I, for one, do not care in the slightest. iPhone OS was innovative 2 years ago. Compared to the Microsoft Courier, Google Android, and Microsoft Phone 7 Series, iPhone OS now seems to lack functionality, while the UI has become stale. The iPhone OS 4.0 is coming out in June, and multitasking is rumored to be a part of it. Flash is on its way out anyway, look it up. There is nothing wrong with a big iPod touch, and all of your complaints apply to the iPod touch as well, so why did you buy one of those? Big whoop, no USB, its not meant to be exactly like a laptop, if you want a laptop, buy one.

Multitasking will not be a part of it. By making multitasking a part of the system, every developer of apps would have to modify their apps to work together with multitasking. At this point, apples glorified app store is working against innovation. Flash is certainly on its way out, but it will be years before flash is erased from the web. And as for usb, Apple could have easily slapped USB on, but unfortunately Apple works only with proprietary hardware. USB should be a must.

Things I want for the ipad (and why)

-multitasking

at school I am going to want to use it as a textbook and in order to properly use it at school I am going to need to be able to view PDF files and take notes, or be able to view PDF files and a textbook at the same time while doing homework. I was super pumped about the release, and then had a few days to think about it. I think multitasking is the make or break for me because I must be able to do these things at the same time.

An iPhone is useful because its advantages come at no cost to carry around.

An iPad requires a bag, shoulder pouch, or backpack to carry. Only, any of these could also carry a notebook at no extra cost in terms of carrying it. 1lbs vs 3lbs is not an issue once you have to lug around a container.

So.. for no extra cost, you could have a DVD player, larger screen, more software, more memory, etc.

Like a notepad vs. a clipboard vs. a binder. One does alot, one is small, one is neither.

Not putting anyones name on blast but the only reasons for not getting a Mac is if you can't afford it(not trying to insult anyone, it's just the sad truth), or if you want to game on your computer.

Want windows? Boot camp.

Multitouch gestures? Mac or just deal without having it.

Macs are much worse than Windows PC's. There is absolutely nothing you can do better on a Mac than a PC, and there are plenty of things a Windows can do that a Mac can't. Also, Windows PC's cheaper, have better UI's, and are more aesthetically pleasing. Then again, those last two are just opinions.

Lack of flash and multitasking still keeps me at bay. However, YouTube is already moving towards HTML5 (haven't been able to try the beta, as I use Firefox). Since it supports Safari, I guess watching YouTube videos might be possible on the iPad, which will help it a lot. Multitasking is still an issue, though. I use MSN Messenger while simultaneously browsing the web practically all the time. I can't imagine not having that option.

It's not supposed to replace anything, more a case of augmenting what we already use and have. It's not really supposed to be able to multitask like a full blown OS because it's not a for factor that makes that experience all that great. It can multitask by the way, just not in the way you do on a desktop OS when you have several apps open doing their thing at once that you can swap between. App developers have gotten pretty good at saving states so it's almost at that point anyway in a sense.
