  • cant have enough of this version, so lovely!

  • Great version of a wonderful song. Film is one of my all time favourites, classic.

  • My dear late husband- this reminds me of him/

  • A lovely moment in an otherwise mediocre film

  • We had this as the first dance at our wedding 14 years ago just love it and the film is still my all time favourite...

  • "Now, do the coffee jingle..." ;D

After all these years, I still love this film. :)

  • Imelda Staunton and Emma Thompson KILLED in this song. Imelda especially is sublime. How can you not get chills when listening????!

  • lovely

  • funny to see Umbrige, Trelawney, Lockheart, Dr House and the Chesire cat singing together

  • Now do the coffee jingle.

  • What a splendid cast. Isn't it funny that Dr House, of all people, would play the piano?

  • @Majik47 Not really. You do know Hugh Laurie released a blues album earlier this year. He is very much into music.

  • What a splendid cast.

  • Watching this video has made me realise how many brilliant and talented actos England has given us over the years. It also makes me slightly jealous. I wish I had been born a Brit.

  • @Charmredux

Dunno if you're an American, but if you are and it makes you feel any better, two Americans wrote the song!

  • Amazing version, I like this version the most among many. The film is my favorite for 20 years!

  • i want Imelda to sing this song at my wedding... if only ??

  • I am practicing playing piano for my girlfriend but it's not easy. Even if I am not good playing it, I will do it my best. Why don't you guys do it??

  • I can't believe that's the woman who plays professor Umbridge

  • Peter has the awesomest friends!

  • THANKS for posting this! I wasn't familiar with the movie, but I always love it when I get a chance to hear this classic tune, which has always been one of my fave songs & I think one of the most beautiful romantic ballads ever written. CHEERS, mate! :-)

  • @JubalCalif :)))

  • I ADORED this part of the movie. It doesn't hurt that my two sexies Hugh and Kenneth are in this. Emma, Imelda and Steven are GREAT as well. HELL!! it was a great movie period, A British Big Chill.

  • Look at Stephen's hands during the last 20 seconds! Marvellous...

  • i love this film so much, my friend and i were so obsessed with it for years, we memorised all the words to all of the songs including the underground song, this still make me feel nostalgic.

  • It should be a crime that this gem isn't more well known. (Their performance, that is. The song's clearly well known for generations.)

    Truly a beautiful class act.

  • She has done musicals in the West End such as Adelaide in Guys and Dolls in 1996 & as the Baker's Wife in Into The Woods in 1990. She has just been cast as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd which will be going to the West End after its Chichester run in 2011!!!

  • one of the best films I've ever seen :)

everytime I watch it, I find myself in a different character,

it's good to see, that I'm not alone :))))

    so thought I... :)))

  • OMG I thought I was the only person who loved this film x

  • It's one of my favourite films ever and I love this version of this song - beautiful!

  • Stephen doesn't sing in this...

  • Or ever.... :)

  • I would die if she did, hehe.

  • Imelda has a stunning voice. That first "tonight" is killer. I just have to gasp everytime and gush. She truly has a lovely, lovely voice.

  • Actually Stephen cant carry a tune to save his life...Which is probably why he isnt singing here...

  • Beautifully done. I love how spontaneous it feels.

Love the hand motions from 2:17 to 2:23 as well.

  • It is an absolute CRIME that this has not been made into an mp3 for purchase somewhere. It's so beautiful. Thanks for posting it.

  • I've made it into an MP3, unfortunately not for purchase, but if you message me I can send it to you :)

  • Aww.. what a beautiful peice.

Hugh Laurie is my idol since.. well.. forever XD He's just brilliant don't you think?

  • I only saw this film a few days ago, it's my mum's favorite, and was truly shocked by the beauty of Imelda Staunton's voice!

