@britoca It only runs backward heading north and they can't afford to have two engines on each set, that would definitely be a waste of fuel and more then enough power. If they were to reverse the train, they would have do it at a wye track, and the only one on the route is in San Jose, plus that takes alot of time to switch. After 30-50 minutes at San Jose or San Francisco a train will go back to the other terminus as a different service, so that would be inconvenient for time.

the back end of the train is not aerodynamic at all, what a waste of fuel
Look how dirty that streamlined engine is from sitting in the smoke going backwards, wtf?! You can see the windshields are kept clean by the wipers.
