kia has no resale value whatsoever. my friend has a 2005 spectra and it was apraised at $3500. Nissan has been around much longer and they are built a lot better. also the cube has underfloor lighting of like 20 colors. who cares if the soul has speakers that light up and they are just straight up ugly cars
one safety feature not menchened is that the cube comes standard with brake override technology. so in the event of stopping very quick, if you have the cube, you'll be better off...and the soul willnot sine at it's best in that aspect.
if the cube has such a history why isnt it way better than the soul that just popped on the market? i own a soul and cubes can go munch nuts.. xtronic is for pussies soul has triptronic gear changing at the speed of not being a queer cube.. the soul has everything the cube has and more... plus its not modeled after a hot tub how stupid and ripple speakers thats what everyone likes to see... no the soul speakers flash like a badass go drive your cube to the kia lot and trade it in
Neither of these cars personally appeal to me but my mom did get a 2010 kia soul and she regrets ever getting it. Crusing on the highway at 65 mph the rpm's are at 3400-3600 (compared to her old vehicle 2400-2500), the turning radius is worse than crew cab truck, the drivers ac vents hit the steering wheel, there's no arm rest but there are cup holders thank god... At 9000 miles she had a "small" oil leak(repaired under warranty) and at 13000 miles her ac is starting to mess up.
Haha, I don't see how these cars are going to retain resale value, regardless of company reputation. I think the majority of people kind of laugh a bit when they see these cars, but there are plenty who like them. I guess if you're trying hard to "make a statement", then knock yourself out!
The swing gate hatch on the Cube is a minus for me. Too low to the ground in comparison to the SOUL. That makes a difference where I live when the winters can get pretty deep with snow. Referring to KIA as junk is a matter of one's opinion based on opinion not actual facts of the matter. Nissan has in fact done it for years as Datsun and then the name change to Nissan. KIA has made some strides in being a very credible auto maker and has been growing even in this stagnant economy.
@tampavav I have a 06 Kia sorento with 92,000 and my friend has an 03 Sorento with 160,000 miles on it. Both are running great. Needless to say my next car will be a Kia. I've already started planning my next purchase. (2012 Kia Optima sx turbo)
I'd choose the Cube, seems like more room, has the CVT so it maximizes drivetrain without shifting, and it has the Nissan brand behind it. That means it holds value longer/better and has a better reputation for quality. Kia loses value more quickly and has a less than stellar reliability average. Nissan doesn't need the extra warranty because it has higher quality parts from a Japanese maker vs the cheaper Korean made product.
I rented a Kia Soul while on vacation in Hawaii. It's actually a pretty cool little car. Engine can get kinda loud (sluggish sometimes) but i did get 35mpg on the highway. This car is nothing to write home about but good for a commuter car or a student.
soul won the award for best interior design, Cano award safer, is very fast, my brother has one and up to 140 km steep hills without complaint, won the most exciting design. and above all bag the award for best car 2009 and has not yet choose another so for now the Kia Soul is the best car for everyone in the world
Nissan looks way more compactly than the Kia. The interior is more spacious. Also, the Nissan has the CVT Transmission, which I prefer. And I say it has pretty good fuel economy. Doesn't the Kia look a bit too 'old looking'?
@altima1fuga2 What are you talking about? Kia has waay better designs. PETER SHREYER made designed the car! He used to design Audis, VWs, and even LAMBORGHINIs. He made the Murcielago.
The Nissan Cube was already on sale before 2000, the Kia Soul wasn't even on paper yet then. The Nissan Cube has a WAY longer history than Kia Soul. Plus, the Nissan has Xtronic CVT and the 1.6 litre engine is fuel efficient. The Kia Soul doesn't look any different to other ordinary city cars. The Kia Soul is supposed to be a compact. The Nissan cube, however, looks different and creative. Some might think its ugly, but Nissan has put in a lot of effort in designing the Cube.
