hail is popular in English speaking countries, heil is the correct spelling, and it's used in German speaking countries (Germany, Switzerland, ...).

And it's was originally a non Nazi greet. Like 666BCRICH666 wrote, we use heil as a normal greet in the swiss metal scene. As you see it's not only a Nazi greet.
