so funny - he sings of a composttumbler in midair - and no-one understands that we all are clowns - lovely voice (the best interpretation of that song I heard up to now) - thanks for posting

I've always enjoyed Alan's "bits" on Letterman. He sounded pretty good even when being funny.

I don't understand why the audience is laughing, is there some kind of history for that song? Seems more melancholic to me.

This must have been close to when Alan was first hired on, in 1999 or 2000. I remember there was an announcer BEFORE him.

You're sort of right. Kalter was hired in 1995. And yes there was announcer before him- the late Bill Wendell.
