This guy needs to mind his own damn business. He's pissed because he has to look at a religious ceremony he doesn't agree with. Well too fucking bad. I get pissed every time some buck toothed Bible thumper starts in with the "you need Jesus!" bullshit, and when some rationaler-than-thou Atheist starts in with the "you are so simple because you have religion" bit, but I don't run to grab a camera and start making "documentaries" about how those people are bad. Mind your own damn business bigot.
@HoundofOdin You completely missed the part where the guy doing the slaughtering was breaking the law that the rest of us had to follow, and was avoiding paying taxes while running a business out of his home, but that wouldn't be important to someone like you.
No, I got the part where he ignored the zoning laws, but that doesn't change the fact that you should have called the cops and then left it the fuck alone. Videoing yourself bitching about obnocsious neighbors a documentary does not make.
Yeah, I wanted to get the full picture of what was going on. And it turns out the full picture is that this should have been left to the cops. I hope the guy goes to jail because he is A: misrepresenting Santeria and B: ignoring zoning laws, but still, it's a legal issue, not evidence of how religion is bad.

wtf? I hate to imagine what would have happened if they had closed that gate on you. It sounded like he wanted to have you killed. Also what is up with that judge?
The house was tainted? It seems that your main issue ( or your woman's at least) is that you are offended because something 'other' and 'impure' took place next door.
@tripleleo No, the issue is that we moved into a neighborhood that had certain rules. He was not following those rules and felt he was exempt because he speaks to invisible (and to my mind, imaginary) spirits.
I haven't watched you video in a long while, but what seemed to piss you off was that someone was killing an animal for reasons you didn't approveh of. Also, seems that he really wasn't breaking a law, as his actions were exempt from local zoning bs, according to the local govt. type. This whole legal issue is a bs trojan horse for you. HAd nothing to do with sanitary issues, nothing to do with the noise, everything to do with you being a whiny fool. You lost, get over it.
@tripleleo I am over it but let me get this straight...if someone moves next door to you and begins a practice that you feel reduces your quality of life AND that practice is against the rules of the neighborhood that everyone else has to follow then that's okay with you as long as he is a priest of some kind?
I'm just trying to figure out how deep your hypocrisy and stupidity runs because if you can't see that this is an issue about freedom, including YOUR freedom, then I can't help you.
Sorry I accidentally deleted your recent post when I meant to hit respond. Please repost it if you will. THis is the only post of your I responded to because I have been over and over the other points you bring up many times. You want to do what you want to do and everyone else's quality of life can be damned.
You never thought that perhaps they didn't WANT to oppose religion, because unlike you and your woman, they are willing to tolerate a little behaviour that might freak them out a little, because they understand tolerance is a give and take issue.
@mikepulcinella YES. Its amazing how many people won't stand up for our rights, and our morals! Its pretty sad! What is really right in this world? The justice system is flawed. I am 100 % with you Mike!
Had you and your woman perhaps handled things differently after the initial incident, it's not likely that al of this other shit would have gone down.
As for your concern with the legalities of Goat Killing in residential neighborhoods... I really don't think that 1o year olds should be drinking alcohol, whether in a home a bar, or an 'other'... but I'm not going to start making a fuss and and bother a Roman Catholic Priest about his giving out Communion.
@tripleleo 1 year olds do not receive communion in the catholic chuch. Communion is not received until children are 7-8 and still they do not receive the wine. If a catholic priest is found giving alcohol to a minor he should be as you put it 'bothered'. All religions should be subject to the law.
This guys unstable behavior aside ( and forgetting that you and your woman's behavior towards him no doubt caused at least some of it)... why are you guys so ofended b y the idea of a man killing an animal for religious reasons? A much more useful end then it would be were the animal killed to make some Goat McNuggets...
And don't say that it doesn't offend you, because it clearly does...
