  • Once we learn to be as the tree that bends in the wind and the river that flows freely, then we can learn to be gentle as Taiji. Not only can we learn to be gentle, we can defend ourselves against attackers and actually not hurt them when warding them off from us.

  • Once we learn to be as the tree that bends in the wind and the river that flows freely, then we can learn to be gentle as Taiji.

  • I have learned in Taiji that if we resist the opposing energy used by our opponent we cannot use the opponents energy against them. We must bend like a tree in the wind, remain gentle, not rigid, allow the energy to come at us and learn to return that opposing energy in a way that we can defend ourselves and ward off the attacker. Look at the flowing river, strong, powerful, but yet ever so gentle in pushing itself where ever it sees fit.

  • the greatest things about tai chi is that it is used for "weak against strong" where you don't use strength to hit your opponent but return the strength of opponent back to him, so you don't have to have muscles or strong body... actually chinese nowadays use tai chi as a healthy practice... thats y you normally see old people practicing tai chi in the movies

  • So bad that Tai Chi, as self defense is not really spread.. I'd love to learn it..

  • this is noooooo gooooddd!

  • cool demo, btw does taichi have punches and kicks or just pushing and takedowns? thx

  • @MechPhantom It has these, though not a lot of teachers teach those these days.

  • @Niccomawf yea these days its more for just health ,a form of exercise than a martial art, still very graceful and beautiful.

  • Will you please tell me the name of this song too :)

  • @xbiomusicologyx

    Shao-lin- Shi movie

  • Well im left handen so its accually the strong one :) i have started to wonder if there exist any surprice-benefit moves for left handed martial art users? atleast i believe that attackers allways assume from right hand perespective how thei shall swing and how i may block it

  • Taijiquan doesn't teach you hot to use blocks against right or left hand, it rather teaches you a reaction of the whole body on any kind of attack. Applications are just a way to understand this concept - not a scripted guide how to fight.

  • I do love the videos but in all the tai chi apps I have found most feeders are lungey & grabby. I have been in several street fights in my youth and only once was there much pushing and grabbing and that was with an insane cousin. I would like to see tai chi apps applied to say a ghetto street fighter or boxer as I have found when randomly assaulted those were the most comon styles I and others I have spoken with incountered or the guy that tried to high school wrestle you into submition. thanx

  • wtf?! did i just hear genetal shower in one of the lines 0.0

  • Thanks

  • ive always fancied martial arts.had always been a big fan of david carradine's kung fu tv series...i use to doall those aerobics ballroom dancing but once i learned taichi from guys in Luneta Park here in Manila wow i never stopped...especially doing the sword & the fan...

  • do anybody knows that song at beginning?? thx

  • its from Jet Li's film Shaolin Temple. Its right at the beginning of the film. You can find the film here on Youtube

  • tai chi or wing chun?

  • tai chi chen-stil!!

  • does this really look like wing chun to you? duude

  • i meant to ask which system tai chi or wing chun, was more effective for self defence. was very tired when posted, sorry my mistake :)

  • Wing chun. Without a doubt. Watch some vids of wing chun. The answer will be clear.

  • @didgemonster says you i know wing chun practitioners who respect taiji.

  • AW! I am falling in love with this art! It really suits me. I always have a hard time practice with other styles. I just can't make myself hurt someone... And I hate punching kicking each other crazily when we beginners have no clue! Thai Cuc Quyen is so graceful! <3

  • I cannot believe the bonehead who dared take on a tai chi master with judo. Firstly, you need to have a certain mastery of the art in order to apply it in combat situations. Secondly, tai chi like many martial arts before modern ones, like, judo or jujitsu, was intended for a battlefield. In a battlefield the advantage of tai chi is seen in a senario of one versus many. Judo is fine for one on one fights but last thing you want when a hundred soldiers surround you is to be on the ground.

  • That was amazing............

  • And by the way they were also meant to stay away from fighting or kill and not to compete. Most of MMA champions will be long dead before they even get what happened. But in the cage with rules and restrictions who knows what would happened. Im sure none of the masters would ever agree to fight on the ring.

  • Pay-per-view tyype MMA tournaments was intended for white-trash meatheads to glorify their lust for savagery. Their existences is an offences to Eastern martial arts. This is exactly why they didn't want Bruce Lee teaching the arts to Caucasians....sigh.

  • Auctually I would love to see a Tai Chi master just tear apart these clumsy MMA guys.

Simple fact is your best heavy weight fighters are these muscle bound monsters who do a simple ground and pound technique.

Now if you want style Andrew Silva is awesome!

Beyond that, we dont usually see spectacular martial arts displayed in MMA mostly just clumsy ground pound stuff.

Makes you think that there are no real masters out there anymore. If so why dont they appear and challenge in UFC.

  • That's because the real experts in (tradicitional) martial arts earn their living as bodyguards, police instructors and the like. Asian mobsters also train themselves in traditional martial arts. That's because they know well what violence is all about. Their intent is being able to take vicious attacks (much to often with bladed weapons) and survive, not doing sports fighting (no matter how violent) ... And there is so much broken glass'n rocks about on the ground. Ouch!

