I think this is one of the most overrated westerns ever. There's absolutely nothing accurate in it, from the guys who live and die at the OK Corral to Victor Mature (Samson???) as a TB ridden Doc Holliday.
I like the part in the movie where Henry Fonda comes to Tombstone and asks the marshal there "What kind of town is this that sells liquor to Indians" LOL! that applies to today as well.
QUESTION - WHO CAN TELL ME - the lyrics to Clementine in this movie - "...in gambling halls did delay, ten-thousand cattle gone astray..." I've never been able to find these lyrics on sheet music, a recording, - in film credits-credit a writer but I can't find anything on him/them - was it just for the musical score or was there a recording of this version? Have I just missed something, or not? WHO CAN TELL ME?I liked the film when I first saw it, as a young boy - I still prefer westerns.

Greatest westerns made. stagecoach,angle and the badman,the searchers,true grit,fort apache,my darling clementine,high noon,winchester 73,the cowboys,man who shot liberty valance,ok coral,nevada smith,butch cassidy-sundance kid,and the magnificent 7!!But Hey!! Thats just me!!
@ beetlejuice: this is great that it was featured in MASH, the makers of MASH must have loved that film too. Especially as they made Potter say that this was the greatest Western ever made. Just saw the episode last night.
My favorite scene...when Victor Mature as Doc Holiday, recites Shakespeare for the forgetful actor-"..the Undiscovered Country..." and Henry Fonda's look...he realizes the hidden depth of this man...John Ford, the All-Time American director...
that is a great scene...the forgetful actor was Alan Mowbray...in another character classic..did you see what that other dummy said about Victor Mature..as if Mature would care..

I saw this movie just last year. And I thought it was great. Especially for an early 1940s film.

Looks good. But Tombstone is nowhere near Monument Valley and Victor Mature looks as consumptive as a buffalo. At least Henry Fonda has a mustache.