@tripleleo They have every right to be upset. The man nextdoor killing the goat was violating a city ordinance. It has nothing to do with being offended. The man was breaking the law and needed to be punished. City ordinances are put in place for a reason; to prevent peple from doing things that upset the balance of society and to protect the freedoms of everyone in the vicinity. To compare ritual killings to farm killings is ridiculous because farm fall under a certin ordinance that allows it.
i know how you lost your case its funny but anyways you should of let the guy to his thing he was never doing anything to your girl friend you should just let him thing at the end your just going to lose trust me i know a lot about this Religion
if you were a real man. Why didn't you just move you stupid girlfriend out of that nieghborhood? Why did you have to shit where you eat? The both of you had no right to medle in that dude's business. Especially stepping into his property and acting like you have some authority over him and what he does on it. Imbecile!
One last question sir. I want to be clear on this. Please clarify for all who a reading this so that we understand exactly what you are saying...
Are you saying that there are rules that apply to me which do not apply to you because you are a priest? Are you saying that clergy of ALL religions are protected by the Constitution in such a way that it gives them exemption from SOME of the laws that the rest of us must follow?
The only thing that you and your GF should " come to expect," is to mind your own property and hope that others mind theirs. If they don't than you have the freedom of moving out to some place else. You have no right to tell others how they may or may not worship in their own home or on their own property. With all of the evidence you have furnished Mr Menendez I'm surprized he hasn't SUED you and your GF for slander and defimation of character as well as Religious persecution. I wish I Knew him.
Fascism is what is produced and acted out by people who just like you want every single person to act the same as themselves, and who want to use government to have thier points of view forced apon others especially if they seem differant from themselves. They also love to use CHEAP THEATRICS AND PROPAGANDA AGAINST OTHERS in order to inflame hatred in the hearts of men as you are attempting to. Fascists like your self don't know the meaning of freedom and you have proven that you do not either.
You are a very angry man and have been throwing a temper tantrum on my Youtube page. What are you so angry about? You won your case Mr. Suarez. My silly, poorly made videos won't make a difference, you said so yourself.
I refuse to continue to talk about this with someone so clearly unable or unwilling to have any sympathy for his fellow man. You judge me without knowing me, just as Mr. Melendez did from the first minute we met when I extended my hand in friendship and he refused to take it.
You accuse me of being "clearly unable or unwilling to have any sympathy for his fellow man," Now who is judging who? I can prove through leagal documantation and historical precedance that your statement about me is incorrect.. Can You? You claim that I'm angry yet you post silly and slanderous videos on u-tube about my Religion and culture which you admit you know nothing about..You say that I judge you without knowing you, yet you yourself through your videos prove that I'm right, you FASCIST
[cont] purposefully ruined by some busybody neighbor who cannot learn to mind their own affairs and desire to mind everybody elses. You are a Fascist and you are also a Rascist I've delt with many like you throughout my life since I was a little boy, And I can recognise one when I deal with one. Also have you ever thought to attempt to make frends with your GF'S Neighbor before harassing him and his Family? He must have been too "colorful," for that Huh? Mabey a bit too"Latino," Eh PULCINELLA??
Written like the true RASCIST SUPREMIST SECULARIST FASCIST that you are...See your self in the light of day, for how you have made yourself seem to the rest of us.
You seem to be coming unhinged Mr. Suarez. I tell you that I've been in an interracial relationship and that makes me a RACIST? I fail to see the logic. However, a few clarifications are in order.
There is no slander here. The videos are a representation of how your religion seemed to us at the time and I was careful to portray that as accurately and, yes, dramatically as I could because it was a dramatic time for us sir.
Further, there are no lawsuits forthcoming because DVDs of the entire series were sent to the parties involved before they were posted on Youtube. I made a few revisions based on their requests.
I've had Puerto Rican friends who were like brothers to me and I was initially happy to see MR. Melendez moving in because I enjoy the food, the culture and the people. My GF teaches English classes to immigrants of all kinds and finds it very rewarding. It has been incredibly devastating to us that by simply insisting that everyone follow the rules we are now labeled as racist.
