  • I was about 4 or 5 when this used to air. My aunt's used to go crazy for the guy at the end ( with the speaking part), this ad popped in my head, so I looked it up, just to see if he was really so hot.... lol

  • @porgynbess Like your aunt, when I heard the music, I would run in the room to see the cute Sergeant! He was too fine------------great smile.

  • wow, brings back memories--I used to love this commercial. The black Sgt was so hot!!

  • I was a Junior in high school when this came out and I joined when I was a senior the next year. (DEP) Graduating BCT (D-2-1 Ft Bliss,TX) is a feeling I will never forget. Spent ten years in and dont regret one year of it. "HOOAH!"

  • luv the woodland pattern camo uniform...

  • What a nice first sergeant.

  • This is the Army commercial I remember the most from my childhood. I was about 7 when this started airing. Back then the recruiting commercials were top-notch...great slogan, great music. As for me, though, I was an Air Force brat, so the Army was NOT an option for me. :-) Still, I finished growing up overseas, went to DoDDs, and I work with militiary and VA students TODAY! Once you're in the culture, it's always a part of you.

  • This is when they got the first Woodland Army uniforms! How exciting it must have been back then to get a fresh clean camouflage uniform.

  • These are the army commercials I remember, and they made an impact on me. I still like them looking back and don't care if cynical types ridicule them as corny, etc. I felt there was something inspirational about them.

Hated the more recent "Army of One" slogan, but the "Army Strong" is much better.

  • My 1sg would have been like "why the fuck are you speaking to me, now go police call that parking lot"

  • hey first sg good morning

  • LOL best slogan

  • I just called the 800 number listed in the video... a travel agency answers... I guess the Army has a side line biz. lol

  • Now that was a mustache!

  • It looks like a freakin mcdonalds commercial

  • Theres nothing wrong with saying nhey first seargant good morning.its just the soldier has a postive attitude. and shows respect towards his superiors.

  • loved this commercial as a kid. made me wanna join. the commraderee was noble.

  • now that's rare.....an E-9 with a positive attitude.

  • If I told my first sargent good morning when this came out, I'd be painting rocks with white paint. lmao

  • we wouldnt have said good morning, he'd have said shut the fuck up faggot

  • The ARMY says they "NEED YOU" The Marines "NEED" no-one, the Marines makes what it needs. Semper Fi!

  • @Marinemiketobe My Marine recently came back from Iraq....he worked so hard they gave him meritorious promotion to Cpl and last week got a letter of commendation from his command on family day. We are so proud of him and compliment the USMC for building him up with the world-class training. Proud parent of a Marine..

  • damn i remeber that one havent seen a gamma goat in a long time lol

  • Why does this remind me of The Village People?

  • This is bullshit. Nobody is that happy on any kind of morning unless you just got a quickie.

  • "Winger, I've noticed you're always last."

    "I'm pacing myself, Sgt."

  • "..We do more by 9:00 a.m. than most people do in an entire day."

DUH, because you've been up since at least 0-dark-thirty!

An upbeat and perky ad competing in the age of Disco and Studio 54.

  • When I got to Fort Myer, VA and I was asked why I joined the Army, I answered that I liked the song. The Major says,"You liked the song, huh?"

    "Yes, sir."

He says,"Well, if you like that song so much, then go on over to the Army Band building and maybe Sergeant So-n-So will sing that f'n song to you personally!!"

  • My 1sg would of asked if I shaved with a brick and shined my boots with a snickers bar. HOOAH

  • how come they still used those old vietnam helmets for such a long time?

  • is that supposed to make people wanna join up?

we do more before 9 am than most people do in an entire day....

see that is why I dont like the army

they got big heads the lot of them

  • I was in that commercial also - Gino and I reenlisted the same day. I heard he got in trouble a while later - to clear the air - the first sergeant wasn't even out there. That was dubbed in - not even Gino's voice. We ribbed him quite a bit over that. This commercial sure invokes a lot of memories. For those of you from the old 50th. MOBSTRAC lives on ! ! !

  • @magission i was there too. support co. 50th sig

  • Legendary

  • hahahaha ! so retro ! :D

  • Probably the most memorable Army Recruiting Commercial of my day. Of course, having driven the Gama Goat that they show airdropping in, I would have suggested that it would have been better to drop it without the parachute.

