  • BRAVOOOO

  • What's she playing at 1:00?

  • 57 dudes around there have a really bad taste

  • can't wait to play bach,, love violin music

  • Stupid video title. Bach Concertos? What, all of them in 6:35?

  • she is hot.

  • Elegance, pure simple elegance

  • her pictures does not mean anything to me, but when she starts to play with this confidence I feel butterflies in my stomach.

  • Hilary is simply the most amazing violinist ever. She is seemingly incapable of playing out of tune. Her Tchaikovsky concerto recorded with the Royal Liverpool orchestra, just makes me cry, it's just so beautiful.

  • Definitely a great musician. Her intonation is so precise that it's enjoyable just to listen to her for pitch control alone. When she plays two strings at once her pitch precision is gorgeous. Listen to her play Paganini double harmonics vs Perlman, Rabin, or Schaham. She even plays the harmonics sweetly and they sound like the violin is whistling. I've yet to hear such intonation precision in others.

It's no surprise to me that she has won Grammy's.

  • @robertslistening You're absolutely right. Further than that, she has already matured these years to the level that it's also enjoyable just to listen to her phrasing alone.

  • this is AMAZING!!!

  • Superb.............xxx

  • When I hear words like "properly matured" and "old soul" used on people as lovely as Hilary Hahn, I think it's a great insult, them sort of wanting to take her as one of their own, thinking that where they belong is so special.

  • 3:59 That's what George Leonard would call the facial expression of Mastery

  • What is the name of the songs?

    Please, thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • Auf dieses Video antworten... Bach's a-minor violin concerto is the first one.

  • let me say that her face is something between the face of an angel and a face of a demon. anyway incredible, magic, special and awesome, she and her violin.

  • Why is she so cool, showing no emotions, like some kind of violin robot?

Music is actualy not the kind of sport, is it?

Does she feel something while playing that gorgeous music or is that just a perfectly trained athlete?

  • @angelishify If you have ever played the violin seriously, you would have to know that it is a very demanding instrument. Only the most disciplined and hardened personality can bring music out this piece of wood and four slender strings. You will see this kind of discipline, what some call "coldness" in many great violinists - Heifetz comes to mind. Just close your eyes and listen to the music - there is no coldness there at all, but that beauty comes only at the price of unflinching dedication.

  • @cajetanus Great comment, actually quite inspiring.

  • 너무 좋아요.

  • The journey of a prodigy can be the Everest of human achievement. You still have to climb the mountain and deal with the pain of the discipline. In the English dictionary, 'blister' comes before 'bravo'.

God has blessed Hahn like a pitcher in the perpetual 8th inning of a no-hitter.

    May it be so.

  • shes flying on the a minor

  • Frost, the record producer here, errs greatly in saying, at 2:40

"The challenge is that you're going to be compared to the great violinists of this century who have recorded Bach."

Surely the "challenge", as in all musical performance, is to be faithful to the intentions of the composer. Bach certainly did not intend the outer movements to be taken at the blurring, undanceable (despite the claim at 4:52), actually nerve-wracking, speeds at which Hahn plays them. (c/f Oistrakh, again).

  • Nice, cool, racy, technically very competent, lady-like playing. But only that. Certainly not great, ie profoundly moving, playing such as David Oistrakh's in his vastly superior 1962 performance of this work with Colin Davis at QE Hall, London.

  • I am a fan of music in general I don't say one genre is better then the others. I prefer classical melodies to the more modern bass and sound boards, but did you know most of the famous pop artists are classically trained to start with...Lady Gaga-piano/vocals Beyonce-Opera/Chours, Tatoo-Opera/Violin/Piano. There are many of them, music is something to be enjoyed whether it is Motzart, Britteny Spears, or Nightwish. What makes music special is that there is no right or wrong way, just listen

  • I gave her the bouquet once after a concert. Fell in love with her right away...what a great woman!

  • what a beautiful talent!!!!!

  • wonderful................

  • Wowww!!!

  • Miss Hillary kicks ass when it comes to playing Bach !!!!