[cont] WANT to do something about it I would definitely do MANY things about it and no matter thier numbers They would surely KNOW MY WRATH!! BUT IF THEY WERE DOING THIER THING ON THIER PROPERTY{except for the killing of the jew part then I would definitly do everything I could to save the jew] I WOULD MIND MY OWN BUSINESS and most certainly would not antagonise nor Produce propaganda against them as you are doing to your GF's Ex-Neighbor. Throughout this country some peoples partys are [cont]
This ain't no documentary on santeria. you just did 4 parts of bullshit and judging a religion you don't know about. instead of being a dick you should of gone on google and research this topic before making a fool of yourself. im sure if hector was of the same religion u were or maybe even white you would have a problem with what he was doing
through what your going through now. dont judge before you know the the moral of the story. and if you knew he was "Dangerous" then your ass should have just kept a distance. you violated his privacy in many ways and im appauled that they didnt approach you on that note. completely ridiculous. this documentary is trash. . .
Amen, This slew of documentaries are nothing but CRAP and innuendo......Formulated by a Rascist Fascist. I wonder when he's going to put in the swastikas and burning crosses??Willit be in Video # 5?? Stay tuned...
i think this is really ridiculous. i understand your point of veiw and hector melendez and i feel you were still in the wrong. yes the teacher friend was probably scared but the solution to every problem is not always to call the police and get authorities involved because look what happens when you do. i dont completely agree with the religion but i accept it and understand it and if you were to approach him correctly in a friendly matter you wouldnt be going
Mike do your research, Santarira and Palo Mayombe are sperate pratices. Palero practice extemely strong and powerful black magic. Many members of Santeria avoid being associated with Palo Mayombe. Palo Mayombe has its own priesthood and set of rules and regulations. Rules and regulations will vary according to the Palo Mayombe house to which an individual has been initiated into, are we really talking santaria?
exactly what im thinking, this dude(hector) looks palero to me, and saying that he is santero when he might actually be palo, is very messed up in my opinion.
Oshundayo is bat shit crazy. He uses words like Hillbilly to marginalize me yet tries to justify ritual sacrifice? Dude my comment about a Third World Country was based on my living in SEA for many years and when the courts and police fail to protect citizens that is a true start of a decline. You are free to believe what ever fairy tales you wish to but in this case one persons religious freedom infringed on another persons right to live in a safe, sanitary place.
My first Youtube comment ever. I moved out of the United States there is no justice system only the legal system. The United Sates will be a Third World country in less then 10 years if this behavior continues. I see nothing stopping it. I support you and your girl friend don't let the Youtube psychos get you down maybe your film can make some difference no matter how small.
I'm so glad you moved out of the U.S. now the rest of us can cotinue with our successfull Great Democrocy.....Good Riddance to you, by the way can you do the rest of us a favor and take Pulcinella along with you where ever the hell you are???
The United States is going to be a third world country in 10 years because of Santeria? That is the most rediculous and unfounded statement I've read so far.
This reminds me of the Dukes of Hazard (The good ole boys) or better yet, The Beverly Hillbillies.
You are right in one thing. There is nothing stopping us or our freedoms. Once the author of the documentary realizes this, maybe he will let the matter go to rest and stop badmouthing the members of our community.
You are too close to this to see it clearly oshundayo.
Activities such as this with domesticated animals are perfectly fine in the proper setting. American culture seeks to keep farm activities and city life separate. Conducting these activities in a CITY setting is the only thing I object to about your religion.
The bigger issue is when religion circumvents law. I do not think that should ever take place. Is ANYTHING allowable if it is in the name of religion? Where do we draw the line?
We have different ideas of what American culture is apparently.
I think what your idea of American culture in your agnostic white bread world of idealogies is far from what American culture actually is.
I was considering working with Mike on a balanced documentary. I believe I will have to politely decline and work on my own series that will put these things in a "real" balanced perspective and possibly work with other members of our community to show the lies and deceit in Mike's work on this
I just wanted to share some information with you. As far as saying that local authories have the ability to impose zoning violations and fines for performing animal sacrifices to practioners is false.