  • i jumped for this commercial, the jumpmaster is a sargeant major, he took over for Gaweda, the gamma goat they show coming down didn't drive off that lz i garuntee! when it hit the ground the wheels went up over the top of it and it was done. the one they show was on the ground already. we sat on green ramp at pope for what seemed like forever. i thought i remembered something about the rain holding us up or we jumped through fog... damned old memoery.

  • Steel pot, and a Gamma Goat, and Billie D. Williams!! HOOAH!!!!

  • my 1sg would freakin say "shut up dumbass..im not youre friend"

  • Ahhh the old Gamma Goat!

  • Absolutely loved this commercial! Then I enlisted on my 17th birthday. Man the good ol days, BDUs, spit-shined boots, and pay chits.

  • can i join i dont think i could cuz their not muslim and i hate taliban

  • Looks like a typical 80s commercial. I wonder what they'd think of today's ads...

  • My DI would kick my ass if I said hi to him like that.

  • I thought this was a commercial for some candy bar or something at first.

  • This is the response I want to see from our goverment, for the nation of Hati that is in need of help or be it like in New Orleans when they needed help after Katrina. Not three or four days after the Fact

  • That buck was discharged due to drug abuse.

  • I met the MP that busted him

  • Kind of Ironic...That the "Hey First Sergeant...Good Morning" guy was actually court martialed for cocaine use...Found this out while stationed at Ft. Bragg during the 80's...shortly after the commercial came out...

  • @Anton7719 LIAR!!!

  • It's fun to compare this to today's commercial

  • @kablahblah22 Today they use the patriotism, which came up after 9/11

  • "hey first sergeant" "good morning."

  • This singer of the jingle is Jake "So Close" Holmes.

  • My first sergeant would have said "SHUT UP DICKWEED!!!"

  • @bryandamadman hahahaha very true!!! after a a combat heavy drop my 1st sgt wuld be like "hey shitbag what the fuck are doing sitting down...start policing up the DZ so we can get the fuck out of here!!" lol

  • @bryandamadman you're right. WTF is up with his mustache and unsecured chinstrap. Must be a REMF 1SG.

  • Funny as hell. 80s shit is so cheesy but catchy.

  • that is epicness right there sir, pure epicness.

  • whats the name the song and who sing that song?

  • holy shit, this commercial would never convince me to recruit

  • Man I totally disagree... moustache boy is the shiiiiiiit!

hahahahahaha just playin' this commercial was damn horrible rofl

  • hahahahahahahaha hey first sergeant how ya doin :) man false advertisement. you cannot ever just greet a first sgt like that. i love these old army commercial ads they so funny and lame and i doubt any of them are real soldiers either just actors

  • LOL no shit! My first sergeant would've slammed my face down into the dirt while screaming in my face, "BEAT YOUR FACE, NOOKIE!!!" where I would then commence in doing pushups until my arms flew off (rather than fall off), then we'd have some fun doing "front-back-go's" in the sand, until I turned into a full sugar cookie. The music, I am DIGGIN it, man!!!

  • lol this is so 80s themed its funny seeing how the Armay videos change over the years

  • Thought they were going to pull out a 7up or Pepsi at the end.

  • rofl

  • damn man i though this was like the beginning of some late 80's series or sitcom like McGiver or like Magnum P.I. by the song and great commercial

  • damn.. still using the m1 helmets. this is old.

  • I dont understand what the comment was about getting head ripped off for saying "Good morning First Sgt".. I did my 20 and they used the term Morning ' Top" which I feel is even more chummy. That guy in the ad used the correct term. Those were the days!! I went in in77 and did my time. 101 Abn. I agree also with thye poster who mentioned where did all the dress uniforms go. I loved the Khakis..

  • Oh heyyy first sgt. Can I haz coffee?

  • Haha nice one

  • This commercial is too funny. lol i like their uniforms better then than now.

  • Good Morning, First Sergeant?

If I had ever great my 1st Sergeant like that I would've had my head ripped off.

  • haha lol

  • Man....looking back these things were so chessy

  • I remember watching the commercial as a kid. I loved it. I eventually became a paratrooper in the 82d but I never got to sit around and drink coffee with my 1SG, that part is BS. Also, I think they should have said, "We do more between ) 0100 and 0300 than most people do all day.

