I picked up piano at 16 as well, and I doubted myself in my ability to improve.

Now ( at 18) I'm playing stuff I thought I never would have been able to, and just about a week ago I came across a song I did not think I was ready for... but I tried anyways and now I've got it down (I must say it felt awesome when I started to get it right :D ). Anyways... Good Luck, and don't get discouraged.

Hiya Kyle. I want your honest opinion, as you're obviously a skilled musician.

Ok I have small hands, which could possibly render piano playing to be a rather arduous task. And I'm 16 which, apparently, is too old to start learning to become a "decent" pianist.

I'm able to read music and yadayada, but honestly, is taking up piano a bad idea for me? Thank you, and keep up the excellent work :] !

well im not kylelandry but i'll give you my opinion

i started learning piano when i was 16, and i took classes w/ little 10 year olds.

its never too old. the hardest part for me was squeezing piano in w/ my busy life.

whereas a 10 year old has no busy life lol

its possible, trust me.

and for the small fingers, dont worry about them.

im 21 right now, and im a decent pianist

dont believe that "you cant teach an old dog new tricks", you most certainly can

@fr34kx5h0w It's never too late! I've always wanted to learn but had people telling me I was too old and only now when I'm 25 that I decided to take the plunge and started taking lessons. Boy, did I regret not starting earlier, it's so much fun!

If it's your dream, it's never too late to start!

@fr34kx5h0w I agree with the Vegeta guy. I started learning piano at sixteen with ten year olds too. I'd say I'm pretty good. Nothing like this but good enough and still learning.

Besides, learning most skills is a good way to spent time. Go for it.

I am 15 and have been taking drum lessons for over 7 years now and am in 3 different bands so my time is pretty booked. but i have always wanted to play piano too, and so a couple months ago I just decided i should do whatever the hell i want to do, and so i just sat on my piano and started playing. now im and so freeking happy i did that.

Hand size is fine, you just need to sometimes pick pieces that are somewhat fitting for your hand size, or you can get around the really big chords with various tricks. Don't let hand size deter you, one of my friends is quite good and she can barely hit an octave.

I think that when people say 'decent' pianist, they mean concert pianist. Starting at 16 would be kinda tough if you wanted it for your career, but that doesn't mean you couldn't just learn for fun.
