BF3: how to fire a weapon and increase your accuracy

Hey Xfactor, i have a few questions: In many pro scrims i see the guys mostly firing in fully automatic instead of bursting - even in midrange situations. it seems they just move down the mouse slightly while they're firing to manage the recoil. What do you think about it and is burst firing just needed in long range situations (because of the bullet spread)?

the m16a3 is a beautiful gun. its the only weapon ive found that is equally effective at all ranges. the problem i have with it is that in the spawn menu, it swaps its weapomn slot with the aks-74u meaning i have to pick the russian aqcuired version if im playing as russians. is there anyway to prevent this so that i always have it in the assault class, whether im US or RU?

Check your weapons bullet mode. On many HMGs you get 3 modes single, burst, and full auto. Using bust will do what is described above for you. Single bullet mode will give you dead accurate shots but only one bullet at a time. So many players just don't realise what features the game has.

@Lazagnje It is one of the last unlocks for each weapon, so on a russian gun you can unlock the US RDS at ~300 kills or so.

This is good stuff, but watching some of your in-game footage (e.g. on rivalBeast), seems to me that your guys don't actually burst fire that much! Even at range, I was surprised at how long the busts were. How the hell do you do that - are you just continually cancelling out the recoil with aiming corrections?

@Studmaster1994 when firing long bursts (not recommended) like, say with an LMG like the M249, the recoil is WAY up to the far right, so use your right stick, and slightly push it in the opposite direction. Once you get it right, most weapons should be dead accurate when firing full auto :P it makes it seem like there isn't any recoil. it really depends on the weapon you are using.

@Studmaster1994 As you burst, pull down on the aiming joystick. Its goes in this order 1. Burst 2. Tug down. With this you dont have to wait for the your aiming to reset, you're forcing it to reset faster then it would. Its kinda hard to do at first, but with practice you will get it.

i love single shot firing mode for long range. lot less recoil than trying to tap out one bullet at a time in full auto mode. i'm sure I surprise snipers i kill at long range with it.

and yea, make sure you pull slightly down while full auto to control the recoil a bit.

@Remymail The nerf hasn't come out yet. It's planned for about February with all of the attachment rebalancing. I'd love to see a new video focusing on the pros and cons of the new attachment modifiers.

@Remymail I am. It's still not concrete whether or not or how much the suppressor will be nerfed. Also, attachments will have different traits on different guns, so you'll have to watch for that. Perhaps DICE will only buff the flash suppressor and heavy barrel or perhaps they'll change the suppressor around as well.

I may continue using the suppressor under certain conditions post-patch. It's definitely useful for concealing your position where it may be detrimental not to use it.

i am wondering why you use the m16a3? I've noticed a few really high leveled, experienced players using it, one had a kd of over 4 and like 20m points :O but he looked like he was in like a professional clan that was sponsored by proper companies like western digital. I never thought of it to be a good gun and i was wondering if high level competitions and such limit players to the base weapons? ... or is it just a good gun?

@andrewp303 its the most efficient assault rifle. It isn't always about which is the "best" gun but what suits the each map. The M16A3 is very strong and also shoots faster than some other assault rifles. The recoil isn't bad either. In my opinion it is the best assault rifle. I have 3000 M416 kills and 5500 M16A3 and I can say that the M16 is much better all round. However, I do know some other people that have like 6000 M416 kills and say it is the best.

I cant stress enough on sticking with a weapon. They all have their own feel, mainly rpm and recoil. If you stick with a weapon, you will do tons better. It is like a car with a bad door. Everyone who rides with the driver hates it but that driver doesn't care because that driver knows how to deal with it. Know your gun, know your self and know your enemy, and you will kill a thousand people.

@dani41396 Always aim at upper chest lower chin. This allows for your 2nd or 3rd shot to usually hit the head. Remember the gun has an upper right recoil. Chest is full damage and head is double damage. Developers are about to rebalance attachments so all the guns will possibly shoot differently Again.

The recoil perfectly jumped from body to head and all you needed was one body and one head to drop someone with the old scar.

1.I play the same class as you with the same stuff on but I dont know what is the most demage place on an enemy?Head,Chest,Balls?

2.I didnt understand where do I shoot at long range

Example: I see an enemy and he runs to the left how do I shoot him?With 3 round burst and leave the gun or I need to move it down left etc....

@MrDoefke i use the suppressor a lot... Probably around 50 percent of the time.  The other 50 percent I use the laser sight :)

The suppressor is great for hiding you on the minimap when you are firing. This allows you to get a few more kills and perhaps breach a team easier.

@rivaLxfactor I meant hit registration in a sense of the detection, sorry. What I mean is when you hit your enemy do you always get the hit marker or not. Does the enemy always take the damage when you hit them. I ask cuz I play on xbox and the hit detection is awful and was hoping it would get better once we get the patch PC'ers got early this month. I'm sorry Rival, but the reason why there aren't a larger number of visible bullet holes is because for every two bullets that hit a surface, only one bullet hole is visible.

A right handed soldier's recoil will always go up and right. I'm left handed, so my shots on fully auto go up and to the left. I'm an Army Vet who carried an M9, M4A1, M249, and a M240B is the gunner seat of my HMMWV.!

Of course, every time u spawn in BF3, u'll be a right handed soldier so its a useless piece of info...

I have some health issues with colors and even using the color blind option (it's better when it comes to identify enemies), I still have some problems to understand the mini-map. @ancientbrandubh when u press N the minimap changes what you see, from only your surroundings zoomed in to a zoomed out view, pretty helpfull. Also  the minimap might get fucked by graphics settings (??) not sure bout that tho.

@kazm1936 Thanks for the tip. I try to do that, however, when I did the zoom on BF2 I actualy could 'read' the map. Now, in BF3, when I do that, the colors are so confuse for me that I mix them. I can't spend so much time to look to the map or I'll be killed in the game. I was just thinking that could be some kind of option in the game that I haven't found, that could change colors in the map.

Maybe even pick a couple of your favorite guns. explain why they are your favorite: some of the characteristics that make them good, and also the situations in which they are most useful. Show examples in game like this and in multiplayer games. A lot of us don't play enough to get a feel for each weapon and decide which is best for different situations.
