Well like Clark, speaking for Newton, because Newton couldn't hold a debate with anyone, said that space exists, because we can see acceleration of an object and acceleration needs space. But how can one see, let alone measure acceleration, without a reference point? The waterbucket's reference point is the ground, we can see that something is happening to the water in the bucket, because it does not fall to the ground.

Not true, the historic fact is that Newton is the only scientist in history that has the most accusations of plagiarism. Don't forget about Kepler, the actual man who discovered the principle of gravitation;
