Hey if you're right about what you said at the end of review part one, that the planet will be consumed by an overflowing of water (from where? who cares! cgi, folks!) then that means 2012 would be a ready double-feature partner to precede "Waterworld". Waterworld is a great film, but most people (claim to) hate it. On the other hand, 2012 is a crappy film that apparently most people (are doomed by sensationalism to) enjoy. I am so glad I found your review on this movie. I want to say thank you for saving me $10.00 today. I was gonna go watch this today but I think I just changed my mind. I'm sure the special effects are awesome. Maybe I'll rent it when it hits redbox..... or Walmart will probably have the dvd on preorder sale for around the same price as a theater ticket.
Nah, I don't care for the actors enough to drive out to the theatre and pay my hard earned money to see it. I'll get it for a rental somewhere when it's out on dvd or wait until it hits the $5.00 discount rack at walmart.
i saw this movie this morning. the destruction was fuckin sick. this is the first time my mouth ever hung open at a movie in amazment. the acting was good. i thought the endingd could have been better, but it was still good because it restarted the same way civilization started, south africa
This movie was good for it's genre. I don't think anybody was going to this for an emotional experience or anything...people just wanted to see mass destruction, and thats exactly what it gave us. So is this movie good? I would say it accomplished what it wanted to do. entertain.
I should have ignored it too... It just seemed like no one had any brains in the movie! What made me watch this movie? The trailer. Trust me your making a good choice. The movie was cheesy! Though, the destruction parts were AWESOME!
2012 doesnt even compare to Titanic. Titanic was one of the best drama movies in history. It takes all your emotions outside. The soundtrack in Titanic is just awesome. Its a masterpiece. 2012 is just some shit action movie with useless special effects. The main character has some super natural powers or what? He always is gonna make something impossible just in time. Its more like transformers 2.
2012 is better than Titanic. Titanic takes too long to end. a 4 hour movie and there is no break time on theathers unless you want to miss a good part of the movie.
2012 is like the Noe's Arc eccept that the rich people gets to survive the flood, and people like Noe who have faith gets to die.
I think your being generous with the 100 millon dollar opening weekend. I'm going to try propably 70 millon at the most maybe 80 millon. Its just remind me of that Angelia Jolie movie a while back great cgi and promotion but no plot or storyline whatsoever.
depends on what u wanna see...i think titanic was better cause it made me care abouht what happned to the people...sure 2012 had elite efects but i dint give a shit abouht who died...they dint develop the caracters at all to make me care!
This film is a good comedy because of the unintentional hilarity that they tried to paint as seriousness. I think the actors tried to make an ok acting performance, but it was never made to be an acting/plot movie. It is, I agree, a disaster/CGI porn.
Very well done Preview Review, as well as pretty accurate! I saw 2012 yesterday and it was pretty much as you described it: CGI porn that doesn't put a whole lot of emphasis on either character or story.

BUT at least I knew everybody who liked this kind of pablum was at the movie and was off the streets SO I was happy in that, for a short time at least......