  • This is the stuff that made me join the Army, the commercials, the soldiers walking around in their dress uniform (unlike now, they are go around wearing that tacky camouflage uniform. Obviously the generals don't know jack about tradition). I even still have a book cover with different Army patches! The "Be All You Can Be" slogan is definitely the best military slogan ever. "Army of One", is beyond sucky, they should execute the generals and beouracrats who approved that.

  • lmfao !!! that was so hilariously cheap lmfao

  • lol

  • wtf is that billy dee williams?

  • Does anybody know who's singing this jingle? His voice sounds very familiar

  • Anymore Be all you can Be ads would be nice, does anyone have any vintage Join the people who joined the Army, or This is the Army

  • does anyone remember the other "airborne" army commerical where the guy is writing a letter to his father that says, "dear dad, yesterday we made our toughest jump" then they cut to the jumpmaster yelling.."on your feet" i don't recall them sounding off for their equiptment check. it was just "on your feet" and then "stand in the door...go" i don't recall ever hearing my jumpmaster sound that loud once the side doors were opened. ahh..the good old days at ft. bragg.

  • "paper Sargeant, good morning" ?,,all those years ago I was never really sure what he said but if I joined all I had to do was jump in a plane then jump out, turn the ignition on a jeep, sip coffee & BS with the sargeant, when my day was over by 9am, then time to go back to bed.

  • He says "Hey, First Sergeant".

  • haha this makes me wanna join ......... nat

  • All aboard the Gama Goat.

  • wow!!!! wtf is this mickey mouse shit? wtf does "be all that you can be" mean? lmfao

  • I've gotta admit...their marketing skills have gotten better.

  • The version of the urban legend I'd always heard is he was kicked out for homosexuality. Yeah, really, who in the storied 82nd would flop his butt down with his brain bucket unstrapped like that? Chatted it up with some E-3's yesterday who had never heard "We do more before nine o'clock, etc." I felt old...

  • Actually, the lead guy in the commercial name is Derick Robinson. He was an actor and never in the US Army. He was married to the actress Holly Robinson. After they divorced, her name became Holly Robinson-Peete. Dercik is actually Canadian (Not American) and currently resides Vancouver British Columbia. He's now 53 years old and eventually became a Canadian Snowbirds piolet before retiring in 1998. He actually returned to Canada in 1983, soon after completing the commercial.

  • MelbaSoul, not to discredit what you say, but I have a different understanding. I thought they Army used real soldiers instead of actors for advertising. My first assignment was at Bragg 85-89 when the "today we made our toughest jump" ad was made. I "understood" the star was the driver for a BDE commander in the 82d. Looking back this seems to have about the credibility right around an urban legend, but we all believed it. That was after this ad was made so maybe the policy changed.

  • i spent two years at ft.bragg and i never jumped with my bdu sleeves rolled up. that always bugged me about that commercial. thats what happens when you use an 18th airborne corps slug instead of an 82nd all-american.

i also remeber the rumour that the guy in the commercial got in trouble for using drugs. thats an old army urban legend.

  • I heard that the dude that is sucking up to his 1SG in ths commercial got chaptered out for drug abuse. Anyone know if that is true?

  • i heard the same rumor when i was on active duty at ft. bragg(1984-1988). supposedly the main character got kicked out of the army for drug usage. this must be an urban legend...lol

it always annoyed me that they used an 18th airborne corps unit instead of an 82nd airborne unit for the jump.screw those damn dragon-heads...the all-americans rule!

  • I heard the same thing, too but the whole story lacked any sort of detail.

  • Kinda reminds me of the Marine commercial where they say, "And to think, some guy out there is buying a mini-van." ROFL!

  • thats a navy commercial

  • Do you have the same commercial, but with different lyrics? I recall a separate version.

  • :35 is awesome

  • I also joined because of these commercial and the one showing a tank crew.Greatest ARMY promo ever.

  • i LOVE this theme... anyone have more?

  • I think I joined BECAUSE of that commercial; went Airborne and everything. They failed, though, to show the latrine cleaning.

  • Classic Army commercial. Remember it well when I was in high school. Beats the heck out of the silly "Army Of One" commercials.

  • No doubt about that!

  • @oc61579 they both evoke emotions but this one is defnintely a very nostalgic commercial. espcially when we were on the brink of fighting those red bastards

  • Yeah what's with those...

  • And "Army Strong".
