@Serinia4melodic or you just got used to hear a russian soprano sing this piece. Don't forget, Dessay has a really light voice what the most russian opera singers don't have. Their voice is so full, so russian. No offens, but I think she didn't sing the way you tried to demonstrate with your comment. She just sang with her own style, own voice, and she didn't want to copy the russian style. Besides her rendition was wonderful.
@athinasophia Tried to demonstrate?:)) LOL I just put MY opinion and not a statement. And yes you are right usually east European sopranos are trained into fuller voices. Americans and others are accustomed to lighter voices singing maybe lyric rep. but that is never the case here. Light is good for clarity of pronunciation but without depth you can`t be heard in the opera house. I don`t know maybe they have mics but I`m from Romania and my teacher always takes grate care about my tone depth.
