get it done?
i have bleached hair im a level 11 with 2 ince regrowth whics is a shade prob a 5 how can i get this look i need help noone knows what to do for my hair im tired of this bleached out look
@angelarock29 You will need to retouch your roots to blonde at your part, then apply Level 6 with Gold to a horseshoe section around the part. And then under that horseshoe, you apply Level 3 gold with Level 3 N. For the colors I would suggest a 10 volume since you are coloring over Level 11. GOLD is needed to prevent gray/ash tones from appearing. :-)
@MyBellaColorStudio however hair being done in this style was largely phased out towards the end of 2003 and is now widely considered tacky, dated, and trashy
@SupTJay ... True enough indeed... yet, this Client, who asked her face not to be shown... deals mainly within the Music Industry amongst the leaders from years ago... and so, this having been her staple look for many years... she always honors me that it never breaks off. :) ... She even brought me a candle once... when the top reached the bottom length after another Stylist had burnt her ends off! ... So.. Here's to keeping alive ALL STYLES OF HAIR! :)
@Judahtx what does zig zag sub sections mean? like if you do a zig zag where do u apply the colors? i have extremely blonde hair and i want to add lowlights with brown and gold but what part of the zig zag would i apply it to? do u get me? i hope u understood my question..hehe
@THEREALBARBIE89 depending on the look your going for ZIG ZAGS can be utilized in various ways. You can take your zig zags and just like a textured weave slice the points out and apply color/bleach making sure to apply from mid strand down and feather up. First think about what you want to achieve as far as your finished look and go for it! remember the bigger the zig the more of a placement look you will end up with. and put them in at a diagonal if you dont want them to be too strong.
@THEREALBARBIE89 Thank you for asking... and my apologies for just getting back to you. ... I have detailed descriptions concerning how to achieve this look. I ask you to please find me on fb if you are still interested. .. I hope you are. :) Sincerely, Sharon Sovinski
I love this look! I'm in the military and getting ready to go on a deployment and I was just wondering if you can achieve the "blended" looking highlights with a highlighting cap?? Also, can I have your e-mail address?? I would like to know what brand of products you used (if you don't mind telling me in the e-mail) Thank you =)
@jessicataterhater This hair color has three colors. One plaaced at the nape to the bottom of the crown and from the sides up to where the sides of the head roll. And then a smaller section above that like a U shape that goes around the part area. The part is the lightest. The 2 colors used are Level 3, Level 6 and Level 10. A cap won't get this look. But hair color application for the level 3 and 6, and then foil for the lightest. ...You can write me here via youtube. :-)
@MyBellaColorStudio Thanks so much for the response! What volume developer did you use? And what is like a 10N? Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions
@jessicataterhater I use a 8N + 9G because her roots have some gray in them... but if the hair regrowth is darker... then a 9N would work if it can lift it up with 20/30 volume. (my apologies for just getting back to you... I've been nonstop with production stuff!!!!) Hope you are well! :)
@P0ckyface Lowlights usually refer to a color being placed into the foil (not bleach) and that color is usually darker than the existing hair color. BUT some refer to lowlights as ANY color used in the foils. So, yes, you can add lowlights to dark brown hair. Darker than dark brown... or lighter... Which are you looking for? To go lighter? Or darker than your dark brown hair?
@MyBellaColorStudio First, thank you so much for responding. It really means a lot. And yes, I want to go a bit darker. I'm just not sure what would be suitable and I don't want a drastic change in my hair colour.
@P0ckyface I would simply ask your Colorist to place darker lowlights into your hair so that you can have the look of darker hair without a one color process commitment. You can have your Colorist add several different colors of lowlights. I recommend you find a picture of the hair color you love and show it to your Colorist. Have fun! And, Happy Holidays to you! :-)
@KayBellen Thank you for writing. As hair is lightened, no matter the ethnicity of the hair... Hair always goes through the 7 stages of lightening. One of these stages is Rusty Orange. In order to get beyond the orange, the hair must be lightened more. If the product used to lighten is not strong enough then the hair will not lighten enough. I would suggest a gentle bleach to get to the paler blonde shades. Feel free to write me for more precise instructions that you can give to your Stylist. :)
there are 10 levels 1 being black and 10 being palest blonde. there are underlying pigments for each level and the most levels you can lift in one go without completely frying the hair and i am talking about resistant hair is 4-5 levels using a 40vol activato. Wella and Goldwell are by far the best brands. I hope this helps. 1=DRK RED 2=Red 3=RED ORANGE 4=ORANGE RED5=ORANGE 6=ORANGE YELLOW 7=YELLOW ORANGE 8=YELLOW 9=PALEYELLOW10PALEST YELLOW dont for get you can tone out any yellow tones withppl
@aspire4more Using full head weave extensions would work so long as the top is lighter and long enough. If you need the color descriptions for the extensions please let me know what the current hair colors and lengths are and I will help you. :-)
