This is my favorite Steve Perry vocal. There is no other entertainer that has the passion in their vocals like Steve Perry. He is one in a million and adored by all his fans!
I don't think anybody can beat Steve Perry. He is the best and always will be. He is also the sexiest man in this whole universe. Even in those green jeans
@missbitch. I agree that he doesn't owe anyone anything-he's given so much. BUT, he himself keeps saying that he misses the singing, that he has stuff he's working on that he hopes to release, and that he doesn't want the Journey tunes to be his last legacy. And that was in interviews this year. Just want him to do it for HIMSELF. Regrets over what you left 'too late' are the worst thing. Sade, Peter Wolf, the Eagles, are his age-McCartney is 68! He can do it, too!
Youre so right missbitch, Steve Perry doesnt have to prove himself to anyone, his sensational back catalouge is here for all to see and hear, as well as his masssive contribution to the 80 million album sales of Journey. He has proved himself 80 million times over already ,and whilst it would be fantastic to hear from him again, i for one,am enternally grateful to him for sharing his wonderful voice with us all.
The bottom line is that before Steve, Journey was a group of virtuosos...but little broader appeal; Steve completed them, made them a complete musical force and the rest is history; he's a great singer for a band of outstanding instrumentalists.
No one would even know who Journey is today if not for Steve Perry. They were about to lose their record label because of no radio time. Steve came along and saved their butts.
If you don't like Steve Perry, you don't like Journey. If you don't like Journey, don't listen to them and don't post comments on Journey videos on Youtube. Simple as that! I don't go around posting comments on Britney videos just because I don't like her music...
@StevePerrySucks : They would put him back out front in a heartbeat if he was willing. You can say many things about Perry, but he never sucked. He was a singer's singer and a talented musician. His songs earned Journey many gold and platinum records. Can't say that for any of his successors. If Perry sucked, where does that put those who followed and have thus far produced nothing in terms of hit records? Like it or not, Perry is a legend and will remain so long after he leaves this Earth.
They also wouldn't of kept hiring tenor singers to sing Steve's songs and re-recording the classic Journey songs, riding on past success. Steve's coattails. None of the wannabes will ever come close to Steve's greatness.
Where would Journey would have been without Steve Perry ???Its not that they had massive success b4 Steve Perry - I can only agree with fbendz - if you don't like - go elsewhere!
@StevePerrySucks: The ones who ruined Journey are those who were too greedy to leave the band intact and insisted on hiring Perry immitators to fill the massive void. Like it or not, Journey and Steve Perry will forever be synonymous. The warm bodies they have found to replace Perry will never see anything close to the popularity that Perry brought to the band. He was more than a great singer and entertainer - he was a fine musician and songwriter.
Missbitch and VeryStevePerry I totally agree with your comments. Steve Perry does not owe anyone anything or need to prove anything. What he did for Journey speaks for itself in record sales etc. I hope Steve is happy and if he ever decides to release that new cd he will once again make many people world-wide happy also,
who's idea was it to pick this new lead singer he's terrible he's always singing the same old songs steve sang while he was with journey steve will always be the best in my opinion
@snowbuthead Why should Steve Perry be doing anything? Should he be out there just cos people expect him to be? All this BS about his voice,he does'nt have to prove himself to us true fans, sure i'd love him to come back but if hes happy doing what hes doing good luck to him.
I think it is cruelest for the vocalist-barring something like arthritis, the guitarist, pianist, etc. can go on virtually forever. A singer must feel like his body is betraying him as he ages. Yet I think I like Perry's voice around age 47-48 during Trial by Fire better-has a huskiness to it and a nuance that comes with life experience and maturity. Makes the songs even more meaningful-and oh so sexy!
We keyboard players (and guitarists I'm sure) often succumb to injuries such as 'repetetive strain'. Not to mention smoshing our thumbs with hammers hanging that picture up for her..!!!
Hi gluch, Yes I agree I love perrys voice in TBF and FTLOSM he sounds the way he is suppose too, sexy and oh so soulful. When he sings the song When You Love A woman, and he jerks himself back with that long hair I swear my knees get weak. I swear its like he jilts a bolt of emotions through my body at that part and Im clued to him!!! I love him!!!
@gluchnurse Oh I believe that would have been Journey's very best album and tour if Steve had not gotten hurt and had that bad hip. Trial by Fire is my favorite next to Frontiers.
Rolie and Schon both got jealous of steve.. i jus wish neal would have left (like Rolie did) instead of steve.. neal was great but is replaceable.. SP is the greatest singer in history and his passion and voice and love for his music and fans is not replaceable.. we'll love you forever Steve!
Journey is Neal's band not Steve's there was a Journey before Steve. Neal Schon is not replacable he's one of the greatest guitarist to live. Just listen to this song it would be nothing withot Schon.
Like any aging vocalist, Plant included, those youthful chops don't last forever, but god bless 'em all 'cause we were able to enjoy them at their peak.
Steve Perry is a legendary Artist and owes nothing to his fans he already gave it to us to hold and cherish 4-ever what he does now is his own privelage he already earned his respect from his true fans.
Steve Perry. How freaking sexy!!!! Wow!!! as for whatever you are talking about. Steve needs to do what makes Steve happy. fans can be too damn cruel and picky to submit yourself to not living up to the past. I would love to see a new Steve Perry and if he didn't hit a note, I would still love him the same. I love him while he does what makes him happy. He's given so much, though it may never be enough, it's fulfilling. He is a wonderful person. 'happy to give' said it all. love u dearly Steve
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm talking about Stev-o sitting around in his house smoking ganja all freaking day and not wanting to do anything remotely useful with his voice for the last 2 decades (save some half hearted solo albums and sub standard Journey release in 96)
That man worked so brutally hard night after night to deliver these nearly impossible songs...absolutely breath-taking!I know it cost you dearly. Thank you Steve for all you gave us!
I used to believe this was true. The "cost you dearly" part. But, there are voice teachers/coaches out there who could help Steve recover his voice. Specifically, Jeanette LoVetri. She specializes in CCM (Commercial Contemporary Music) and one of her biggest points is "register balance," which Steve sadly lost in the latter part of the Journey era. I know for a FACT that he could get it back with the right coach!!
In a recent HH interview he said that Steve had been working with voice coaches but that it wasn't helping...Of course, I consider the source, but I wonder how much of the youthful clarity could be expected to come back to a voice that has gone through so much and aged as we all do.....If it were possible that he could feel able to do justice to singing I surely hope he would trust his fans to love whatever he could give us....
Secondly, this type of "voice recovery" can take a year or longer. That's the unfortunate part for the fans. Old habits are VERY hard to break when it comes to singing. Register balance is the key, I say again!! You need to start out at very low volume levels and gradually work your way back. Frustrating. Believe me, I'm dealing with the same problem myself, as I am a professional singer.
Steve and Neal are cool now days, Trust me as much as I love Steves Voice I Have Followed Neal Career Since BEFOR Journey and I Do Rember the First Journey Album.Neal is The reason I play Guitar, I would put neil up to any guitarest, he is so awsome to listen to!
For being a song near the end of the last show of a tour, his voice is simply amazing. This is not an easy song. Thanks for putting up this video, mariet2!
someone actually had the nerve to send me an you tube messege that the only reason sp is good is because of his tight pants and wearing hardly a shirt. can you belive that moron? he could be 80 years old and his voice would still be amazing.