  • Gee.. i would not wanna be a classical artist

Keeping a straight face playing Bach is just too hard.

  • does anyone else see the complete hate for humanity in her eyes? :S hope its just her concentration face...

  • she's playing like an angel

  • Me encanta la musica de violin!!!!!!, y mas cuando es ejecutada por una solista con tanta amplitud de conocimientos, es hermoso!!!! gracias Hilary.

  • her intonation is always so perfect. she doesnt over embellish its wonderful

  • love the sounds , amazing :D

  • love it so much

  • This is amazing music. I'm playing this song right now, and I feel downright horrible when I hear her play it so quickly and elegantly. It is pretty cool to be able to mime the fingerings along with her as she plays, though. This is a wonderful piece of music and I'm glad I have the opportunity to learn it, even if I can't play it as well as her.

  • @ProcessingOf no one can, that's why she's famous right?

  • @pwnmonkeyisreal That's a very good point!

  • A wonderful person who takes time to meet and autograph for all her fans after every performance. Ignore the negative comments here posted by delinquents. Go see Hilary yourself and experience the performance of a lifetime.

  • Don't Be Fooled. She's a bitch in person. We lined up to have an autograph and she didn't even care about her fans. get a life

  • Don't Be Fooled. She's a bitch in person.

  • she's actually a bitch in person. we went to a concert and lined up to have autograph and she didn't care at all about her fans

  • Beautiful young lady, in music!

  • @repn87 @repn87 Smoking weed might - but if you vape or eat. No. No way. Infact I've a scientific study right in front of me that shows that marijuana actually promotes neurogenesis (brain cell growth if you don't know what that means) that has been reproduced and verified in 3 international medical schools (U of Maryland, U of Saskatoon, U of Xi'an).

    (replace commas with .)

    ,jci,org/articles/view/25509/version/1

Okay now link me your study proving it does. Can't be from the DEA/gov.

  • I love the little dance she does at 2:24!

  • fit as a fiddle! ha very sharp

  • superb

  • Beautiful

  • I have this CD :D

  • She is so awesome !!

  • mui secaaaa! *o* algun dia tocare asi de bkn!

  • i bet she is a total freak in bed

  • She looks quite angry doesnt she?

  • @tbm25 yes she does jeje

  • She plays so insanely beautifully, not just musically, but aesthetically as well.

  • @tomo1tanker Yes, I agree. That is the difference between the greatest violinists versus those who are comparatively merely capable of all the technical "virtuosities." In fact, to me, to hear any such exceptional violinist---live---play in largo reveals in more pointedly and ever so subtlely how: "beyond" they are. (To me, the greatest ones can't be "compared," but in being "different," and variously capable of most presenting this or that composer or work.[ It is the same with opera voices].)

  • ella es hermosa :)

  • OMG she plays awesome!!

  • ¡Grandioso Bach!

  • that conductor is a fag

  • @jorgeoscar1000 ass hole

  • @jorgeoscar1000

Of course, he's a serious faggot, but so what?

  • @jorgeoscar1000 So are you.

  • Whats the name of the song in the beginning

  • its a blessing to hear this.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • what is the piece she is playing at the very end? i love it

  • So great, you're my inspiration

  • I'm a lucky person...

I've missed Enescu (bad0 but got the live on Menuhin's (good) days and got to listen Hilary starting her career (great!).

    Can't ask for more...

  • i wish Hilary hahn could be my teacher.. :(

  • she has been playing these same concertos since she was 8. lol

  • she's so gracious

  • OMG!!! i love her!!!

  • Everything is wonderful this music is very nice to take you to another world, and thanks for the reluctant hilary hahn

  • how old is she in this video??? she looks soo young...

  • omg my dad is the back ground cellist the guy right behind the conductor at 4:03 he has the gray hair

  • yes it sounds good

  • humanity is entirely natural=supernatural

Older and more uncorrupted than politicians or most people (soul, from Sirius constellation). She has a supernatural quality. Look at these eyes at any time. This could subjectively prove god, angels, demons, aliens, Ancients of Days. "So, it's all very familiar." "He has... a lot of experience." She speaks on many levels at the same time in those quotes. She knows all of this on a good day. A scalar wave antenna conducting Bach.

