Your prima needs to have its tip pointed at your target rather than your foot, the seconde is too high, your quarte is too much to the center, your quinte is supposed to be parallel to the floor, the sixte is far too much to the left, it is supposed to be where you put your quarte, your septime is too high, same for your octave
@ProyectMooneJazzers what exactly do you use, foil or sabre? your hands movements are huge, i thought that it was because you were trying to emphasized it or lack of space or you in a camera. i was in foil and had 4678 parries, you need to use minimum movements and moving you wrist is enough (sometimes fingers too)
@ProyectMooneJazzers sad that i actually quit fencing. my coach never taught me 1 2 3 5 and 7. he focused more on 4678. 1 and 2 looks interesting enough that i often accidentally do it w/ my reflexes (but i tried stop it). btw he said that originally in the past it was 16 parries including the back and i do find some flaws in your parries
@SceeAnno you could if the flick was strong enough to displace the line of the attack. A parry only counts if it actually PARRIES the attack. There are of course flick parries, but you'd have to be a competent fencer to use them effectively.
@flaze3 what i meant by thinking two steps ahead is like, when your playing chess. its an abstract way of putting it. but i might help you understand what i mean :P
@flaze3 Alfred Hutton was a Victorian Era fencer and military man. He wrote a book called "Cold Steel", which I highly recommend to anyone interested in the subject of fencing as a martial art. In his book, he clearly documents the saber fencing techniques of his school, among other stuff (quarterstaff, dagger, etc.). He also wrote "Old Swordplay", which documents various styles of swordplay that were already extinct by his day.
@flaze3 That may be the case nowadays, but in his day, Saber and Smallsword (origin of foil) had similar parries. They were even akin to the Scottish Baskethilt Broadsword. Almost identical in fact.
I teach foil fencing in the states, and was very surprised when I searched for parries in fencing. You and only one other actually went over the 8 positions. Thank you
@flaze3 I couldn't agree more! Would love to see more of your fencing when you get to recording more. how about Flaze's Fencing Tutuorial? has a nice ring to it !
What? Your perries are way to large for foil. I always learned that it was OK to be stabed and all you needed to do was tap the blade and stab them back. The way you were fencing it looked like right of way ment nothing. Then agian, alot of people I know fence like that. Whatever.
sorry dude... it was just for fun. u cd watch it big screen, but if u really want to know the eight parries, go to google, and type in 'eight fencing parries' and u should find a decent diagram detailing them.
You can't count mate, thats 7 parries.

@ProyectMooneJazzers I'm terribly sorry. Thanks for the feedback.

@ProyectMooneJazzers
I am just a beginner but I saw my master do the 8 yesterday and so I know the theory, not the actual thing...
Thank you. Oh and try to put some more light to it, behind you we have a somewhat hard time seeing the fine details...

@jumba4u I've already seen it, thanks. It has little to do with fencing parries.

mkai, how much does a foil cost :O?
SceeAnno 7 months ago
@SceeAnno it depends. You can check prices out on the LeonPaul website though:

why can't you just flick the attack away and counter it? [curious, i'm thinking about taking this sport up]

@flaze3 ah, it seems like a sport that you have to be two steps ahead of your opponent with every move they make =o

@SceeAnno You certainly have to be awake :-) I imagine having Jedi abilities would help, though, yes.

WOW.....that is WAY different than Alfred Hutton's guards.
I think I'll stick with Alfred Hutton!!!

@jacobbenmichael well if he was an old-style saber fencer, that would explain the difference! In any case saber parries are different from foil.

The parries are way too big. The lighting could be better too.

@SamStuart07 That`s because it`s a demonstration. I`m sorry about the lighting.

I like this video, though you may want to choose slightly better lighting conditions. Good job overall, you should make more about fencing!

Ok,
1) It was a demo: I overemphasized the extent of ACTUAL movement; and
2) Though I agree with you that, in general, foil parries are usually v. slight, they need not always be. E.g. Seeding parries? Prime?
In practice, I don't think 'parry quart now', but deflect the opponent's blade intuitively and look for a riposte.
The 'eight parries' are used more as a training exercise to accustom yourself with attacks/parries/counters in different lines.