my wife's hair was prematurely grey top and front with dark brown salt and pepper in the back so this effect was achived at home.with little grow out problems, redye the roots every 3 1/2 to 4 months, thx for the idea ,beautiful results
@claymoremacm Fantastic idea! I bet the overlay of the blonde must look fabulous on the natural greys. Thank you for sharing! :-) Happy to inspire. Keep up the creativity!! :-)
@TheCheerbuds102 The price all depends on what the existing color(s) are in the hair and whether or not the hair has been previously colored. Placing in new hair colors to achieve a specific look can be done on previously colored hair or natural hair color. The average price for this look starts at $150 and goes up from there depending on the existing colors/highlights. Maintenance is more affordable after the desired color has been achieved.
@caliandbubble I recommend that you show this result video to your Hair Colorist. There are three layers of colors... the top two colors are cascading down over the darker nape and sides. The length is one length, so layers will appear differently. Please ask your Colorist to watch it, and if there are any questions, please feel free to ask. :-)
@4368jkoch The hardest part of creating this high contrast 3 color hair color at home would be getting the top section light enough. If the hair is already dark blonde, this would be most ideal to begin with because only the top layer would need to be lightened, and the middle and bottom colored. If the hair is darker, then the top two sections would have to be prelightened. I'm all for hair coloring at home so long as there is a plan of action that will get the results!! :-)
@DelicateMinds Thank you for writing. I called this High Contrast because it uses 3 colors - from medium brown to light brown to blonde. You can describe it as the blonde cascading over the light brown and the light brown cascading over the medium brown. Or simply - Cascading hair color? It doesn't take much time because there are only 3 colors used. Mocha, and light amber and golden blonde would work well too! Almost any tones will work so long as they are in the same family.
Yes!! Finally what I been looking for I found the perfect way to die my hair......the first time I ever die my hair I was 17(I just turn 20) after that I died my hair like a mad women...but I think I finally found something I can stick too thanks=)......but the only sad thing is that my beautiful long thick hair turn thin short and frizzy and I don't think it ever be the same:(....But I lovee That look!
@PRINCESSISABELLA1990 So happy you love this look you have wanted! I bet you will look great with it! Just make certain that the Colorist knows what she/he is doing so you don't end up with thin, short, frizzy hair again!!
I had a question i have black hair and want some blonde highlights is it possible to do it but i want a like a beige color of blonde highlights. also want them to be chunky too but im not sure how to section them or how to start them? also i recently bought some black extentions would they still blend in with my highlights or it cant be possible im not sure what to do at this time any suggestions would be very greatful thanks:)
@VERO1285 The foils to lighten your hair to light blonde need to be placed back to back to back to get the chunkier look. Putting all the hair into one foil will not allow your hair to lift evenly since it is black. The chunks can be placed so that the extensions still work. A toner may be needed to get the Beige you want once the hair is lightened/chunked. Feel free to ask me more questions. I am happy to assist. :-)
thank you; do you have a video i can see how it can be done with chunky highlights to have an idea how to start the porocess thank you soo much for your help:)
@VERO1285 Yes, I have the original My Bella Color - Panels & Chnks DVD for sale. This DVD covers a long hair chunkier placed multi-color custom foiling application on long hair. One model and the video is about 1 hour long. I show the foiling, and also the colors used, as well as tell stories along the way. It's a fun DVD that helps launch hair coloring careers. I highly recommend it if you want to do original foiling work. Look us up via our website. My Bella Color Studio
@MyBellaColorStudio thank you; do you have a video i can see how it can be done with chunky highlights to have an idea how to start the porocess thank you soo much for your help:)
Hello. I was wondering for a red head ( not orange, more like a penny color so darker) how would I get my hair to go blonde without turning orange or pink? I would like to stay away from bleaching too. Please and thanks!
@MakeupBySamiD Thank you for writing. If you hair has been previously colored then lighter hair color will not lighten the pigments to blonde. Therefore, you have to have the color removed before placing in lighter color. The color removal process can include a mild bleach. If it is natural, then lighter blonde color may lighten it light enough, but it may need more than one application to lighten it. Hope this helps. :-)
I was wondering if it's normal with peekaboo highlights not to take the color all the way up to the roots? I just got my hair done with peekaboos and the stylist didn't take the color all the way up the hair shaft?
@dskej Yes. This is why they are called Peekaboo highlights - they peek out from within the hair... and so yes, at times the hair is not lightened near the scalp as much as it is on the ends. However, another color can be blended out from the scalp and blend into the lighter ends. And sometimes, with Peekaboo highlights the highlights go all the way to the scalp but are not visible (as noticeable) near the part or around the face. This is an excellent point to clarify. Thank you for writing. :-)