I don't care for cursey previews/reviews but at least you beeped them out. Thank you. You also did it in a way that made me giggle.. not become disgusted. I thought part 2 was more thoughtful and meaningful, and in depth. But you were right about cgi porn. Mom saw the 5 min preview and called it just that ( she's 51 so that is funny) But your right.. this does call for a matinee. But if the world does not end in 2021 the Aztec calender ends in 2027 =)
You liked Titanic? I can't stand the movie. To be honest, my favourite disaster movie has to be 'Volcano', and the best disaster scenarios can be found in the classic 60s series Thunderbirds.
God I hope you are wrong about those profit projections. If this movie truly does make double what it cost to make it then it will be a dark day indeed for our cinema future.
As much as I respect your reviews and at the same time be entertained by them, I have one thing to say ARE YOU TRIPPING BALLS?! (Titanic portion) Couldn't you use a better example like "Deep Impact," a sadly overlooked disaster movie that deserved a larger audience where most went to Armageddon, a high human casualty count, deeper understanding of characters that was there... or Armageddon at the very least?
Damm with that kind of budget couldn't they have gotten better actors. You're right , I saw this trailer at the theater and I was amazed at the CGI shots but then sad bcuz I knew it was going to be missing a believable story and character development. Get me to feel for your characters ROLAND !!! GET ME TO FEEL !!!
I love John Cusack and anything to do with the apocalypse, but I think I'm going to skip this one. This is probably going to be just like that awful TV movie 10.5, just with better special effects. That kind of superficial treatment just doesn't interest me.
Of course this movie's going to make 600 million. Even though the summer season is long dead, people HAVE to see CGI orgasms in lieu of actual movies. ;P
WE DIDN'T LISTEN!!!!!
(Good mention of Titanic. There's a REASON that movie made a billion dollars.)
Armageddon is better than this??? O_O Damn, that says something.
Personally, I refuse to see 2012. It's just such an obvious endeavor in making soulless film, that I refuse to pay money to see it. All the CGI in the world couldn't get me to see a movie with a plot I just don't care about.
TITANIC BEST DISASTER MOVIE!!, are you on drugs!! first of all its not even a disaster movie!! its about a SHIP sinkingg!!!! ALSO... it takes an hour and a half for ANYTHING to start. so get your facts strait before you talk!
YAY! You're back! I missed all the reviews. I totally agree with you, this is such CGI porn and they're advertising the heck out of it. I'm shocked that they didn't play the 3-D card with this...yet.
The problem is that people don't care about story. I heard that the new Star Trek movie (2009) was going 2 b different. But then it was changed cuz they were afraid it would confuse people. It had the birth of Spock, & some sub-plot of the Romulan commander being beaten or something.
So film makers play it safe. They keep the dialogue as simple as possible & put a lot of CGI 2 make it worth the $. A person does not want 2 leave the theater saying what a waste of money!
I really don't understand why you're calling this "the sign of the Moviepocalypse". Because, besides 1906, I haven't heard of any other disaster movie being produced over the next few years.
I saw the trailer for this in theaters and my first thought was, "God, TMPC will have a field-day with this." These movies are really made for the "what-if" factor so I personally don't fault them for not having great stories.
I think this movie is going to perform exactly the way "The Day After Tommorow" did. Not very impressive in the US but mind blowingly good overseas (freaken overseas audiences).
I predict $180 million US and $650 million overseas (don't doubt it) for a worldwide total of about $830 million.
If a movie is done right with awesome characters with great CGI and great character development and awesome story is a classic. Hey MPC do you think video games are the new movies because look at Halo 3, Gears 2, Call of Duty 4 and MW2, and pretty much all of the the good games have better stories than 94% of movies today.
Yeah I know! Adapting video games into movies is another strategy for Hollywood to suck money out of idiots. People will pay money to see Halo adapted into live action. It'll be no different than playing the video game.
The problem is that in the game, no matter how good the story is, it is never the focus, never. It's always secondary to the action. Thus, games cannot be taken in the same category as book, movies, or plays.
Plus... There ARE good movies today. The problem is, not enough people see them.
You know... This actually could be the last gasp of CGI heavy movies. Since there is so much CGI per foot on the screen, no other movies will be able to top this. In other words, everyone will look at these kinds of movies afterward and say, "Meh, it's no where near as "awesome" as 2012. It will force movie makes to do something else.
I already hate this movie. I don't want to pre judge it because no one has seen it yet, but I hate Roland Emmerich for taking a predicted event that some crazy people believe (i don't believe it at all) just so he can make money off of it.
I also hate him for making the "remake" of Godzilla!
He loves to cash in on people's fears, he made Independence Day when people were afraid of aliens, he made The Day After Tomorrow when people was afraid of global warming and he made 2012 to cash in on a horribly misinterpreted "prophecy" which isn't really a prophecy which uneducated people consider to be real.
I wasn't gonna watch this movie, but you kinda convinced me TMPC. The effects do justify a big screen viewing. Just sit there and enjoy the destruction.
I won't bother seeing this movie. The CGI is great, I'll give it that. But when I was watching the five minute clip I was more amazed by how many times the family survived all of that distruction. I found it more rediculas than exciting. And I'm usually the kind of movie lover who doesn't care to question logic in the movie. $260 million? Think of how many starving children we could've saved with that money.
I won't even bother with this movie. I mean come on it's Roland Emmerich. The same guy behind stinkers such as Stargate, Independence Day, Godzilla, The Day After Tomorow and 10,000 BC.
260 million?! Did Hollywood learn NOTHING from District 9? I have to say though, I love how depressed you sounded when you admitted that this movie would make 500-600 million dollars.
Sometimes, I think when the budget is smaller, it forces a movie to be more character-driven. Which is GOOD.
If you can get to it before April, I'm humbly requesting a preview review of the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' remake. =)
I compleatly agree with you! District 9 was a perfect show of using a budged wiseley rather than just splashing all out.
IMO, the Nightmare on Elm Street remake trailer doesn't look THAT bad. But I would still like to see TMPC review one of the trailers to see what he things.
Will this movie come before 2012? you know, there is this thing about the magnetic fields on earth changing around that year causing a possible mess with all telecommunications, so, imagine how unfortunate it would be for this movie to premiere just in time for all satellites on earth to stop working...
You no... that was just a scenario that scientist use to explain the phenomenon that where written down... now the actually possibility of a world wide shift happening suddenly on that exact date is so overwhelmingly rare that the chances of an asteroid hitting us at that time cracking the planet in 2 is more then likely... not only that it people are saying it could mean "new beginning" witch means the world will change, perhaps for the better