The Soul has only 4 speed transmission and the Cube has a continuously variable transmission. The Soul is noisy on the highway, the Cube is quiet. Also has more power.
kia updated the soul for 2012. they added direct injection to both engines. the 1.6 makes 135 horsepower and the 2.0 makes 160 horsepower. also, they will have 6 speeds too. the base model will have a 6 speed manual only while higher trim levels will get an optional 6 speed auto. the 1.6 will be good for 28 city, and 34 highway. the 2.0 is good for 27 city, 33 highway. they really stepped up their game!
"Hipsters" won't drive these: Bank loans and economic cars are too mainstream. They'll sport a Yugo because it's "Ironic" and not made from the Capitalist Megacorps or some bullshit.
I just bought a Cube after much research and I love it. I also test drove a Kia soul, I thought the Soul was too sensitive in steering and gas pedal. Also it was smaller inside compared to the Cube. The Cube is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. The Cube has a nice little pep when you excellorate and great turning radious. Also whips easily into parking spaces. The cube is one of those cars that you either love or hate and i'm falling on the love side. Go Cube!
What I can not love is the CVT transmission. A micro-wagon needs at least some torque, and the Cube's transmission is nothing more than an overgrown scooter transmission. And, a CVT needs replaced far more often. I don't throw my cars away after 2 or 3 years, and I put miles on them. The Cube is not made to last
i'm trading in my kia soul for the down payment on an evora, but the soul is all in all a great buy. you get way more than in that car than you paid for

I think the way the Kia Soul is built, especially the height, is very reminiscent of the first cars from Ford, they just seem annoyingly tall, maybe that's why the old man liked the Kia so much more?
@gzubens Our family has a 1990 Manuel Transmission Toyota Truck (it doesn't even have a name like Tacoma or Tundra, just truck). We also have a 2005 chevy Suburban. The Chevy is very comfortable to be a passenger in, but I prefer driving the toyota just because of the manuel transmission. Once you get good at it, you fall in love with manual. on the nissan sight looking at the cube, the first thing i did was see if you could get stick shift for it
Dear Retards, Kia's have Hyundai engines in them. The Soul uses the Beta II engine from Hyundai that also goes in the Elantra. The Elantra scored top marks from JD Power which included mechanical... Nissan is like the Dodge of Japan. The Koreans are coming! The Koreans are coming! Watch, half you over critical idiots with zero facts will be eating your words and driving a Kia/Hyundai within the next decade. They are on a warpath.
@EA12THQUAKE If you don't like a certain car that's fine, but there's absolutely no need to insult those who do like it and/or drive it. It only makes you look like an ignorant ass--good job.
Yea went with the Kia Soul to. The Cube just looks like a washing machine hahahaha...The Soul is awesome and an eye turner and I got the Special Edition Shadow Dragon Soul.
Jeremy Clarkson was right about the Cube: people buy Lamborghinis because they look intimidating and scary. The Kia is aggressively styled. The Nissan is just a square, which is not a frightening concept. Houses are square--not scary. Cheese is square--not scary. The Cube fails the golden rule of styling: never be weird. People will make a first impression of you when you step out of a car, and you will receive more negative opinions with a Cube than with a Soul.
Sometimes I hate people when saying that KIA is a bad car when they don't own one. I'm not trying to say i'm biased but every car is not perfect and have their own agenda. And besides, don't ever look at the reviews and sometimes they can be bias too. So is up to the driver whether the car suits them.
Interesting, though, that Kia didn't design the Soul for the target market of the guy who likes it. It's supposedly for a much younger crowd...his grandchildren, perhaps! I can see people using both the Soul and the Cube as their business vehicles, though.
