INTERNATIONAL BRIGADES BRISTOL DOCKS UNION !!! my grandad went and stood toe to toe with his comrades in spain !! then fought the nazis in ww2 then came home raised a family and was a unoion man till the day he died not like the cunts now only on for lining there pockets !! the true socialists are looking down on you !! new labour i shit it torys with another name !! i will keeep the faith gramps thinking you gramps !!
Stunning song with words that mean a great deal no matter your country or government.
Billy Bragg was one of the founders of the Red Wedge when Labour where still in the wilderness, Blair had absolute zero relevance when this was written and as as much to do with the politics of Blair and his cronies as Take That do.
Billy Bragg is a true socialist that spoke for the people and wrote songs about the people.
I don't know 'cos I'm not German, but I imagine this song sounds different if you listen from the point-of-view of a German that experienced the 1920s/30s.
Strange really... Thatchers politics was essentially society is based upon individualism and self responsibility, but the people she crushed and the communities she trampled on never asked for more than being individuals and being able to pay their way. The miners, the dockers, the steel workers, all of them were individuals who sought and lived by their own individual responsibility to themselves and their families.
If only when Thatcher dies she could take her legacy with her. So many of us see and suffer that legacy each day, yet attribute it as the fault of other working class men and women around us.
Yorkshire aswell! We had 500+ mines, now we have 3, my grandad worked on the shipyards in Sunderland, now we don't have those either. I'm having my own party in a building named after John Boyd-Orr, the man that gave us school milk, the same milk thatcher stole!
you are losing faith my friend. support the cwu . 'Wer'e avin a party, when Thatcher dies.....Musical chairs, when Thatcher dies....it could go on that long . Bitch
@Liam5LCM If we all live that long - it will probably need a stake through the heart (and anyway, wasn't she already embalmed sometime in the late 70's)?

@glennmac88 you are so right. i see the roots of so much disharmony and poverty of hope in the thatcher years. well said my friend.
