i see the comments on the water eating the fins and things is that what the filter is for if so i wonder is there a way to run it from rain barrels? and are you really satisfied with the thing?
mineral content of water will eat up the aluminum/copper condensor fins very quickly. That unit is a Trane/Am Standard and has a spline coil, but the same thing will happen. Nice concept, bad idea.
Update: The filter exploded on mine and after researching the fin issue in the comments below I stopped using the unit.

This is a really bad idea as this is what is going to happen
• the water chemistry is going to EAT the aluminum coils of your a/c unit
• you’re a/c units warranty will be voided straight away
I will stop there but there are so many reasons not to do this, it is simply silly
Best case:
This works perfectly for 2 years
Costs you $100
Saves you $50 near term
Resulting in an entire system replacement, cost $5000
Folks please do not do this

@billcv80 Check the website. Water treatment is provided with the system. Very impressive for such an affordable system.
