This netbook was in 2007. I waited for me i only costed 129.99. One gb ram 4 gb ssd and 8.9 inch display. With 900 mhz processor. My battery life is about 4.5 hours 4 cell battery.
I thought i had accomplished something by running OS X leopard and windows 7 on my 1.6ghz 8.9 inch acer aspire one. You sire, have 1-up'd me big time by running vister on a 900mhz eee pc.
@earthling10 Yeah, contrary to popular belief, not all SSD's are fast. The cheap 16gb ones can be slower than HDD's. In addition, 1gb of ram definitely isn't much for vista. It can technically run on 256mb, but if you try to run any programs you'll get a BSOD. I have 1gb in my netbook, and the OS and the background programs like frostwire can bring it up to around 900mb in windows 7: which is less ram hungry than vista.
I wouldnt reccomend you do this because if they put it on windows xp there has to be a reason, i had the ASUS eee pc 701 and i put windows xp on it and that just ruined the laptop, it wont charge properly, the colours vary sometimes & the laptop switches off & it doesnt even turn on sometimes it just stays at the "Asus EEE PC" thing when you start it. But you put windows vista on there i gaurantee you will have problems later on.
hey guys this is all the os's ive run on my acer aspire one since i bought it in january : windows xp home(sucked) windows 7 rc(was good but i kept getting the bsod) vista home premium lite (SUCKED MIGHTY BALLS!) vista ultimate (ran fine but i used a shit activator and got hal.dll problem) xp media center (sucked) ubuntu 904(was the shittest os i ever saw) and now im running vista home basic (ok so far) now im tied between buying vista ultimate, w7 ultimate or w7 home premium what u thnk i get?
No it is not fine running it just to do those tasks you are going to burn your cpu if you use it alot for that. Vista home basic will be fine nothing higher
Yes it was installed on my Acer Extensa but i can't run my WIndows Software for Internet it is very good aber for Software not really. I find Vista better its my option ^^
allvetarN2 if ur reading this comment install uniblue driver scanner it scans for ur PC the hard ware stuff in ur PC that ur missing and it will download it for u so ur wireless will work again :) have fun :)
did you had trouble connecting to the internet?? i'm having a problem right now.. it says that i don't have a wireless adapter installed but i've already intalled it.. what do i do?
GREAT VIDEO! This PC despite it size has just the right specs to have Vista installed on it with no problems at all. 1024 MB of RAM is really all you need. I had a HP Pavilion TX1308 with Vista installed, as well as 1 GB RAM. Nice post!
oh, anyways I am an eep pc user myself although the 512 ram and the 4gig SSD that came with it are not very reliable. I just upgraded to a 1gig kingston ram and a 32gig Runcore SSD that will exrtemely blow you away for a netbook. I installed Vista Home premium. he didnt really install vista on the eee pc. what he is did is he is using the eee pc as a monitor. u can tell because he has a vga cord running from his big laptop to the eee
Don't. Acer fails in netbooks compared to Asus. Asus paved the path for the entire netbook industry, and in general have a good reputation. Get either the 900HA or 1000HA. You wont regret it.
Exactly how do people boot stuff when its an harddrive thats IN the computer? What files is needed, some ISO and then what? What software is to use, and how can it be recognised by the comp when it's not even on, i suppose you have to boot it when its on the startup, and if its right off the comp from some oftware, how is that done? Getting this 900 soon and I want ubuntu and maaby XP.
Hey, you can run a Eee Pc without the battery. I have seen Eee Pc´s on all electronic-stores without battery. It´s just like driving a portable DVD-player without battery. LOL!
Not only they do run without battery but you are advised to remove the battery when it's 100% charged and work only with the power cable to avoid wearing the battery
I have an eee PC 900.I changed its RAM and installed a 2GB.Furthermore I have a 12GB SSD and a 16GB SDHC Card.Its running XP.Can I install vista home premium on it?How?
Nice to know that Vista works, but if had to get this for someone now i know it can take XP for sure i'd pop a 1GB stick in there though 512 is a bit low but all in all it's not that bad.
i dont reccomend having this, it sucks ass, you have so many disabilities from what you COULD do in xp, i mean i got a £50 capture card for machinimas on the 360. doesn't work on vista, how much does that suck eh?
Probably took like a month to install Vista on the SSD that comes with this laptop. I took me 3.5 hours to get XP up and running on my new Acer Aspire One (the one that comes with Linux)
1. Buy a high capacity 16GB "SDHC Ultra" card, slot it into the EEE PC, go to BIOS, set the SD card as boot drive, re-install your OS on that SD card and you boot time should halve. The 30GB HDD will automatically appear as a secondary drive in My Computer (d:/) creating 46GB total Memory.
2. Replace the 1GB 533Mhz DDR with 1GB 667Mhz DDR2 Ram (go to Crucial to check compatibility).
Hi, i just bought the eee pc 900 celeron 30GB hdd + genuine windows xp home. i found the boot up time were reticules, very very slow.. it takes almost a minute plus to start up... nothing installed.. in fact i bought 2 unit and both are the same.. i wonder how you boot up your vista that fast?? please share..
I'm pretty sure the unit you have uses a slower 1.8" 30GB HDD (as found in iPods) rather than a SDD. Perhaps someone can confirm this? Check out my video "Asus EEE PC 900 Vista Vs XP Vs Linux - Boot & Shutdown Test" for proper boot/shut down comparisons.
idk wether to belive it or not did u just run the os off a external hdd or what coz idk how the fuck it would fit vista on the c: drive dont think theirs enough space
Hey, according to Microsoft, if you own Vista, you also own a license for XP. So you can use whichever one you want. I still don't know HOW it's supposed to work in practice, but I swear they just went public saying this.
The video above is running in a standard install of Vista with 1 GB of ram. VHP installs nicely on the 16GB internal SD card without any hacks. With 2GB of 533Mhz DDR2, and additional 16GB of SD (36GB total), turning off indexing and other optimizations, the performance practically doubles.
Vista eats up an additional 15minues of battery. The batteries are tiny so a simple solution is to buy a spare. The power cord and brick are tiny too.
If you open up a DVD box, that's about the size of the system. The box in the shot above is in the distance so looks smaller compared to the EEE PC than it actually is.
you can install xp and vista on an external USB CD/DVD drive?????????? can u install it on an external USB harddrive??cuz if u can i will defenetly try and get this pc
well if you buy this pc at bestbuys then it comes with xp. but i dont beleive you can install an operating system on an external hd. correct me if im wrong
That laptop looks like it could swallow the Eee PC so easily. The Eee is so tiny when you compare it to a normal notebook. Imagine how small the Eee would be compared to HP's notebook, the HDX
You can use a program like Bootit from Lexar and it formats the thumb stick as a bootable drive, and you can flip the bit, which means windows thinks its a Fixed NTFS drive, but I have not been able to do it right. Windows installs on it just fine, but when you go to boot from the Thumb Stick, you get a blue screen every time. Booting Fedora 9 or other OS's from USB is easy. But I wish I knew how to get windows to boot from usb
as far as i know, all the volumes are up full,,,and to reformat you need a external dvd drive and i dont have one,,i would like to use a different distro on the eee,
Xubuntu should be released in October. This is the EEE PC customised Ubuntu. It will have drivers for all hardware including camera and should be a good alternative to Xandros
The option to boot from SD card or USB is in the bios but I have not been able to do this. None of the OS install on the SD/USB without complex hacks.
i got a eee pc and the volume is so low that its hard to hear,,i may have some hearing loss from work but the volume sucks.,my mobile phone is way louder for playing mp3,s.
i think im just gonna buy a proper laptop with vista on soon,
I had a play with the MSI Wind today powered by the atom and it beats the EEE PC in quality, ergonomics, keyboard size, screen quality and functionality. The 901 has some MAJOR competition!
Why would you bother doing this?

