One day my mom brought home a box of SNES games from a yardsale. whole thing for $20. I went through each one to see which was worth my time. And then I found it. Earthbound. I had stuck gold.
I will reiterate here: emulation=stealing. It is defined to be so by law, it's silly to try and argue otherwise. I've been guilty of emulating, I fully admit that, but defending the practice is unacceptable. You are stealing a copyrighted property, that IS stealing, no matter if they actually suffer a loss or not.
Not from APE, Itoi, or Ninendo, considering that, if you buy an overpriced used cartridge on E-Bay or whatever, they will get ZERO money from the selling.
Get real: Nintendo does NOT want to sell this game again. And I'm not willing to fill some douche's pockets with 250 dollars just because this game is rare. No sir, emulation is fine and everyone should do it - unless Nintendo decides to sell this game again.
@darkemg Even if people agreed with you on emulation, I think another problem with emulation is that it isn't nearly as satisfying as an experience as the game/movie on a cartridge/CD/DVD. Which is a reason why I dropped emulation awhile ago.
@darkemg I dig this. Same idea with Chrono Trigger. I emulated the SNES version because of that rarity, but then the DS port came out, so I bought that. The circle is complete. It feels right to pay for such a good game. I wouldn't buy it again, but at least this time I'm giving back and evening things out.
@darkemg Good point, a lot of people don't seem to realize that developers and publishers lose way more profits from people who buy games used in any way shape or form, than they do with emulation or even pirating.
i feel like buy earthbound of amazon but there one problem IT'S TO DAM EXPENSIVE! have you ever seen that much money to get this one rare game? it goes from $99.00,$100.00 & $250.00. WTF is wrong with thoose sellers selling a rare rpg game at a high prise? thats bull s**t! they should at lest sell it at lower prise then a higher on.
@ARGCi If you can run it in a good fullscreen, it's just as good. Especially if you have a replica SNES USB controller, and an S-Video cable to run your PC to your TV. Do that, and there's no difference [other than price, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than shelling out $80 for the EarthBound cartridge]
I admit I'm guilty of that, but I make every effort to buy the games I actually it like; it's just that I don't always have the money for them, especially with games such as Earthbound that get so expensive online. I really don't see what anybody gains from the lack of old emulated games, though. The only people that profit are the people that sell the game for inflated prices based on a central idea that the game is supposed to be rare. The original companies get nothing.
Super Mario RPG is another game like that. It isn't rare at all, but people think it is and that causes prices online to jump due to sellers that take advantage of this.
History's greatest authors threw an epic rave that, yes, involved plenty of drugs. Afterwords they sat down and penned the most insane thing ever written and Shigesato Itoi (who snuck in at the event for unexplained reasons) got the rights to turn it into a game.
EarthBound is such an awesome game; I still have my cartridge + strategy guide (no box or manual... or stickers), although the latter has seen better days.
This is one of my favorite themes in the game, along with the Giygas battle theme (the first one).
Little boys and superflies beating up robots from the future? What drugs did I take, and which Back to the Future movie am I currently watching? Also, why do my eyes taste like loud?

@darkemg You bet your ass it is!!! Emulation helps people that just want to relive these games or explore new ones to do so!
