I have to commend you on this video! Bought the t-conn part for $98 on ebay and purchased 2 grounding bands ($3.99 each) from Amazon. My husband and I followed the video diligently.There was only one part that seemed to be missing - removing the tiny screws off the plate (located on top of the t-conn board). Once we figured it out, we continued. Hardest part was the small screw on the side. Changed the board, put the screws back on and.... THE TV WORKED PERFECTLY! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Hey, my westinghouse had this similar problem. I replaced the tcon but it didnt fix the problem. You can tell the backlight is on but no pic, jus sound.

Samsung is bad quality and the resellers are also of bad quality . I had purchased one lcd tv was broken,took it back and after a serious fight, they gave me another not perfect and never watched tv again .pc or mac best solution for me,hope apple produces the tv set they are planning bad business should be getting "broken knees".
By the way everybody-- The guy doing this video may have unintentionally been using one hand while fixing his television but using only one hand is A GOOD IDEA. Using your dominant hand and placing your non-dominant hand in your pocket can help prevent electrical shock from reaching your heart. Using rubber gloves is helpful also.
@PhattyMo Do you really need a grounding strap for this? With such high voltage able to run through a TV aren't you better off just wearing rubber gloves and waiting a few hours after you unplug before you begin making the repair?
@MissSamanthaRex If you're careful about static charges you can get away without a ground strap for a lot of electronics work..It's still a good idea to use one though. My previous comment about adding a high-value resistor was for exactly the reason you mention. If you DO happen to come across some kind of voltage while working on the set,the resistor would limit the amount of current that can flow,thus keeping you (relatively) safe.

How do you know if a T-Con card is bad? Besides a faulty TV, is there a way to test that the T-Con card is the problem. Some people on youtube and the web are calling it a logic board but I believe the main board is also called a main logic board although printing on a Westinghouse main is just called "MAIN BD" adding to confusion. My Westinghouse has no pic but sound is on, there is no blown anything on either card as far as I can see.

One simple solution. Don´t buy Samsung again. Their quality is just crap no matter how expensive the product are. Samsung spend more money into design rather then to actual quality. Behind the nice look you will find the cheapest crap electronics that will last no more than three years at top.

@arturo090974 More than likely it has to do with a problem with the inverter board. Many of them are made by Darfon. Take a flashlight and shine it to the tv, if you can see the picture, it is probably the inverter board or the lamps. If you are feeling brave you can take out the board and visually inspect it, and replace any components that may be damaged.
@dishonestApparel GREAT video. Can you tell how did you get the serial numbar of the T-con card you changed??. I have a Samsung LN46A650A1F with image and sound but the screen is dark. Everything is built this way today, I have been fixing stuff for many years. Used to be you bought a tv and it lasted 20+ years. VCR's also lasted for many years but then they started using more and more plastic parts in them. I hated working on them because they would break. We would use super glue to fix the plastic parts that broke. As we say in the repair business "they are finding cheaper ways to make things cheaper".
Hey folks, if you have been given the onetime Samsung courtesy visit to replace the capacitors it ain't over yet folks. You will soon experience the power on power off issue again. The only solution is a new mother board. Geek Squad does it for a total cost of $380.00 and the problem goes away. There is also an issue with the touch panel controls on the front lower right side of your screen...this also can cause it. Samsung sucks. Join the class action lawsuit in Tulsa Oklahoma!
Put a large value resistor in series with your "ground strap". Having a direct connection to the chassis is rather unsafe,if you were to come into contact with some kind of voltage.
@PhattyMo Hell yes! Buy a decent ground strap. They only cost $5. They have a one meg resistor in series to keep you from being electrocuted. You might also get a capacitor problem with the set but I would not worry unless you get new weird symptoms. And for that many bazoos that you paid for it I would fix it again. Unlike the board the caps should be under $20. Good job!
hey man nice vid but i got a question. my picture went black yesterday but when i turn the tv on the picture will flicker on and off a few times before just staying off. i managed to change my backlight setting to 0 and the picture stays on. if i set it up to 1 or 2 it goes off again. its a 40inch series 5 lcd samsung about 2 yrs old. i kno you're not a tv repairman but whats your opinion. i've read that it could be t-con card, power supply, panel, bad caps, etc. think the t-conn is most likely?
@NotoriousHP Do the good old flash light trick, when it the TV goes dark, if you can see a picture it is probably not the t-conn card. Usually bad caps, or inverter. You can get a replacement board or attempt to fix it yourself. The card will usually have a pink and white cables that connect to the lamps.