I don't know if you have heard of the "Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act" of 2000? It clearly states that we are fully within our right to practice our religion "free" from zoning law violations during our religious practices.
It almost appears as if it's not enough to blame Hector for his actions, that you have to take other practicioners down on the way. Possibly out of anger of the things that led up to having to move.
Like you said, documentary is your best weapon and you have demonstrated so most certainly.
Although we are a hierarchial religion, we have no pope or governing body to answer for the actions of a specific individual. There are organizations that may intercede for a priest/priestess or act as an unofficial spokesperson for our religious practices. The truth of the matter is they have no authority to impose any type of reprimands or corrective action against an individual or a group of individul priests.
Not fair in my opinion to point fingers at an organization for Hector's ways.
Mr. Melendez had been issued a card by the National African Religion Congress which he felt gave him immunity from the zoning laws. The NARC advertises itself as a governing body and we were led to believe by its president that they had some control over his actions.
My main complaint is that if the NARC and the priestess who taught him knew he was an unstable person they should not have encouraged him by allowing him to become a full priest. For that they are responsible, if nothing else.
You say the card had been issued to him. The truth is he paid to be a member and the card was sent to him. NARC is an advocacy group it is not a religious governing body. I repeat they have ZERO control over his actions. Please understand.
To say otherwise is to show it in the improper light.
You make a bold statement by saying that NARC knew he was unstable and should not have encouraged him by allowing him to become a full priest. I would love to see the proof of that statement.
I would almost bet my life that NARC had ZERO knowledge that his initiation was to take place. As a matter of fact, they are not told of any initiations to take place by anyone. They are an advocacy group.
His elders are responsible for his initiation into the priesthood and nothing else. Enough finger pointing, put the blame squarely on the individual's lap.
The documentary is very one sided and lacks a balanced perspective. You protray Santeria by the actions of Hector. Unfair indeed.
I understand and accept what you are saying but you misunderstand me.
The PRESIDENT of the NARC led us to believe that they would take care of this matter. That is what he told us on the phone. He may have been unintentionally exaggerating his authority but having never encountered this religion or organization before we didn't know any different and we expected him to help us. That's all I'm saying.
Hector's character as demonstrated in this series of videos is not the Santeria way of conducting oneself.
Don't condemn an entire religion for the actions of a few negative individuals. That would be like saying all Catholic clergy are child molesters or all Muslims are terrorists.
In every religious tradition exists positive and negative individuals.
No religious body of individuals or organization can be held accountable for Hector's actions. The blame lies soley on him.
Thank you oshundayo. I do not condemn the religion as a whole. I support freedom of religion for everyone.
I do condemn Mr. Melendez first and foremost, but also his priestess and George Ware for not stepping up and doing the right thing by reprimanding him. I have met several nice people, including yourself and akilalleytne who commented above, who have shown me that Mr. Melendez is NOT a good representative of Santeria. I will attempt to show the other side in Part 5.
Last I checked, each individual is responsible for their own actions. His elder initiated him but essentially he is going to make his own choices in life. Blaming his elders is simply nonsense. All they can do is guide him and teach him in the correct ways. If he chooses not to, he must deal with his own karmic debt. Contrary to your extensive research NARC has ZERO authority to any practioner of Santeria or decides on who becomes initiated. The idea is simply ludacris and unresearched.
I am a practitioner of the traditional Ifa from Yoruba Land. Sateria is an offshoot of our tradition as you covered in Part 2. I apologize that you and your girlfriend had to go through such an ordeal. There are protocols that must be followed with respect to ebos which is what he was doing with the animals. Any questions you may have with respect to the tradition I would be glad to answer.
What exactly are you trying to say by comparing santeria to the swine flu? Thats extremely disrespectful. For someone who is trying(and I do use the word trying very loosely becuase its not that great of an effort) to document an event your just being one sided and bitter. Seems like you just were upset that things didnt go the way you wanted it to for you and your homeless girlfriend and needed to let out your hot air and attack a religion instead of a neighbor you didnt get along with. Tsk
He was not breaking the law. He was fully within his constitutional rights and protected under the Religious Land Use and Institutinalized Persons Act of 2000. It would be against the law if he were prohibited.
