  • "That guy skates like Messier".

    --Lays potato chips commercial.

  • @leafyutube ....who are we??

    THE PYLONS!!!!!!!

  • mrceebees14..tomas wears # 3 and he's left handed shot...this guys is right handed shot and wears # 2..lol

  • @mrceebees14 I - In the 1983-4 Regular Season, Edmonton finished first overall with 119 points, and the Islanders second with 104. So in the "old format," the Oilers would have played the first 2 at home, plus games 5 & 7 if necessary. In the new format, over 7 games, the Islanders would actually have home advantage, even though they finished with 15 less points. If anyone should have been complaining about the new format it should have been the Oilers.

  • The 1983 and 84 finals, where it was Isles and Oilers, probably collectively consisted of the two most powerful awesome teams in a single series that's ever been. When's the last time we had a final where we had such a collection of great players on BOTH teams? Oilers were dumb and naive in 83 while the Isles supremely confident and stubborn, and the Isles lost their edge in 84 while the Oilers started to believe for real. Transfer of power . . .

  • Those were the days...wow! Mark Messier, Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier, Paul Coffey they were the best!

  • The turning point. A moose like Messier was the one to get it done. The rest followed. Edmonton failed to win more than two Cups in a row but were in the finals 6 of 8 years so that counts for something.

  • That wasn't Tomas Jonsson ... it was Gord Dineen, who was a rookie and was paired with Potvin ..... this goal broke my heart. Oilers were the better team, though. Isles were banged up. I would have watched these teams play 100 times in a row.

  • The days of the great dynasties. Oilers had the likes of Fuhr, Gretzky, Messier, Coffey, Anderson, Lowe. Are you kidding me? How could they not win. The Isles, with Bossy, Trottier, Potvin, Smith. Those were some good times.

  • haha the fan at 0:08 seconds is Weird Al Yankovic xD

  • he also beat Denis Potvin on that. Isles swept them in 1983. Oilers won 84 4-1.

  • No he didn't beat Potvin, you obviously have never played the game, he went towards Tomas, not Denis. Tomas HAS TO make that play, it's hockey 101, you pick up the man and cover the point, Denis did that but Tomas 1) didn't start to backpedal quick enough 2) fucking stopped with Messier at full speed.

Yes, I know the Isles swept them, I was there with my Uncle in section 333 back then.

They won 4-1........on that BS 2-3-2 format. Old format the Isles might've won that 5th cup.

  • how could the islanders have won on the old format? i don't understand.

  • @NYR21135 What are you cracked? Have you ever played hockey? Tomas missed his assignment, you push on the guy to slow him down, that didn't happen, Messier retained his speed and balance and you can't catch someone ESPECIALLY when they have you on the inside you asshole.

Learn the fucking game first, he didn't beat Potvin, he beat Tomas.

  • @mrceebees14 I'm not even going to begin to point out the VAST amount of incorrectness in every one of your comments. You are a baffoon.

  • @NYR21135 - Not really. He was Gord Dineen's man.

  • @NYR21135 Potvin was never swept in a finals though. ; )

  • Comment removed

  • @mrceebees14 That wasn't Tomas Jonsson. Jonsson shoots left and the defenceman that Messier beat shot right. That was Gord Dineen. And of course Messier didn't walk around Potvin. If I'm going 1 on 2 against Dineen and Potvin, I'm going to Dineen's side too. If you want to beat someone you play to their weaknesses, not their strengths. As for the 2-3-2 argument, explain why the Islanders got the first 2 games at home when the Oilers finished higher in the standings.

  • @mrceebees14 - it wasn't Tomas Jonsson. It was Gord Dineen. If you ere an Islander fan back then, you remember it was Gord Dineen - trust me!

  • @jpwjr1199 That is news to me, because Potvin only had two steady line mates with him, Stephan Persson for the powerplay and penalty kill and Paul Boutileer.

I just checked the stats, Gord played in 9 playoff games that year, maybe one of the aforementioned was hurt.