If you open up a DVD box, that's about the size of the system. The box in the shot above is in the distance so looks smaller compared to the EEE PC than it actually is.

andydog93 3 years ago
actually yes you can install an operating system on an external hard drive, but it's not recommended. and ive heard its a pain to do it.

There's an option in the Bios to boot from internal SD, external SD, USB HDD/pen drive.

It will have drivers for all hardware including camera and should be a good alternative to Xandros

how do you reformat eee pc there no cd rom drive please tell me how
thekan033 3 years ago
external cd/dvd rom.

boot from sd card

The option to boot from SD card or USB is in the bios but I have not been able to do this. None of the OS install on the SD/USB without complex hacks.

i got a eee pc and the volume is so low that its hard to hear,,i may have some hearing loss from work but the volume sucks.,my mobile phone is way louder for playing mp3,s.
i think im just gonna buy a proper laptop with vista on soon,
jamiefox7 3 years ago
The sound on my units were pretty loud. Have you played with all the settings? You can always buy some cheap USB speakers.

Damn that thing is TINY! I'm getting my EEE PC 900 16G (YES ITS OUT, AND FOR $399!!! GOOGLE IT).
engl4nd24 3 years ago
I had a play with the MSI Wind today powered by the atom and it beats the EEE PC in quality, ergonomics, keyboard size, screen quality and functionality. The 901 has some MAJOR competition!
