Biologists are finding that species are more strongly cooperative than competitive. They work for mutual support. Certainly there can be competition for food or resources, but most animals (humans included) appear to have evolved stronger cooperative behavior -- for mutual survival. Think of all those bacteria living in our gut--we wouldn't be alive without them!
Perhaps instead of all taking sides and attempting to force others to "believe as I do", we need to encourage tolerance and diversity. So long as what we believe does not harm others (including the more-than-humans), it accords with the way the natural world works -- a rich diversity of life forms adapted to different ecologies.
for a moral basis to underly all faiths and belief systems we need to know under whos comand or authority. who says what is moral and what is not? is there an inteligent creator or not ? if random chance governs our very existance then it dose not matter ! there is no hope and no morals.if an inteligent creator formed the earth and all that is on it, then that force whould have created with purpose and also have right to authority.
have not seen the whole series yet but this one was particularly interesting.
Learning from Cuba's Response to Peak Oil .
if we are all to be the keeps of gods green earth do you have any other documentys lined up to tackle religion and how to unite them all with the creator.? it is imortant issue to find true answeres to these questions.
where did we come from ?
what is the purpose of life ? and what does the futre hold?
A fine thought: how do we come to a moral basis underlying every religion or belief system that leads us to NOT destroy the earth? What change in beliefs will change our behavior?
I've been expecting an economic downturn due to peak oil and a crashing dollar, for several years now. That's why I quit fixing 18 wheelers and RV's and became a transit bus mechanic. Before we settle into a post peak oil period we'll probably see some lean periods where hunger will be a danger. I'd like to see peak oil strategies discussed that involve storing a year of food and maybe some ways to protect whatever savings we may still have left after 8 years of bush. I'm doing silver and gold.
I'm greatly enjoying the community building, relocalization, simplicity, and food growing aspects of your show but I'm also interested in preparedness which is one of the topics listed in the list of goals for your show. Yes I'm a left wing democrat but I also believe in storing a full year of food and keeping basic supplies like water purification kits, emergency shelter, cold weather gear and emergency bug-out kits. I'd love to see that covered too.
I think a certain amount of storing supplies of food and emergency gear is common sense for bad weather and other common emergencies. I think alot of others consider gardening, community trade, local water & energy production as true prepardness that would last eternity and be useful with or without an emergency. I think it is more important that we have those skills that will last forever.
Gobbily Gook? What in the hell did they just say? I guess it's a religion?
The commune doesnt work because Humans, like the rest of the animal kingdom is competitive. Sobering huh?