  • @mrcee- I don't know how far you go back with the Isles, but, trust me, it was Dineen's man. And, not to pick, but you are wrong about Paul Boutilier being Potvin's linemate. Potvin had Dave Lewis in the 70's and Ken Morrow in the 80's. Arbour mixed his pairings frequently (so Bout. played with Potvin at times, but seldom), and Stefan Persson did play with Denis on the PP, as you said. Boutilier was a lefty shot, so he was paired with right defensemen, often (Potvin was a lefty, too).

  • @ (part 2) - Additionally, Boutilier was not there for the cup years (not on the ice, anyway). Neither was Dineen. Actually, it was the emergence of those two defensemen that "allowed" Torrey to basically give away Mike McEwen to LA. McEwen was sliding in play, and was always a bit flakey, but I don't believe he let's Messier go uncontested through the slot like that. McEwen, a vet, probably would have taken a penalty there. Anyway, I wish they were back in the finals again!

  • @jpwjr1199 Incorrect, he won the 1983 cup with the Isles, that I know you are 100% wrong on. I am not convinced that is Dineen, have to check it out.

McEwen was a give away when we got him after the Rangers stupidly let him go. He was an excellent mobile defenseman with an accurate sweet slap shot, I remember not being happy when they let him go.

  • @mrceebees14 Well, yeah he has a ring, but really was not on the ice much, which is what I wrote in the parentheticals. Basically, he was a vestigial presence for one cup - not a contributor. And, yes...It IS Gord Dineen - no question about it. You can stop wondering, I can only assume you were not around to watch them yet, if you don't remember that play because they replayed it to death back then and the main reason for Messier's Conn Smythe.

  • @jpwjr1199 You said "Boutilier was not there for the cup years (not on the ice, anyway)." That is wrong. You are totally off base, because here are his stats from that year.

    1983-1984 ISLANDERS 28 0 11 11 18 36 0 0 0 31 0.0 ---Regular season

    1983-1984 ISLANDERS 21 1 7 8 10 0 0 1 --playoffs.

He played 21 games in the playoffs.......21!

  • @mrceebees14 Dude, I dunno why you are going round and round with me, here - 83-84 was NOT a cup year! Alright, I'm done here. You are wrong - I know you are wrong - deal with it

  • @jpwjr1199 My bad posted the wrong stats.

    1982-83 New York Islanders NHL 29 4 5 9 24 -5--regular season 2 0 0 0 2--playoffs

As I said before, you said he wasn't there for the cups years, he was there for 29 regular season games, that is more then a quarter of the season since they played 80 games back then. You said he wasn't on the ice for the playoffs, 2 > 0. I will deal with the truth.

  • @m14 look, i am starting to feel guilty, here! I was trying to make a point from the start that I remember this stuff from when I was a kid and I wouldn't lead you astray. I was not trying to debate - just clarify. I promise you that although Boutilier, G.Gilbert, and Hallin were technically part of the Championship teams, they hardly played nor had ice X. If P.Boutilier played in any game in 1983 for over 4 minutes, it had to be 1 or 2x late in the year, when Arbour was resting banged up d-men.

  • @jpwjr1199 the defense was potvin ,lane,persson,thomas,morrow,langevin

  • @meghanxreneex33 you're teasing me, right? No such guy as Thomas on the Isles' defense corps, now nor then

  • @mrceebees14btw, the Islanders got Mike McEwen from the Rockies after he was feuding with Don Cherry - not the Rangers. Just to clarify, I'm sorry but I don't consider a guy brought to the big club as a healthy scratch from Quebec Major Junior for 20 or so games part of the big team. Boutilier became a real part of the Islanders in 1984 at the same time Gilbert, LaFontaine, Flatley, and Dineen did. That's when they really started to get ice time with the big club. Trust me, I watched it!

