Wouldn't a dual monetary standard with gold cause a collapse in value of the paper? That's the sort of thing that used to happen in the good old days. That's why the dollar doesn't collapse now. It is the "gold" standard, or the pseudo oil standard. If gold became money again, gold would skyrocket, the dollar would collapse, the world economy would probably go with it, and the US's ability to use the dollar politically, too. It would be ok if we still had all the gold.
If you don't think the dollar is collapsing now, you're an idiot. It has lost one third of its value against the euro in the past 6 years. (And the euro itself is just another fiat currency that has also lost purchasing power during that time.) You don't need gold to make the dollar collapse. All you need is a government deficit spending like crazy and printing money to pay the bills -- what we have now.
Lose the ability to use the dollar politically? Well, yeah, that's the idea. It's called dollar diplomacy and it's one of the facets of why the US has troops around the world. It's one of Paul's major issues.

My guess is that there is no chance in hell for Ron Paul, unless the small number who endorse him essentially go to war for him. You will need to organize like no other effort of this kind before, on the small chance he does get elected don't forget the Kennedy's. I heard him say in an interview that he'd open it up to competition, with gold or silver-backed certificates. He's confident they would simply outperform fiat money and would become the currency of choice. Ron Paul was actually pigion-holed into discussing an actual issue. Needless to say he became very uncomfortable. So of course he started talking about peso's or something.
Criticizing the current government is not a plan or a dream. Anyone can criticize but that does not win elections.

Ron Paul is very similar to Churchill, in that he realizes that the challenge facing the US president in the near to medium future is to begin the dismantling of the American empire.

Wouldn't a dual monetary standard with gold cause a collapse in value of the paper? That's the sort of thing that used to happen in the good old days. That's why the dollar doesn't collapse now. It is the "gold" standard, or the pseudo oil standard. If gold became money again, gold would skyrocket, the dollar would collapse, the world economy would probably go with it, and the US's ability to use the dollar politically, too. It would be ok if we still had all the gold.

If you don't think the dollar is collapsing now, you're an idiot. It has lost one third of its value against the euro in the past 6 years. (And the euro itself is just another fiat currency that has also lost purchasing power during that time.) You don't need gold to make the dollar collapse. All you need is a government deficit spending like crazy and printing money to pay the bills -- what we have now.

Lose the ability to use the dollar politically? Well, yeah, that's the idea. It's called dollar diplomacy and it's one of the facets of why the US has troops around the world. It's one of Paul's major issues.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about...the dollar is worthless, it's a receipt that is backed up by gold, without the gold the dollar is worthless thats why we have a problem called inflation, because we print more money than we can backup with gold.

Send all your "worthless" dollars to me! Ha ha! It's a simplistic solution that's already failed, the gold standard. Maybe what we are doing now will fail, too, but we already know gold doesn't work. That's why we abandonned it.

It failed because the bankers decided they should print the money for us it's called the "federal Reserve" they suckered the president of that time into agreeing to this, and now they give us our printed money, but like any bank there is interest, so now we keep borrowing money from the federal reserve instead of printing it ourselves. Part 2. That is why this country is in debt, to private bankers called the "federal reserve". If you look back before the federal reserve the gold and silver system worked just fine.

NO we didnt abandon it because it was failing...we abandoned it to make more money then we really had to fund a war....educate yourself. Our dollar floats...it isn't real....what do creditors do when you have to much debt? Our government is a teenager with a limitless credit card

you know nothing about the reason for having fiat money. fiat is intrinsically worthless but its value is in that other people will accept for goods since they know other people will accept it for goods. This makes transactions easier and its real value is the good you can buy with. If people thought money was worthless they could just demand other forms of payment;