I really want my hair color like this!! How do I get it like this? two years ago my hair was my natural color dirty blonde, and now it's dark brown but i want it like this, without damaging my hair,, :) please help!
@peacelovechey The top of the hair needs to be heavily highlighted... and then the roll section (the area under the sides of the part and back of the top part area) need to be lightened and then colored to a Light Brown. The dark brown can stay underneath. If you need additional assistance let me know. Thank you for writing. :-)
@TalithaHugsAndKisses Sorry for the delay... I've been nonstop behind the hair chair. :-) Okay... yes, you need to have your hair prelightened first. If you need instructions on how your Stylist can safely remove hair color pigment, please let me know and I can arrange to send you the instructions via email.
i have dark almost a chocolate brown hair with a little tiny tiny tinge of red to it when it's in the sun light ,... my natural hair is dirty blonde , and i wanna go back to that but maybe a little light , i have brown eyes and brown eye brows , im just nervouse it wont look good cuz i have dark eyes and eye brows
@TalithaHugsAndKisses I beleive you can go back to your natural hair color (Dirty Blonde). That is what you are suggesting correct? If I am correct, let me know... and I will help advise you on what you will need to have your Stylist/Colorist do for you to get you from dark brown back to Dirty Blonde without damaging your hair.
The underneath is her natural level 3 medium brown. The good thing about this look is that the shade of brown underneath can be lighter, or even darker, depending on the desired end result. Have fun creating the look you love! :-)
Hello there. Since your hair is dirty blonde, then the lightest top section would have to be redone about every 4 - 6 weeks depending on how much root is too much root for you. I think it would be great for you. Let me know how it comes out.
Hi I really want to get this look! I have a dark brown coffee color, but I have been dying my hair jet black for the past 5 years. In a desperate attempt to take out the black I bleached my hair and it's a light orange brown color now. Will my sylist still be able to pull of this 3 color contrast look?
Hi there. Yes. Just keep having your Stylist lighten the top section - up to palest blonde. And the middle section can be colored a nice warm light brown/dark blonde. One more removal for the brass, and one to two on the top... and then color the middle to tone it to nice dark blonde or light brown. Then color underneath level 3 until black is out.
Hi there, I think you are asking about the extensions - correct? Sorry for the delay... please go to the video page on the hair extensions and write to BusyLittleQueen - that is Erik, the one who does the extensions. :-)
I was thinking of dieing my hair those exact color, but i have brown eyes, and i have already died my hair dark red, almost burgandy.... its very deep...will it work with my eyes?
i have brown hair (but not too dark), and I want to lighten my look. I was thinking of getting different colored blonde highlights, to make it look more natural.
More color placed into the hair always helps it look more natural so long as the color combination stays within the same color family. I suggest you look through magazines and find the perfect color combo... and then ask your Stylist to do similar colors and placement. It is the placement and the colors that achieves the end results. The two go hand in hand. :-)
Your dark hair can be lightened and colored to achieve the colors you desire. It is true you may need guidance... and I can help you. Please write me a message to my IN box, and describe your existing color, and what you want to achieve. I'll help formulate colors and give you instructions for your Stylist. :-) Thank you for writing.
I am not sure why the oil in your hair would increase after having it colored. Perhaps you are shampooing too often? I've seen hair become less oily when the number of weekly shampoos descreases. It's really hard to say without knowing your hair type, color used, and daily routines for shampooing, conditiioning, styling product, etc.
Wow the end result is super. What can i tell any stylist so i can get a result like this. I am kid of scared because i've always had my hair turn out really bad like two color tones, so is kind of hard to think my hair can look like that , hopelly you can tell me what i can tell a hair stylist. Thank you
I can send you a document that helps your Colorist better understand how to achieve this look. Can you please write me an email here with your email, so i can send it to you please? Thank you. Sincerely, Sharon Sovinski
i wanna make my hair like this but how do i tell the hair salon people to do it and how did u do it also how did u do the blonde is there more of a blonde than the other thanks by the way great job amazing i love it
i want to do my hair like this so how would i tell the hair salon people how to do it and it's ssssssssooooooooooo cute also how did you put the different blondes in like which blonde had more of it thank you so much
I absolutly love this hair :) Mine is the same colour as the dark brown & Ive been looking for a while for what shade of blonde to get. I want my hair just like this :D Thanks! Ive finally found my new hair :)
If your Colorist knows what he or she is doing then your new hair color should not result in orange. Any hair color can be lightened safely and result in the correct color so long as the Colorist understands how to lighten hair and tone it at the same time. :-)