He WAS breaking the law. You misunderstand the Act you cite. Further, what about the rights of his neighbors to be free of farm activities within city limits? Does that mean nothing?
Do the inhabitants of a community have the right to determine what goes on in that community? If not, then we do not have freedom. Religious freedom can only exist where there is also freedom FROM religion.
What the inhabitants of any given community have the right to is to MIND THIER OWN GODDAMN BUISINESS!!! If you can't see that Pulcinella was taunting and harrassing his gf's neighbor then you belong in a gulag. I suggest You and Pulcinella read the constitution of this country with a dictionary handy and perhaps then you may see the light allthough I doubt it as you both seem to be pretty dence.
The inhabitants of a community absolutely have the right to determine what goes on in their community. I don't know what kind of freedom you are talking about. All you care about us being able to do whatever YOU want to do and to hell with everybody else.
That's not democracy, that's selfishness.
The Hialeah decision DOES NOT say that you can do whatever you want to do wherever you want to do it. Maybe you should re-read THAT.
The freedom I'm talking about are those EARNED by me in the First Amendment of the CONSTITUTION of this my Country, Have you ever heard of that document?? It is you who need to read THAT, and while your at it read the "Hialeah," decision yourself, as who knows you may possibly get an "egimacation," from it gatomjp. You know nothing of Democracy if you think that It is only possible to reflect it in a fascist secular state, and YES, I say to HELL with YOU.
Look it up Bozo, freedom is not a "compromise," as you state, and if it were where the hell were you compromising when you were violating your neighbors right to privacy in THEIR OWN HOME? Kennedy may have stated his OPINION of his interpretation of the CONSTITUTION, I read from "Animal Sacrifice and Religious Freedom," written by O'Brien from The University of Kansas press aside from being one of the MEMBERS of the CHURH which WON the Case aganst the City of Hialeah :) You ARE a Fascist :(
"Freedom is not absolute. It is a compromise," Written like a true secularist Fascist.... Where did you get that definition from, the Adolf Hitler school of clowns or did you learn that in KKK summer camp as you were growing up as girl, I mean boy.... :) Fascism is exactly what you are DOING Look it up Adolf....
Mr. Suarez you continue to misunderstand me. I don't know how wanting everyone to follow the same agreed upon rules of a community is fascism.
To clarify, Mr. Melendez was not doing this INSIDE his home. The noise and smell were outside, in the back, and were ruining the quality of life we had come to expect when moving in to the house.
I'm sure if someone were doing something that ruined your enjoyment of your home you would want to do something about it as well.
You claim it was "outside," yet you fail to add"on his property and with in the bounds of the law," as you should have. I have not in one moment misunderstood you and I fully recognise you for who and what you are. You've also just once again pointed out that he was living there in that community way before your GF moved in.If people were to come inside my home or inside my property say a bunch of securlist Nazi's wanting to shove thier propaganda down my throat or kill a jew I wouldn't [cont]
If you can't see that Mike's girlfriend was being harassed then you are obviously very one-sided and it doesn't matter what anyone says or what information you come across, and maybe you should use that dictionary more as you obviously cannot spell.
Eye haad know eye d ah thaat wee were halveeng ah tesst & thaat mi spelling wahs goweeng two bee checked?!? Considering the few #'s of letters allowed for responce I was sure that any typo's or mistakes would have been overlooked in exchange for a responce, but I see that I was mistaken.Since when do people living in THEIR own house constitute harrassing others in theirs? I get it, when it it falls under the "Busybody," or Gladys Kravitts laws instituted by you right??
And the moment you can tell a group of people that they have no control over what goes on in their community because of religion is the day that rationality has gone out the window and real freedom ceases to exist.
