What I hate is that they act like they are nihilists by incorporating popular misconceptions of nihilism into their music videos (the clothing and hair), so people will see this and think "aw man im so cool listening to this song im a nihilist i dont give a fuck". "Are they not describing a way of life a nihilistic outlook might bring about?" Not really...

Obviously there's different philosophic takes on but one is that where everything loses all meaning, and the individual loses all purpose. That's what I think the song's talking about. 'Walking a path of self destruction, and I'm not afraid of the reprecussions... Nihilist feelings are moving, and I try real hard, I'll see right through them.'

@FuuuckOffff become prominent in today's culture, when nihilism isn't about that, it's about freedom from the fictitious creations of man (god) and from one's own weakness. Either way this song is just reinforcing the stereotypes of nihilists, which, upon reflection, I don't really care about. Perhaps one day the world will become nihilistic, when "God is dead" and philosophers employ reason, the supermen of today can be freed from the creations of lesser men.

@adamprocks761 It's an interesting notion, and I do think nihilism (and existentialism to an extent) are excellent philosophies. Nietzsche is a fascinating character as well, but in all honestly I probably wouldn't have heard of them if it wasn't for punk rock bands like Rancid that reference them. So perhaps that's a positive to take out of it, even if it is a simplistic representation of the philosophy.

Nihilism is a viewpoint that traditional values and beliefs are unfounded and that existence is senseless and useless.