Was this a permanent fix? I had the same issue (sound, no picture) and I replaced my t-con card. It is working far more consistently, but the problem still periodically exists. So perplexed.
Shame on samsung I am also disappointed. after 2 years I have issues with the TV not truning on only after 8 clicks.. Not like my old sony that I sold after 5 years and was working fine.
All I had to do to fix mine was to connect the hicky dodger to the new thing a my jig and then reconnected all the red to blue wires and just plug it into the wall and Bingo!!

why replace the tcon board, 99% of the time a small fuse label with t, k or o blows 6.3a 125v smd just grab a soldering iron get max hot some solder, get an old resistor or piece of wire and jump the fuse i charge people $125 for this total cost for me 1 penny.
Both boards went on my 3 year old Samsung and yeah, I was pissed, but this video was a lifesaver. I bought both boards on Ebay (new) searching by part number. I can't say taking the back of the tv off was easy, but once off, the boards were relatively easy to replace. It's like a brand new tv. Shame on Samsung for forcing me to resort to YouTube to find out how to repair without spending a fortune. The boards were $75 ea.

sup man i have a 32'' westinghouse lcd tv and frecently the screen will g blank and the sound too but the tv power will stay on it does not go in standby mode. and it wll not come back on till i rest it for about a week or so. it will work fine for ablout a month if am lucky then will go out again. what do you think?

There aren't many forms of recourse for a cracked screen.
1. Buy a new replacement panel, whose cost will likely be higher than the price your broken HDTV sold for when it was brand spankin' new.
2. Find a used intact panel of the same type used in your HDTV, which you may not be able to find unless you're patient, lucky or both.
3. Buy a replacement HDTV. This is perhaps the most prudent way to go.

Take a small philips head bit from a screw gun and lock it into your needle nose vice grip, that will give you a right angle screw driver.

The only solution is a new mother board. Geek Squad does it for a total cost of $380.00 and the problem goes away. There is also an issue with the touch panel controls on the front lower right side of your screen...this also can cause it. Samsung sucks. Join the class action lawsuit in Tulsa Oklahoma!

Put a large value resistor in series with your "ground strap". Having a direct connection to the chassis is rather unsafe,if you were to come into contact with some kind of voltage.

@PhattyMo Hell yes! Buy a decent ground strap. They only cost $5. They have a one meg resistor in series to keep you from being electrocuted. You might also get a capacitor problem with the set but I would not worry unless you get new weird symptoms. And for that many bazoos that you paid for it I would fix it again. Unlike the board the caps should be under $20. Good job!

hey man nice vid but i got a question. my picture went black yesterday but when i turn the tv on the picture will flicker on and off a few times before just staying off. i managed to change my backlight setting to 0 and the picture stays on. if i set it up to 1 or 2 it goes off again. its a 40inch series 5 lcd samsung about 2 yrs old. i kno you're not a tv repairman but whats your opinion. i've read that it could be t-con card, power supply, panel, bad caps, etc. think the t-conn is most likely?

@NotoriousHP Do the good old flash light trick, when it the TV goes dark, if you can see a picture it is probably not the t-conn card. Usually bad caps, or inverter. You can get a replacement board or attempt to fix it yourself. The card will usually have a pink and white cables that connect to the lamps.

Was this a permanent fix? I had the same issue (sound, no picture) and I replaced my t-con card. It is working far more consistently, but the problem still periodically exists. So perplexed.

All I had to do to fix mine was to connect the hicky dodger to the new thing a my jig and then reconnected all the red to blue wires and just plug it into the wall and Bingo!!

why replace the tcon board, 99% of the time a small fuse label with t, k or o blows 6.3a 125v smd just grab a soldering iron get max hot some solder, get an old resistor or piece of wire and jump the fuse i charge people $125 for this total cost for me 1 penny.

Both boards went on my 3 year old Samsung and yeah, I was pissed, but this video was a lifesaver. I bought both boards on Ebay (new) searching by part number. I can't say taking the back of the tv off was easy, but once off, the boards were relatively easy to replace. It's like a brand new tv. Shame on Samsung for forcing me to resort to YouTube to find out how to repair without spending a fortune. The boards were $75 ea.

Thanks you so much DA...had the same prob watched your vid, sourced a replacement board for £18, fitted it in my 32" Samsung LCD and it sprung back to life. I would recommend that anyone with the same prob give this a go, just make sure your replacement board is the same as the fried one. Thank you agaon DA :)

As a novice to electronics/LCD TVs and reluctant on paying for a new TV/Engineer, I'd like to say many thanks for the video/tutorial, which has helped identify my Samsung black screen problem. I'm awaiting a TCON card (£15 from ebay). As I have two identical Samsungs, I was able to test successfully with the second (working) card and fix a handful of bulging capacitors on the power board at the same time and eliminate inverter problems. Fantastic stuff!

sup man i have a 32'' westinghouse lcd tv and frecently the screen will g blank and the sound too but the tv power will stay on it does not go in standby mode. and it wll not come back on till i rest it for about a week or so. it will work fine for ablout a month if am lucky then will go out again. what do you think?

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I purchased the part at on line for under $100. Shamsung's website is nice and it said I needed a tech. Called Shamsung and they scheduled a tech for me. I'm still waiting for the call. Thanks to you my TV is working.