Lol8922 2 years ago 4
Are you kidding? Video game adaptation are just another way of giving Hollywood your movie for a piece of shit.
OnRockIT 2 years ago
Not those i mean the GAME ITSELF NOT THE MOVIE ADAPTATION!
Lol8922 2 years ago
Yeah I know! Adapting video games into movies is another strategy for Hollywood to suck money out of idiots. People will pay money to see Halo adapted into live action. It'll be no different than playing the video game.
OnRockIT 2 years ago
True, but what if its done right! Like Nolan did for Batman
Lol8922 2 years ago
Christopher Nolan didn't create Batman Begins and the Dark Knight from a video game though.
OnRockIT 2 years ago
I know, but i has to be make like he did RIGHT and Smart
Lol8922 2 years ago
The problem is that in the game, no matter how good the story is, it is never the focus, never. It's always secondary to the action. Thus, games cannot be taken in the same category as book, movies, or plays.
Plus... There ARE good movies today. The problem is, not enough people see them.

It saddens me haw people just want EXPLOSIONS!!! instead of EXPLOSIONS!! WITH AN AWESOME STORY, its just the end for movies, well for the good ones
Lol8922 2 years ago
first was the MPC intro you used to have?
also, i agree with most except Titanic. Just a cliche love story set on a boat. Overrated.
jrod112278 2 years ago
when titanic sank i saw everyone u mention saying god fucking damn it
Godzilla00X 2 years ago

Really Armageddon MPC?

Titanic is the worst highest grossing movie of all time

I'm not even gonna bother. It looks like a typical "assembly line" action movie.

I'm still not going to go and watch this movie. :)

This movie just seems uninspired and generic to me so I don't think I'll watch it.
mummra4ever 2 years ago 2
very generous thinking it may get to 500-600 million, but everything else is right on the. I would let it go to 260 -300 million

I already hate this movie. I don't want to pre judge it because no one has seen it yet, but I hate Roland Emmerich for taking a predicted event that some crazy people believe (i don't believe it at all) just so he can make money off of it.
I also hate him for making the "remake" of Godzilla!
AlexG8462 2 years ago 4
He loves to cash in on people's fears, he made Independence Day when people were afraid of aliens, he made The Day After Tomorrow when people was afraid of global warming and he made 2012 to cash in on a horribly misinterpreted "prophecy" which isn't really a prophecy which uneducated people consider to be real.

I wasn't gonna watch this movie, but you kinda convinced me TMPC. The effects do justify a big screen viewing. Just sit there and enjoy the destruction.
Rrinman 2 years ago
I won't bother seeing this movie. The CGI is great, I'll give it that. But when I was watching the five minute clip I was more amazed by how many times the family survived all of that distruction. I found it more rediculas than exciting. And I'm usually the kind of movie lover who doesn't care to question logic in the movie. $260 million? Think of how many starving children we could've saved with that money.
TomEP2 2 years ago 3
Personally I'm almost willing to bet that all the CGI destruction shown in the trailers is more or less all the CGI destruction in the movie.
thornisdan 2 years ago 3

KayPictures 2 years ago 3
I compleatly agree with you! District 9 was a perfect show of using a budged wiseley rather than just splashing all out.
IMO, the Nightmare on Elm Street remake trailer doesn't look THAT bad. But I would still like to see TMPC review one of the trailers to see what he things.

Will this movie come before 2012? you know, there is this thing about the magnetic fields on earth changing around that year causing a possible mess with all telecommunications, so, imagine how unfortunate it would be for this movie to premiere just in time for all satellites on earth to stop working...
CoolTrainerSoma 2 years ago
Um...
The movie comes out this month. That's why TMPC did a preview review of it today.
ZZDaikun 2 years ago
I see, you know, sometimes there are those trailers in my country that last a year before the movie'r release...
And you know, Hollywood likes to hype to death.
CoolTrainerSoma 2 years ago
You no... that was just a scenario that scientist use to explain the phenomenon that where written down... now the actually possibility of a world wide shift happening suddenly on that exact date is so overwhelmingly rare that the chances of an asteroid hitting us at that time cracking the planet in 2 is more then likely... not only that it people are saying it could mean "new beginning" witch means the world will change, perhaps for the better
darthmars1 2 years ago
I hope that's true, I mean, it would be just horrible when we are trying to recover from economic crisis.