Part 5 will clarify this statement and show that it is not intolerant.
lol this guy should of got more then a punch, with his bitch ass poeple need to understand america has a freedom to religion not lets just say there is freedom then force us to be what they feel is right.
thats why they lost so much and moved at the end of the whole thing you cant fuck with people that practice that religion trust me he hexxed them people
they moved lost 1000's of dollars and had to live with friends hmmm smells like a hex
A hex only works on the childish mind that believes in hexes. We left because a PERSON threatened us with more violence, nothing more.
You need to understand that with freedom also comes responsibility. Freedom doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. You must respect the freedoms of others. That's what this series is about.
I watched all of your video's after one of your friends told me about it. And i think they are awesome. I was hooked to see the next. Documented excellently and interestingly. I hope things work out. This, im sure is a world wide issue, and needs to be adressed. I would suggest maybe appealing to a tv producer to get this documentary aired. Let the world see whats going on.
Actually Fanas5 the sacrifice of animals is often more humane than the slaughtering practices perpetrated by meat-packing plants. Animal sacrifice should only be banned if we ban all animal slaughter including euthanasia of terminal pets.
It is the problem that we are so greedy. We are carnivorous, but that does not give us the right to make animals suffer just because we want a bigger profit.
You should really be worry what's going on with the government now then about some poor guy, you should do your research on
Illumanti , Freemasons , new world order

You never thought that perhaps they didn't WANT to oppose religion, because unlike you and your woman, they are willing to tolerate a little behaviour that might freak them out a little, because they understand tolerance is a give and take issue.
tripleleo 2 years ago
@mikepulcinella YES. Its amazing how many people won't stand up for our rights, and our morals! Its pretty sad! What is really right in this world? The justice system is flawed. I am 100 % with you Mike!
FamousRaia 1 year ago
Had you and your woman perhaps handled things differently after the initial incident, it's not likely that al of this other shit would have gone down.
As for your concern with the legalities of Goat Killing in residential neighborhoods... I really don't think that 1o year olds should be drinking alcohol, whether in a home a bar, or an 'other'... but I'm not going to start making a fuss and and bother a Roman Catholic Priest about his giving out Communion.
tripleleo 2 years ago
@tripleleo 1 year olds do not receive communion in the catholic chuch. Communion is not received until children are 7-8 and still they do not receive the wine. If a catholic priest is found giving alcohol to a minor he should be as you put it 'bothered'. All religions should be subject to the law.
om3g488 2 years ago
This guys unstable behavior aside ( and forgetting that you and your woman's behavior towards him no doubt caused at least some of it)... why are you guys so ofended b y the idea of a man killing an animal for religious reasons? A much more useful end then it would be were the animal killed to make some Goat McNuggets...
And don't say that it doesn't offend you, because it clearly does...
tripleleo 2 years ago
@tripleleo They have every right to be upset. The man nextdoor killing the goat was violating a city ordinance. It has nothing to do with being offended. The man was breaking the law and needed to be punished. City ordinances are put in place for a reason; to prevent peple from doing things that upset the balance of society and to protect the freedoms of everyone in the vicinity. To compare ritual killings to farm killings is ridiculous because farm fall under a certin ordinance that allows it.

One last question sir. I want to be clear on this. Please clarify for all who a reading this so that we understand exactly what you are saying...
Are you saying that there are rules that apply to me which do not apply to you because you are a priest? Are you saying that clergy of ALL religions are protected by the Constitution in such a way that it gives them exemption from SOME of the laws that the rest of us must follow?
mikepulcinella 2 years ago

I refuse to continue to talk about this with someone so clearly unable or unwilling to have any sympathy for his fellow man. You judge me without knowing me, just as Mr. Melendez did from the first minute we met when I extended my hand in friendship and he refused to take it.

Hector doesn't fit into either?

Oshundayo is bat shit crazy. He uses words like Hillbilly to marginalize me yet tries to justify ritual sacrifice? Dude my comment about a Third World Country was based on my living in SEA for many years and when the courts and police fail to protect citizens that is a true start of a decline. You are free to believe what ever fairy tales you wish to but in this case one persons religious freedom infringed on another persons right to live in a safe, sanitary place.

