Too bad the band fell apart at the seams and has yet to come together in this way again... too bad. this is a masterpiece.... compare any song on this album to say... the song a bullet away? and you get the point...
just a few months ago i started listening to metallica...and i thought this song's name was... ''blacknecked'' and i said...man...this guys are a bunch of racists ¬¬ yes i know...im kind of stupid...xD
The sad thing abt this album is u cannot here the bass at all,Still my favorite album ever though! The lyrics are fucking insane on every song, and the meaning behind the album is the death of the american dream...sound familiar? Were living in this shit today!
i remember doing the BANG to this with my friend claire! we were extremely drunk ;) and played this at abt 100000 decibels...to have the neighbors knock at my door to tell me to turn it down!
@TwentYxOnExX Don't judge a book by its cover. I've met many teenagers who are actually more mature than some adults. But really arguing about this cod vs bf shit over a 'tallica vid is just pointless.
Wow. And it's not even Thrash :P Ok, the basic riff is Thrash (in a little slower version). But the album is nearly of progressive style, except 2 or 3 songs. :)
@FarApocalypse wikipedia much ? , they didn't have sub genre's back then, it was only when you new age fags came along and started creating these shitty sub genre's in the 90's
@freedomsoldier187 what the fuck are you talking about? sub-genres did exist, as early as the 60s. so i guess blues rock, glam rock, and southern rock didnt exist until the 90s? cream, david bowie, and lynyrd skynyrd were some of the biggest bands in their day, none are true 'rock' bands, so what were they if there wasnt sub-genres? get educated before you post dumbass comments on the internet, because EVERYBODY can see them.
@ShadowBane1235 I know bonded by blood is by Exodus just by looking at it. But I think AJFA is more progressive metal than thrash. Metallica is labeled as thrash but I don't think this album fights thrash specifically.
1:55 , not the same on the Bass Version, but i bet they can make this part as loud as rest, i liked the song without any bass bacause the riffs with bass drums got rly good. Not im not so sure anymore, but i also want uber bass on the drums starting at 1:55 to like it!
@5a1tt4m99 The only thing that sucks with this comment = this comment was made by someone else 3 weeks ago and is in the top comments so there is no way you could have missed it if you looked right below the video.
Look, we all know that the bass is hard to hear on this album. So everyone just chill out. It still doesn't change the fact that this album fucking rules!
There's bass on this album. It's just that James has so much low end thump on his guitar that you can't distinguish the two. Also, Jason pretty much follows James rhythm exactly so it's hard to tell that there is any bass. I do agree that it should be a little bit higher in the mix though. I heard that Jason wasn't there for during the mixing, so i guess thats what happens when you don't show up to the studio.
@Scoffman5150 If there's one thing that recording engineers hate, it's when a musician show up at the mixing sessions and asks to hear their own instrument louder. If Jason's bass wasn't mixed properly, it isn't because he wasn't at the mixing sessions. That isn't how it works. That being said, the bass is clearly way too low in the mix, and it must have been done that way for a specific reason, because normally, it wouldn't have been mixed that way. I wonder if anyone knows why?
What do you call that at 5:34 to 5:51 with the guitar pattern and drum pattern then you can hear the guitar patterns change, did kirk and james switch after the drum roll or something? Anyone with experience making this kind of music please enlighten me.
@therealist45acp they moved the first note a split second back to give a more on beat sound, then at 5:42 return to the original opening riff which has a palm muted string a split second before the first note is struck, moving the riff forward. but because the drums remain the same throughout, this makes the change in riff so noticeable & is is done so well due to the genius of james, same riff just different timings. 5:34 riff = 2 x 2 x 2 3 2 riff 5:42 = x 2 x 2 x 2 3 2 (x = mute)
@zkxb Bad sound engineering, could of been worse. I'v been playing bass for a long time and have a good ear for it, I can still hear it but it's definitely extremely faint, the album is still great even though the sound engineer fucked up a bit.
@KnutRudikle They had the bass turned down on purpose because at the time they really didn't want a bass player at all. Cliff Burton had just passed away and been replaced by Jason Newstead.
@TheIdiosyncracy There are a lot of explanations and rumors, true or not I'll never know unless I met the guys in person, but as a bassist it's one of the big things I look toward in an album and not hearing it is a bit disappointing for me.
@Spinner121586 it is in their, its just very quiet, listen to One and you can JUST here it, but only if your trying to here it, other wise it is almost not their
@petefaders I wouldn't like to argue with you but it's the guitar wich goes diffrent :) Well if you have it as a fact then I'll believe u =) idk if the drums go diffrent too

@MrMichaelMaggot You nailed it! Kirk's solos are mind blowing on this album. And also To Live Is To Die is, IMO, one of the greatest musical pieces in history.

@Arcturo765 Are you crazy ???????? the drumming sounds sounds badass in this album.... needs enhanced bass though i can barely notice the bass in this album
@RageUnleashed15 no im not kidding, i got the album when it first came out and after a few listens i couldn't listen to Metallica any longer, for me the album was the death of Metallica it does not come anywhere near close to topping their first 3, with all the money they have made now they should re-record it or re-do the drums and bass and produce it better
@Arcturo765 To be honest this is one of my favorite metallica album of all time dont get me wrong the first 3 were just absolutley MasteR peices, but the intensity of this album just gives me chills everytime i listen to it, by the way this is my favorite metallica song.
@RageUnleashed15 yeah for millions of fans it is their favourite but i can't listen to it, i only clicked on to see if after all these years it had grown on me, but if anything it sounds worse.
FUCK MEGADETH i hate them idk y no offens to all megadeth fans but kirk hammet is such a pimp he get more pussy than hew heffner if thts how u spell his name but metalica period is the bomb shit
@Im9002glorious thats where your wrong. i know Dave is an ass sometimes but hes a musical mastermind. you cant forget that he wrote alot of kill em all,and some of ride the lightning.also there would be no megadeth. you gotta at least respect him, who else in the world could write a masterpiece like Hangar 18,then tone it down to write a heartfelt song like Tout le Mounde. both are awesome.great to see them live on the same stage at the big 4 show.something we would never have expected to see.
there is nothing wrong with liking both megadeth and metallica, both have had their amazing albums and both has their flaus, metallicas was they strided away from thrash which some people like but i strongly disagree with, if your a die hard true metal fan you would plainly see that megadeth is the most respected of the two
Best Metallika album. and... one good. Other sucks.

@bigbaconburger17 Yeah, minus the Dave Cumstain
