@yako165 no. seriously what faggot composer models an entire piece after the mannerisms of his friends? pretentious much? the whole thing is so contrived and disgustingly purposefully eloquent. what a fag!
@Hamgammy That's pretty good... when Elgar is a pretentious fag, he creates timeless works of art lol is that what you're saying? You can't really say anything about the piece, because it belongs to so many performers and listeners that you're insulting an unstoppable mob. Good luck with life.
@jeffamarie well Terrence Mallick is a pretentious fag and he has created timeless works of art in the opinions of many. It's all based on opinion really. Frankly I think Mozart sucks, save the Jupiter Symphony. I hold Wagner and Beethoven in the highest regard though.
@Hamgammy Well, you can't succeed unless you have confidence in your work, and a lot of people who are in a position to be easily jealous often mistake that confidence for pretentiousness. Wagner and Beethoven are great, but so is every other composer that millions of people have loved, by virtue of the number of people they've inspired. The greatest art isn't the object or sound itself, it's the resonance to people long after the artist is gone.
Nimrod is wonderful, but I always have to listen to the one before (WN) first, and that lovely moment with the violins playing a single note and moving from one portait to another :)
nimrod is just so beautiful. it's the only one in this that can make me cry and give me chills and clear my head. i wish i could listen to it all day, everyday
i would bet 20 bucks that this is the london symphony. my director played their version of just Nimrod for us and it sounds IDENTICAL. that's just my two cents...
Bless your heart for posting the Enigma. :) I haven't heard it for years. I can't fetch it easily from my LP collection. And I'm not re-investing time and money to get CDs when I can hear almost everything I love here on good old youtube! Cheers olde chap! One section of Enigma was used in a commercial by an investment business years ago. :)
LIKE very much indeed... Well I love it actually, all the pieces bring so much enjoyment... Nimrod always reminds me of the Cenotaph and the Guards band on a cold November Sunday... Stunningly beautiful, all the versions.. I am enraptured and very grateful to you @LindoroRossini, for posting these wonders on here... Many thanks indeed from Wales UK :0)x
LindoroRossini -- While I certainly can understand your preference for the preceding variation, I can only say that I have always been very moved by Nimrod and that, were I memorialized in such a piece of music, I would consider myself to have been honored above all manner of awards. I also absolutely love the following variation, Dorabella, which is so utterly charming that I often wish I could have met the girl...
premiered in 1899 Elgar´s enigma variations is a piece which the theme from where it comes from is unknown, not so the names of the initials or nicknames that each of them have , they belong to some od the author´s friends
Elgar apparently improvised the theme, which is an original composition and doesn't come from anywhere else, although he is said to have referenced a well-known melody with it. One of the best suggestiions I have heard is "Hail, Britannia!", specifically the phrase that goes "Britons never, never, never shall be slaves!"
One person is just jealous that THEY didn't get a variation written about them.

In my opinion, Variation No. 12 is the best of all the variations. I love the intenseness and especially love the ending.