To TysonBangkok:
The United States is going to be a third world country in 10 years because of Santeria? That is the most rediculous and unfounded statement I've read so far.
This reminds me of the Dukes of Hazard (The good ole boys) or better yet, The Beverly Hillbillies.
You are right in one thing. There is nothing stopping us or our freedoms. Once the author of the documentary realizes this, maybe he will let the matter go to rest and stop badmouthing the members of our community.
oshundayo 2 years ago
You are too close to this to see it clearly oshundayo.
Activities such as this with domesticated animals are perfectly fine in the proper setting. American culture seeks to keep farm activities and city life separate. Conducting these activities in a CITY setting is the only thing I object to about your religion.
The bigger issue is when religion circumvents law. I do not think that should ever take place. Is ANYTHING allowable if it is in the name of religion? Where do we draw the line?
mikepulcinella 2 years ago
We have different ideas of what American culture is apparently.
I think what your idea of American culture in your agnostic white bread world of idealogies is far from what American culture actually is.
I was considering working with Mike on a balanced documentary. I believe I will have to politely decline and work on my own series that will put these things in a "real" balanced perspective and possibly work with other members of our community to show the lies and deceit in Mike's work on this
oshundayo 2 years ago
That's your decision but you didn't answer my question.
Is ANYTHING allowable if it is in the name of religion?
mikepulcinella 2 years ago
I believe anything should be allowable in the name of religion if it is not causing physical harm to it's practitioners or to others.
That's my final say.

I just wanted to share some information with you. As far as saying that local authories have the ability to impose zoning violations and fines for performing animal sacrifices to practioners is false.
I don't know if you have heard of the "Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act" of 2000? It clearly states that we are fully within our right to practice our religion "free" from zoning law violations during our religious practices.
oshundayo 2 years ago
It almost appears as if it's not enough to blame Hector for his actions, that you have to take other practicioners down on the way. Possibly out of anger of the things that led up to having to move.
Like you said, documentary is your best weapon and you have demonstrated so most certainly.
oshundayo 2 years ago
Although we are a hierarchial religion, we have no pope or governing body to answer for the actions of a specific individual. There are organizations that may intercede for a priest/priestess or act as an unofficial spokesperson for our religious practices. The truth of the matter is they have no authority to impose any type of reprimands or corrective action against an individual or a group of individul priests.
Not fair in my opinion to point fingers at an organization for Hector's ways.
oshundayo 2 years ago
For that they are responsible, if nothing else.
mikepulcinella 2 years ago
You say the card had been issued to him. The truth is he paid to be a member and the card was sent to him. NARC is an advocacy group it is not a religious governing body. I repeat they have ZERO control over his actions. Please understand.
To say otherwise is to show it in the improper light.
You make a bold statement by saying that NARC knew he was unstable and should not have encouraged him by allowing him to become a full priest. I would love to see the proof of that statement.
oshundayo 2 years ago
I would almost bet my life that NARC had ZERO knowledge that his initiation was to take place. As a matter of fact, they are not told of any initiations to take place by anyone. They are an advocacy group.
His elders are responsible for his initiation into the priesthood and nothing else. Enough finger pointing, put the blame squarely on the individual's lap.
The documentary is very one sided and lacks a balanced perspective. You protray Santeria by the actions of Hector. Unfair indeed.
oshundayo 2 years ago
I understand and accept what you are saying but you misunderstand me.
The PRESIDENT of the NARC led us to believe that they would take care of this matter. That is what he told us on the phone. He may have been unintentionally exaggerating his authority but having never encountered this religion or organization before we didn't know any different and we expected him to help us. That's all I'm saying.
mikepulcinella 2 years ago
Hector's character as demonstrated in this series of videos is not the Santeria way of conducting oneself.
Don't condemn an entire religion for the actions of a few negative individuals. That would be like saying all Catholic clergy are child molesters or all Muslims are terrorists.
In every religious tradition exists positive and negative individuals.
No religious body of individuals or organization can be held accountable for Hector's actions. The blame lies soley on him.
oshundayo 2 years ago
Thank you oshundayo. I do not condemn the religion as a whole. I support freedom of religion for everyone.