  • It has nothing to do with Caucasians. Stop posing.

  • dear SoldierCyfix,

I also never see a taichi person real fight other

    fighting style..

but last month i saw on tv(history channel- entitled Human Weapon), that in the past 13 shaolin monks have defeated 3000 soldiers from other area of china who came to attack shaolin.

the 13 shaolin monks just discovered tai-chi and used it in war...and this was the beginning of the popularity of shaolin kungfu..as reported by tv show.

  • i think tai-chi main principle similar to aikido...isnt it? correct me if i wrong

  • yes ,non resistance plays a big role within these two great arts

  • it would never work against a ...real fighting style.

  • how little u know!

  • tai chi is a meditative art, its not for fighting. he leaves himself open, thats not something you do in a fight.

  • tai chi is far from being only a meditative art!!

it was originally designed for fighting, health was a by product

its became so popular that many use it for only health only but thats martialy waterered down,a burger is not fillet steak

again how little u seem to know

  • whatever you say, you still cant prove my point wrong. i have never seen a real fight (competition or otherwise) when someone used tai chi. and all these youtube vids show is constructed fights "set up"

in conclusion tai chi cant beat ANY other fighting style.

but i would gladly admit that am wrong if you show me a real fight in witch a tai chi user defeated someone else using some other style; and by using only tai chi .

  • how do u want me to prove your point wrong by a youtube video?!

    come on!!!

have u ever heard of fajin?

its the name for explosive power used in tai chi striking.

if u get hit full on by a tai chi master its the same as getting hit by a master of other arts

CHEN style tai chi is extremly martial with lots of speed and power!!

nothings absoulute, like one style beat another style, its what one does with it

    fajin style striking is effective

  • i dont need to prove any thing wrong

u clearly have a very limited misunderstanding what TAI CHI ACUALLY IS,so your not qualified to comment

how many hours a day do u train in your martial art?

  • i train in judo every week end and work out every day, i also am good at TKD.

this dancing martial art just wont do in a real fight.

i have yet to see it being used seriously, and not just in demonstrations. but am very confident that a mere street fighter punching wildly would manage to beat some one dancing this

capriola seems more offensive than this

  • so how many hours a WEEK do u train?

    ..4?

  • i dont know what you point is and why i have to answer to you, but the answer is 10 to 12 hours per week on average

  • Good martial art eventually becomes a flawless dance, Practice it for 20 years and you will see yourself :)

  • I agree that most tai chi practitioners haven't a clue how to fight, but those that train in its applications would trash boxers and the like. This guy knows his stuff, but doesn't seem to execute them beautifully it looks more scrappy. If you want to look at a real tai chi master and its application look at someone like Jet li!

  • Tai chi is not really about applications it's about change, sensitivity, and reaction. There many great martial arts where people can learn how to fight. Taijiquan represents its own particular way of fighting. Some people like it, some people don't.

After all in real fight dominates not particular martial art, but skill of particular fighter..

  • great post

  • It looks scrapy because he is actually applying it. Jet li is Choreographed and thus looks better. There is no Martial art even ones as beautiful as Tai chi that looks great while actually applying it. The difference here is that he is applying pressure where it is actually needed in order for the forms to work. His partner isn't really resisting as much as he should though.

  • Jet Li is a good kungfu master but he does not specialise in Taiji. So he is not the right person to watch if you are talking about taiji.

  • @SoldierCyfix I do judo every week too. but dude you've go no idea. Mas Oyama - the karate legend went on a world tour in his lifetime defeated 200 something martial artists around the world- *Clean Record*- except by this one TaiChi old man in China in his 70's. Mas's hard force style was pointless against him, everything got absorbed or reflected back at Mas, Mas tired out of energy and dropped to the floor in the end, this later inspired Mas to incorporate circular movments in kyokushinkarate

  • @lezmos Please repeat that. It bears repeating. It's about how many hours you train.

  • Know the history of the martial art if you want to understand its rationale.

  • @SoldierCyfix funny how internal stylists beat the japanese more than other styles during the sino japanese war and there are more internal chinese schools in japan than the others. in fact the japanese scoff most of the external styles and have such high respect for taiji xing yi bagua and taiji. ps. taiji has more documentation than most other chinese styles.

  • @cfG21 The legendary grandmaster of "Five Ancestors Fist" who's based in Malaysia, youtube him here, he past away couple of year ago, he was recognized by chinese government and the chinese martial arts world as a gifted fighter in the 20th century, he used internal Chinese styles during sino japanese war and fought off tons and tons of japanese soldiers and saved a town. Real example of application of internal chinese arts in war scenarios.

  • awesome ! is there any school in london ?

  • Buenas tecnicas, siempre quise ver aplicaciones de Tai Chi

  • From Jet Li's movie: "Shaolin Temple"

  • decent vid. nice techniques, good to see chens doing self defence instead of reeling silk and form all the time.

  • Sounds like Soviet propaganda music. Nice video anyway.

  • The thing I like about taichi is that you don't have to really strike your opponent unless you're in total danger of loosing your life

  • very good! good instructional tool & I also like the music : "♪♫sor-ry♪♫", as he trips the other up LOL!