  • @mrceebees14 You could beat an NHL defenseman? One who's playing along side Denis Potvin in the Stanley Cup Finals? You could do that do him? I have a strange feeling if you could, you wouldn't be commenting on videos on youtube critiquing Hall of Fame hockey players. Also, your hockey (and math) knowledge isn't very high, seeing as how clearly this was a 1 on 2, both defensemen backed in and gave Mess the blueline. Which is what speed does, backs people up, but you probably knew that already.

  • I remember watching that goal and it brought me right outta my chair. Beautiful.

  • sick hands for back in the day.

    moose was a god

  • This is the goal that turned that '84 Final around. The Isles were ahead 2-1 in Game 3 and in control, then the tide turned after this Messier goal.

  • Your not kidding. On this one play, one dynasty was finished and another one began. I would say it was like Hoover dam blowing apart and a 600 foot high wall of water coming down when the Oilers offense exploded. Didn't NY goaler Billy Smith have to be pulled?

  • And Billy imploded. He stopped more difficult shots than that a year ago. And what was Potvin looking at letting messier get by like that. I guess father time taking its toll.

  • why are you arguing about that which team suck/don't suck balls. Admire Messier's dangle+stickhandling as the defender needed a guide dog after that game to get back home.

  • The Islanders will never see a stanley cup final apperance again. They suck. Holy shit. I don't know how you fuckers cheer for the islanders, to be honest i forgot they were in the NHL thats how fucking bad and boring they are.

  • Where were the Rangers this season?

Oh year, they were eliminated by these Islanders for the 4th year STRAIGHT.

    lol......bitches.....and you always will be.

  • Lol xD Try to make the playoffs every once in awhile and then you can try to call the Rangers bitches.. Stop living in the 80's and come see us in Manhattan after we take the cup home this year. :)

  • lmao Not gonna happen.

Umm didn't Rangers lose 6-5 against habs after leading 0-5 ?

Nothing against Rangers.. i don't diss other teams cause i'm not an immature little twinkle fuck like you.. Respect all teams man.. Rangers aren't gonna win the cup.. and neither is the fucking habs.. Thats what i think. Don't reply i won't bother reading considering your ignorance from previous comments i've read..

  • Sorry, my bad thought you were talking about the habs ''living in the 80s''. Why are you guys fighting over Islanders and Rangers your both from New York lmao... i dont get that.

  • Nothing against habs i assure you, i'm a huge Koivu fan, being from Finland and the same city that Koivu was born in. And about the Islander/Ranger feud.. Compare it to Nordiques/Canadiens :)

  • Oh yeah, i get it loll.. Its been a long time since the Nordiques and still my uncles and the Quebec side of my family always wear those Nordiques shirts to Habs games.. They were actually talking about having a new team in quebec again because of the Remparts de Quebec being so good (Junior team) which is Owned AND Coached by Patrick Roy. :)

  • Ye i heard the rumor too, but i dunno if canada will see a new hockeyclub in the near future, because of the economics. I'd love to see a club in Quebec, so that we'd have the competition with 2 clubs again :)

  • whenever I think of the Remparts I have to think of Guy Lafleur...

  • AHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAA

  • That has to be the most useless and pointless reply i've ever seen. GL HF.

  • Hey CCamp...how are the FishSticks doing now?.Ha ha ha ha.Nice raincoat.

  • 1990 last Cup Oilers will ever see... so what???

I'd rather be an Islander than a stinkin Oiler fan!!!

  • With that comment it shows what a loser you really are. An Islander fan?? The scum of the NHL. When's the last time the Islanders won the cup. Here let me refresh your memory....1983!! Live with that loserboy. Yeah, OK, last time the mighty Oil won the cup was in 1990, but you must admit the Oilers poured the heart out in 2006 and almost won the cup. If our starting goalie (ROLI) didn't get hurt in game 1, we would've earned our 6th Stanley Cup. Last time NYI got to the finals(1984) BURN!

  • Well congratulations... you got to Cup and LOST!! Like I said, it doesn't matter if the Isles ever get there again, I'd still rather cheer for that "scum" of the NHL that you so profoundly called them, than ever cheer for Edmonton. Finals or not!! My guess is you were probably jumping back on the band wagon in 2006 right?? You see, a true fan, such as the Isles fans that comment on here stick it out even when things are bad. Don't break your ankles this year when the Oilers stink it up again!!