VERO1285 1 year ago
@VERO1285 Yes, I have the original My Bella Color - Panels & Chnks DVD for sale. This DVD covers a long hair chunkier placed multi-color custom foiling application on long hair. One model and the video is about 1 hour long. I show the foiling, and also the colors used, as well as tell stories along the way. It's a fun DVD that helps launch hair coloring careers. I highly recommend it if you want to do original foiling work. Look us up via our website. My Bella Color Studio

Hello. I was wondering for a red head ( not orange, more like a penny color so darker) how would I get my hair to go blonde without turning orange or pink? I would like to stay away from bleaching too. Please and thanks!
MakeupBySamiD 1 year ago
@MakeupBySamiD Thank you for writing. If you hair has been previously colored then lighter hair color will not lighten the pigments to blonde. Therefore, you have to have the color removed before placing in lighter color. The color removal process can include a mild bleach. If it is natural, then lighter blonde color may lighten it light enough, but it may need more than one application to lighten it. Hope this helps. :-)

I'm soooo getting this done once my hair gets longer!

I was wondering if it's normal with peekaboo highlights not to take the color all the way up to the roots? I just got my hair done with peekaboos and the stylist didn't take the color all the way up the hair shaft?
dskej 1 year ago

How do I get it like this? two years ago my hair was my natural color dirty blonde, and now it's dark brown but i want it like this, without damaging my hair,, :) please help!
peacelovechey 1 year ago
@peacelovechey The top of the hair needs to be heavily highlighted... and then the roll section (the area under the sides of the part and back of the top part area) need to be lightened and then colored to a Light Brown. The dark brown can stay underneath. If you need additional assistance let me know. Thank you for writing. :-)

yes that ismy natural color.
TalithaHugsAndKisses 1 year ago

TalithaHugsAndKisses 1 year ago
@TalithaHugsAndKisses I beleive you can go back to your natural hair color (Dirty Blonde). That is what you are suggesting correct? If I am correct, let me know... and I will help advise you on what you will need to have your Stylist/Colorist do for you to get you from dark brown back to Dirty Blonde without damaging your hair.

IF underneath the blonde hair it was brown it would have been more beatiful
Melisthebest1000 1 year ago
The underneath is her natural level 3 medium brown. The good thing about this look is that the shade of brown underneath can be lighter, or even darker, depending on the desired end result. Have fun creating the look you love! :-)

hi, i really like this look.
i have about dirty blonde hair and my hair is naturally dark underneath. how long would this last if i got this?
hunter11497 1 year ago
Hello there. Since your hair is dirty blonde, then the lightest top section would have to be redone about every 4 - 6 weeks depending on how much root is too much root for you. I think it would be great for you. Let me know how it comes out.

Hi I really want to get this look! I have a dark brown coffee color, but I have been dying my hair jet black for the past 5 years. In a desperate attempt to take out the black I bleached my hair and it's a light orange brown color now. Will my sylist still be able to pull of this 3 color contrast look?
Thanks jenn
black2006g35 1 year ago
Hi there.

I was thinking of dieing my hair those exact color, but i have brown eyes, and i have already died my hair dark red, almost burgandy.... its very deep...will it work with my eyes?
CaitGoBAM 2 years ago
Yes, this color combo will work with dark eyes. But you'll have to have the red removed prior to receiving this look from your Stylist/Colorist.

Wow I love how it turns out in the end!
i have brown hair (but not too dark), and I want to lighten my look. I was thinking of getting different colored blonde highlights, to make it look more natural.
How should i do it ? thank you :)
ilovemoshpit 2 years ago
More color placed into the hair always helps it look more natural so long as the color combination stays within the same color family. I suggest you look through magazines and find the perfect color combo... and then ask your Stylist to do similar colors and placement. It is the placement and the colors that achieves the end results. The two go hand in hand. :-)

Every time i dye my hair where ever i dye it it gets oily is there a way i can stop that????? reply pleasee!!
Chezzykaityberrybecx 2 years ago
I am not sure why the oil in your hair would increase after having it colored. Perhaps you are shampooing too often? I've seen hair become less oily when the number of weekly shampoos descreases. It's really hard to say without knowing your hair type, color used, and daily routines for shampooing, conditiioning, styling product, etc.

Wow the end result is super. What can i tell any stylist so i can get a result like this. I am kid of scared because i've always had my hair turn out really bad like two color tones, so is kind of hard to think my hair can look like that , hopelly you can tell me what i can tell a hair stylist. Thank you

Naturally dark brown... with some sparkles (aka gray hairs).
MyBellaColorStudio 2 years ago
What colour was her hair naturally??
WhatevaULike 2 years ago
If your Colorist knows what he or she is doing then your new hair color should not result in orange. Any hair color can be lightened safely and result in the correct color so long as the Colorist understands how to lighten hair and tone it at the same time. :-)