  • Emma, Stephen, Imelda and Hugh... three utterly brilliant performers! I love the chemistry they have on screen. It's so reflective of the obvious friendship shared off-screen. Such a sweet scene from a very decent movie. Thanks for posting it! :)

  • i love htis film thank god its finally out on dvd

  • Emma, Stephen, Imelda and Hugh are four people, not three.

  • Valid point, my friend. It seems I must either retake grade one and learn to count, or learn to proof-read before posting! :)

  • nope the fact is that Stephen&Hugh are one entity ;)

  • oooh touche

    very good

  • Beautiful ..

It's so genuine, it almost makes you feel guilty watching this, as if you're intruding on a private moment shared by the best of friends ..

I wish Slattery's 'Now do the coffee jingle' line wasn't cut out, though .. he's brilliant as well!

  • do you have fucking waights in here

    yes

  • I've had a thing for Alphonsia Emmanuel ever since she fell on her fanny in Rockliffe's Babies.

    Sorry to spoil the atmos.

  • One cosy scene with all favourite-actors, british and christmas. Everything that a film demands for me if it should reach perfection.

  • Utterly criminal that it wasn't on the soundtrack

  • @Kaleid7 Is that right? Probably they didn't want to pay royalties...

  • This is up there with my favourite films, I love the cast, the story and this beautiful song. A great British film!!

  • Now do the coffee jingle!

  • lol

now if everone would realize its not a branagh movie writtten by rudners husabdn

  • is it possible for someone upload the movie on youtube? watching this short video clip left me wanting for more...

  • I've always loved this scene--not only is the singing beautiful, but the sense of genuine warmth they create is utterly convincing.

  • One of the best flicks made EVER :)

  • Thanks a lot for posting this!!!

I saw Peter's Friends a long time ago and haven't had the chance to find it on DVD here in Mexico. This is one of my favorites scenes from the movie. The movie is great and definitely Kenneth made a remarkable job to put together many British talents in a very good plot, that back then was worth to take care of...

    Definitive two thumbs up :-)

    Thanks!!!

  • It's not my favourite film, 'cos it is too sad for me. But I think this is one of the most beautiful moments of the cinema...

  • Yeah, Mr Trumpet!

I hate Imelda Staunton, but her voice is certainly lovely.

  • Why do you hate her?

She is a remarkable actress, I think.

    But your opinion is yours.

  • Thanks for your high-level answer instead of giving a thumbs down.

As you said, everyone's free to have an opinion.

I was taken aback by this singing and I certainly don't deny that Ms S is a good actress, but personally I think, that her opinion of herself is a bit to high.

Hugh Laurie or Emmy Thompson are very humble, Stephen Fry and Ken Brannagh can get a bit bitchy from time to time, but Imelda Staunton is definitely toffee-nosed.

Take a look at the Harry Potter interviews for example.

  • Why should I give you thumb down? I was really curious.

    :) I'll check the HP interwiew :)

But I've seen lots of her movies, mostly dramas (Vera Drake for example a really good one).. so I think she is talented and has many faces.

  • Many people give thumps down, if a person says something negative about someone they like, which I find rather childish, btw.

You're definitely right about her acting/movies, I just can't stand her personality. And that again, is a personal thing, and can be totally different for you :-)

  • ok, ok :)))

  • @tineblondine just a note... How is Stephen Fry b*tchy? He is absolutely one of the nicest sweetest people ever, and very humble. Have you seen his interviews? I don't mean to speak rudely to you or challenge you, but I just wanted to make sure you had the right person there. He's quite the lovely man.

But I can see where you're going with Imelda Staunton. And I absolutely adore both Hugh Laurie and Emma Thompson!

  • @tineblondine As you said, everyone is entitled to their opinion but don't judge a person from one interview. British people can sometimes come across as " toffee-nosed " especially to North Americans, it is sometimes just the " Britsh " reserve " . I have seen her in many film and tv roles and she has been underrated for many years and in my opinion one of Britains best actors, but that is just my opinion.

  • Adorable singing!!!:P