  • wow...you try to make an intelligent point with unintelligible sentences, good job!

  • ein wenig zu rasch

  • IAM TRES INTERIM RATIONES PONERE VT SEPTEM SEPTEM SEPTEM HABEMVS QVINQVE STELLARVM RATIONES!!!

    Visne id facere?!

    Illum non dubito!

  • I hate to be that person that says stuff like this but I think no one beats hahns Bach, she makes me feel like Iam in a cofffe shop, I think she some how brings a modern approach to Bach thats refreshing!

  • Modern can be good- heard also an eastrern europe violinist who put small colorations to passages of the same piece of Bach, yet love Itzhak Perlman's equibristc pathos and 'painting with the big brush' too! Maybe Hahn's modernism is a strive for new purity with Bach? I like ...

  • @nice, btw she's got good back up as well!

  • @wp and DSS: I really understand your points of view, BUT i do not agree with you; I enjoy Hahn BECAUSE she plays Bach's complex music with simplicity- every note is destinct, seperated and perceptable, which to me brings both ease of listening and joy of the Bach/baroque 'dance-factor'- not too much staccato or too little vibrato.. not too much Hahn, too little Bach. But thats just me... Fortunately Bach is too strong to be ruined ;o)

  • 1 bach isnt complex, its very simple 2 baroque music is generally devoid of vibrato, vibrato for the most part became popular with silent films accompinaned with music (or so say my violin teacher, but what does he know yknow?)

  • this is so borring, this girl play everythings same style, very good tecnic but it doen´t transmit or send any kind of message

  • @willypollas Yes, it's so monotonous...

  • @willypollas what did you expected? remixed classical songs? violin-rock? lyrics?

  • stop trying to wriggle in larger words like transmit and being redundent in their usage...its very annoying

  • I recomend to buy the whole album you see at the end, it is in my opinion extraordinary. You will find all the pieces you heard on it. I Love her interpretation! It shows up straight away on iTunes. The name of the second piece with the cello starting is Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, BWV 1041: II. Andante. And, she is hot!

  • Exactly, for me, it was like learning the a minor again, almost ten years after studying this violin concert, specially the third movement...

  • Hello I would like the know the name of the piece of the second movement beautiful

  • I own this piece, it is my favorite I was just listening to it on my i pod beautiful, impeccable.

  • This looks like it was filmed at the Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles. When was this filmed?

  • what is the name of the song she is playing at the beginning?

  • It's the 3rd movement of the a minor concerto.

It's only called a song if it is sung. This is a piece.

  • whats the name of the last part of bach concerto I have been looking for that for a while THX a lot from 5:05

  • @tednudgee Bach Violin Concerto in A minor (BWV 1041) 3rd movement

  • Smoking Weed????? hahahaha what they were thinking of?? A human being does not any weed or whatever, maybe just a sort of tea, coca tea, manzanilla, anis, una de gato, but smoking??? please, kmon. it'd rather be red wine hahaha... and the one whose braincells work under drugs OMG...

  • amazing, one of my favorite pieces - love her style, going to buy this DVD...

  • A musician on her level can't effort smoking weed, they need all the braincells they have lol

  • @quinto34 Actually, most scientific studies today suggest that THC encourages the growth of new cells in the brain (not to mention encourages the death of cancer cells while stimulating the growth of new cells in their place).

Also, you can hardly call cannabis smokers unintelligent. Carl Sagan, Bob Dylan, Richard Feynman, and Diego Rivera were all avid cannabis users among many, many more.

  • @quinto34 There are a lot of famous artists & musicians that attribute 'weed' to their passion and creativity. In any case, why mention Hilary Hahn and weed in the same sentence???

  • @RandomWalkTheory

I seriously doubt you will find professional classical music performers using canabis..might be fine for some less complicated arts.. ..

