A real review that's also informational, straight forward and goes beyond what others do (how to open the box) -by talking a bit about how to set up with other drives- How it actually functions. THANK YOU
Thank you for a great review. I'm currently running a Macbook Pro, set to tri-boot Win7, OSX and Backtrack4 (Linux), Can the drobo back up each OS individually or must it be set as one particular format.
Also, did you obtain this device as a review model?
is there really a meaning for these anymore? cause i read that ssd drives have a very long lifespan compared to hdds which i guess was the main reason backup drives were invented atleast for home systems
Dave i have backed up all my drives with Time Machine because i want to change the internal drive of my Macbook. Do you know how to get the files back onto the new INTERNAL drive after i install it?
I'm scared of RAID. It sounds too complicated. And I've no idea how to set up raid. So for now, it just gonna be "buy an external hard disk and connect it via USB" for me.
@adamsbil1 I used a two disk RAID for recording/editing, then back up completed videos to an external RAID (Synology) and completed movies to another RAID (Netgear).
Hi Dave Ggreat review. I am going to get a nas next year because I have a mac pro and am considering the drobo but I would like to use it for time machine so was wandering about 2 things.
Do you have to use the raid or can you use the entire 10TB capacity without raid?
Can I restore even a single file from Drobo, using classic windows copy feature ?
If I put a disk into pc, is it readable ?
Thanks

@beeqool Totally, this protects against hard drive failure, essential if you produce a lot of data like myself or many businesses.

@Appleaddict22 Yes, when you set up the new drive, install Mac OSX, then you are given the option to restore from a Time Machine backup.

Nice Dave, but yea as some others have said a bit pricey.

Does it work with time machine?
Thanks again Dave for a great review.
PhilipOConnell 1 year ago
@PhilipOConnell You have to use the RAID and can choose between 1 or 2 disk redundancy (or safety net). Yes, it works with Time Machine too.
