The gripen has one of the lowest running costs of any fighter in the sky they are also one of the few planes to be built on budget. The updated Gripen has a longer range and inflight refueling but then again it was designed to protect Swedish airspace not any other coutnry. This jet fills the role that it was built for to a tee. I have much respect for these Grippen because it was design by the Sweeden, they draw and design their own copy, not copied from other air craft.the J10 is the nice little copy of everything including this beautiful Grippen.

Sweden, developed by SAAB (SAAB Automobile is no longer related to SAAB except the name). Sweden, Czech, Hungary, Thailand and South Africa uses JAS 39 Gripen. (British RAF has a few for training purpose as well)

Sweden is trying to sell gripen to Brazil, but, Brazil have some othe offerts from USA and France to buy fight airplanes from these countries. According the press, Saab is offering Grippen for half price to Brazil buy them . Grippen is an excellent airframe, it may have some degree of radar cross section reduction, but it is by no means a Gen-5 stealth aircraft. It's a Gen-4.5 with the ability to operate under austere conditions deployed from forward improvised airstrips. Empahsis is on maintainability, STOL, Manuverability, and Flexibility.

It would definately give an F-16, F-18 and possibly an F-15 a bad day; but wouldn't have a chance in hell against a Raptor.

Gripen is one of the cheapest fighters and its ranked 3rd best in the world so its not expensive! Sure it costs alot but not compared to a f22 or f35!