I do condemn Mr. Melendez first and foremost, but also his priestess and George Ware for not stepping up and doing the right thing by reprimanding him. I have met several nice people, including yourself and akilalleytne who commented above, who have shown me that Mr. Melendez is NOT a good representative of Santeria. I will attempt to show the other side in Part 5.
mikepulcinella 2 years ago
Last I checked, each individual is responsible for their own actions. His elder initiated him but essentially he is going to make his own choices in life. Blaming his elders is simply nonsense. All they can do is guide him and teach him in the correct ways. If he chooses not to, he must deal with his own karmic debt. Contrary to your extensive research NARC has ZERO authority to any practioner of Santeria or decides on who becomes initiated. The idea is simply ludacris and unresearched.
oshundayo 2 years ago
I am a practitioner of the traditional Ifa from Yoruba Land. Sateria is an offshoot of our tradition as you covered in Part 2. I apologize that you and your girlfriend had to go through such an ordeal. There are protocols that must be followed with respect to ebos which is what he was doing with the animals. Any questions you may have with respect to the tradition I would be glad to answer.

I suggest You and Pulcinella read the constitution of this country with a dictionary handy and perhaps then you may see the light allthough I doubt it as you both seem to be pretty dence.
jsuarez713 2 years ago
The inhabitants of a community absolutely have the right to determine what goes on in their community. I don't know what kind of freedom you are talking about. All you care about us being able to do whatever YOU want to do and to hell with everybody else.
That's not democracy, that's selfishness.
The Hialeah decision DOES NOT say that you can do whatever you want to do wherever you want to do it. Maybe you should re-read THAT.
gatomjp 2 years ago
The freedom I'm talking about are those EARNED by me in the First Amendment of the CONSTITUTION of this my Country, Have you ever heard of that document?? It is you who need to read THAT, and while your at it read the "Hialeah," decision yourself, as who knows you may possibly get an "egimacation," from it gatomjp. You know nothing of Democracy if you think that It is only possible to reflect it in a fascist secular state, and YES, I say to HELL with YOU.
jsuarez713 2 years ago
Freedom is not absolute. It is a compromise.
Justice Kennedy said in Hialeah that concerns of the community CAN take precedence over religious freedom. What version are YOU reading?
Fascism is when you no longer have a choice or a say. That is what you want for your neighbors.
mikepulcinella 2 years ago
Look it up Bozo, freedom is not a "compromise," as you state, and if it were where the hell were you compromising when you were violating your neighbors right to privacy in THEIR OWN HOME? Kennedy may have stated his OPINION of his interpretation of the CONSTITUTION, I read from "Animal Sacrifice and Religious Freedom," written by O'Brien from The University of Kansas press aside from being one of the MEMBERS of the CHURH which WON the Case aganst the City of Hialeah :) You ARE a Fascist :(

jsuarez713 2 years ago
I'm sure if someone were doing something that ruined your enjoyment of your home you would want to do something about it as well.
mikepulcinella 2 years ago
You claim it was "outside," yet you fail to add"on his property and with in the bounds of the law," as you should have. I have not in one moment misunderstood you and I fully recognise you for who and what you are. When people start "minding their business" and turn a blind eye to neighborhood destroying activities is when the community begins to go downhill.

The moment you dictate to an individual how or where he may worship is the day that religious freedom ceases to exist.
Freedom from religion to me is defined as religious ignorance and intolerance.
oshundayo 2 years ago
And the moment you can tell a group of people that they have no control over what goes on in their community because of religion is the day that rationality has gone out the window and real freedom ceases to exist.
Part 5 will clarify this statement and show that it is not intolerant.
gatomjp 2 years ago
I think its safe to say that worshipping a religion should not harm others. So yes, there should very clearly be some rules in place.
chicken77777 2 years ago
To this date, nobody has been harmed practicing Santeria to my knowledge.
Putting rules in place for a religion makes freedom of religion an oxymoron.