  • Well congratulations.....you have had absoultely no successs in the past 25 years and counting!!!! hahahahaha...BURN! Boy, have you got me confussed with a Cowtown Lamers fan. I've been a season ticket holder with the Mighty Oil for 10 years and counting. 2 seats row 3 in da corner! Bests seats in da house. I also travel to different cities like Cowtown, Phoenix, Buffalo and Florida to see my Oilers play hockey. No Bandwagon jumping here buddy! 1983 and holdin' OILERS IN 2009!!

  • @brindleflye

Still have the same amount of cups as the Rangers (Thats the actual funny part.)

We can only keep going up, as we watch the Raggies plummit down.

  • Messier owned the Isles and Billy Smith.Messier the Dynasty Killer.

  • @brindleflye Billy Smith shut out Messier in the 1983 finals, so what are you talking about "owned?" The Oilers never shut out that team and the finals were split between Smith and Melanson.

Also noteworthy is the fact Smith shut out some player named Wayne Gretzky, whom even wound up being outscored by Ken Morrow, a stay at home defensemen if there ever was one.

That Isles team lost because the team was beat to hell, not because of the Oilers. The fact they made it back to the finals was

  • @brindleflye An amazement in itself. First brutal series vs the Rangers, then beating a very good Capitals team and then falling behind 0-2 to the Habs, only to win the next 4 straight.

That team did more in 5 years then the Rangers in 80+ years.

  • The Isles are the only team in the history of sports to win 19 consecutive playoff series. The Isles also have 16 members that have 4 Stanley Cup rings.

The Rangers suck, stop riding the coatails of those Oilers teams, it only shows how pathetic you are because the Rangers are eternal losers throughout much of their history.

  • how many members Montreal has that have a Stanley Cup ring? ;)

  • 1983, a dynasty you'll never be.

  • 1983 last cup you'll ever see.

  • shastilivy Must be a Flamers fan...

  • lets go rangers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the oilers are the only team in history to have 3 players on the same team, on the same line to score 50 goals each...heaven forbid u get a penalty against them...

  • Tomas Jonsson sucked, big accomplishment beating that defensemen. What is next? A clip of Messier beating Paul Boutileer?

  • message to u Campy boy, commenting on a video 10 times does'nt get your point across, it just makes u look like a loser Isles fan who has way to much time on his hands...and that "queer" Messeir owned your team after 1983, every time, Isles Suck!

  • Geez. Can ya at least know who played on your own team?? It was NOT Jonsson (he sucked?! better than 2/3rds of the dmen for the NYI, now), it was Gord Dineen (#2), who was in the lineup due due injuries on the Islanders' backline.

  • i agree totally with ccampli.....why they changed the the format to 2-3-2 is truely unknown...they say it was to say $ on traveling..yeah sure. like in any sport the league needs there top player to be successful. ie jordan, shaq, manning p., excuses or not isle were a true and only dynasty. 19 cons. playoff series victories. for someone to break that they have to win 5 cups and nowadays thats virtualy imposible

  • Ranger fans talk about the Oilers dynasty as if they are entitled to some of that glory. Talk about pathetic, if there is any team's fan that grasps for straws to an embarrassing note, it's Ranger fans.

  • Messier and those Oilers were swept by the Islanders in their first cup appearence. It's those dynasty Islanders that taught the Oilers what it took to win a cup the next year. Ranger fans were "rabid" Oilers fans back then, because they couldn't win a cup, while the Isles won 4 in a row. Just like today, Ranger fans leach off of Messier's OIlers days to make themselves feel better about their pathetic past.

  • Message to Jim

Homosexuals will never, if ever own or amount to anything.

  • Messier Owns the Isles....Yet Again

  • The best two hockey teams that ever touched the ice

  • ended the Islander dynasty, awesome!