  • @quinto34 I agree that classical music performers probably wouldn't be able to perform while on canabis.. Although I'm pretty sure 'some' classical performers drink alcohol or smoke canabis while not performing.. ..

  • @quinto34

It's harder to be a classical musician than it is to be a pop.

More than once, I've heard dozens of pop songs being played to the same list of chords being played repeatedly by a single guitarist or pianist. It's strange how most of the modern day songs we're familiar with are just a theme and variation on a series of chords that existed and were popular from the era of Johann Sebastian Bach.

  • @Zappyguy111 It's harder to be an astronaut than it is to be a deep see diver.. Sorry, but classical vs pop is a stupid comparison. An incommensurability in mathematical/philosophical terms.

  • @voxhunden

Astronaut and Deep sea diver is like comparing a tomato with an onion. They're both round and edible, but unrelated otherwise.

To me comparing different genres of music is more like comparing a Roma tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. They're both tomatoes despite the size, shape and taste.

I'm guessing you're an exclusive genre listener?

  • @Zappyguy111 For genre issues see my playlists. Deep see divers and astronauts do basically the same things, only in different physical environments. Classical and pop musicians do entirely different things. Virtuosity, a key ingredient of classical music, hardly plays a role in pop music, which has entirely different goals. You accuse pop musicians of not matching criteria which they don't pretend to match in the first place. So there's no point in doing that. Each his/her own metier..

  • @voxhunden

But both set out to set out to induce emotions when people listen to them. One takes the long and extravagant way while the other takes the shortcut and doesn't deviate much from the set emotion. :P

I am not accusing anyone of anything. Each genre completes each of their own metier.

  • @voxhunden My comment was to point out funny things that appear in our modern world, are in fact things that have been around for hundreds of years. They have been given "a new coat of paint" to make them seem different.

  • @Zappyguy111 So what?

  • @netzteil2

    Wha....?

  • @quinto34 do u mean afford?

  • @mrsuperasianchild

Yes, I stand corrected, thanks for the effort ;-D

  • Hilary, I don't know what to say, this is so beautifull. I Love you playing.

  • @quinto34 Weed doesn't kill braincells.

  • THANKYOU,LOVE BACH.MAN OF MUSIC.

  • great!The best music!

  • I wounder if she partys?!?! do you think hilary hahn smokes weed? I bet she does, I also bet this comment gets deleted... anyhow loved the video.

  • what makes you think she smokes weed?!!! She's a classical musician! Think twice before you say something like this. Please!

  • does anyone knows which song was played by her on the tonight show with conan 0' brien show on 1/14/10.

  • Bach - BWV 1041 - Allegro assai

  • Comment removed

  • It doesn't feel as pure as Bach.

  • Im guessing you've heard Bach play.

  • No, but I head Gould's interpretation for Bach.

  • mais quel emmerveillement...

  • i like this!!

  • what is she playing before the conductor says "First movement, take one"??

  • the a string. some of person in the orchestra is running through another piece to practice.

  • Good question, was wondering myself... jdducut83 is right that it's not her playing, you can hear the notes before she evens picks up her violin - still I'd love to know which piece it is!

  • talent, that's what makes her violin her violin!

  • Uberloinvongenchler,

That's the 3rd movement of this concerto!

    Yishu,

    Greetings from Taipei

  • does anyone know who made her violin or what kind it is?!

  • Her violin is a copy of Paganini's 'Cannone' made by Vuillaume. As for her strings, she uses Dominants for the A, D and G (all medium gauge) and uses a Wondertone E

  • @Muggleman12 She plays a 1864 Vuillaume, and it's a copy of the Cannone Guarneri del Gesu.

  • Its amazing how lonely a violin can sound. She is great. That guy looks like one of the stooges!

  • She's Excelent

  • Bach lives inside her body

  • @ginecologist LOL

  • @ginecologist . She is the greatest performer of Bach's violin concertos, but I did not know that the man with the batton was the twin brother of Gene Wilder!!!