Drove both . They Nissan was cheaper, and a better built car. The soul had actual flashing from the way the cylinder head was cast. Just cheap with a generally poor build quality. Also I will take a timing CHAIN over a belt that has to be serviced every 60k to keep that "monster" warranty in force. So Whatever Kia, I'll take a japanese car over anything made in korea.
kia is now getting better and having a good concept of design. in exterior as well the interior design of car. but i dont know if they now improved the engine when it comes to durability, and how it safe in road driving. but i admit that kia is now ready to compete in any leading cars manufacturers. kia!!!!!!!!go for it...!!!!!!!!!
I have a 2006 350Z (no to happy with it, but not to bad either) I was waiting for the 2010 cube for my daily driving but when I saw it ewww!, then I drove it and was worst. Finally I drove the Soul and today six month and 17k miles later, no problem at all and love it!! Now waiting to finish the Z loan and trade in it for a 2011 mustang GT!!!!
How sad... Kia needs to make massive ads to sell two cars... The quality is simply 'mediocre' and Nissan has more experience in everything (also transmissions and good engines). Sorry but the Nissan Cube is much better car.
About warranty... sorry Kia but I don't need years and years of warranty if you don't even accept the problems with your cars. The NISSAN is a better car.
It seems that the Soul is the better of the two if you're like me--an urban dweller who have to take a road trip every few months or so.. I would like to have that extra horsepower for merging onto the freeway & being able to overtake other vehicles.. Also the Kia warranty (5-year/60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper & 10-year/100,000 mile powertrain) beats the Nissan warranty hands-down..
Cube is just a little too FUNKY for me. And the rear hatch swings out from one side, kinda a pain if your parked in the city with someone parked behind out.. the car behind you will block the hatch from opening.
Not trying to slam the Cube. its just kinda weird looking. But HEY.. if you like it buy it.
Mabye you should do some more research. Consumer Reports is recomending the Korean cars more and more. Resale value is a decided by consumer perseption. And that is constantly changing.. Try selling your Camry right about now.
Last I saw in my consumer reports, Korean cars are good but the ratings on something like a Civic or Corolla will still obliterate them. Reminds me the process that Japanese cars went through, transforming from huge piles of trash to some of the best cars on the road. They are moving in the right direction.
Obliterate. ...hardly. look at the ratings on the Sonata and Elantra both are on CR recommended list. The rest are a bit of a mixed bag. But are getting better quickly... as is the domestic stuff. Chevy Malibu is really nice. Ford Fusion. New camaro and the new.mustang. all are greatly improved and I am.very happy to see that. Competition is always good for the consumer.
I just got a Kia Soul a month ago and I gotta say, I love it! It is roomy, comfortable, easy to drive, handles well and great gas mileage. Plus the looks are MILES ahead of the Cube, that thing is just ugly as sin. I don't know how a good car company like Nissan could release that thing.
@azuay I dunno.. Every Nissan I've owned (I've owned 3) has given me problems. My last Nissan, a 2007 Nissan Sentra, the alternator went out 2 months after I bought it new, I had a gremlin in the electronics (my power windows worked when they wanted to, my radio would just go off while driving & on several occasions the lights went off @ night).. The final straw was when the transmission went out. I just traded it in for a Kia Spectra which is trouble-free so far..
I like the Cube sooo much better ... the Soul is just so BLAH! lol This guy driving the Soul keeps saying that "this is where it is better" .... lol CUBE FOR THE WIN!!
When I first saw the cube I thought it was a joke. That was before I test drove it! I have to say it has a lot of room! My 6'5" BF can fit in it with no problem, along with his brother who is an inch taller. They have plenty of head and leg room! I like the fact that I don't feel the transmission shift when I'm driving. My I pod hooks up to the radio. I have the 20 different color lights flashing on the floor board. It also has 11 cup holders. I really love my Cube. Its so fun to drive!
I also drove the Cube, I wasn't expecting a very different veh from Soul BOY was I wrong. Cube's interior is more youthful and inviting, the rear seats ability to slide back and forth as well and seat backs recline is a major upgrade for passangers. The CVT tranny give the vehicle much better power and a smoother ride. It also handles better. Give it a drive before you buy.
I drove the Soul and fell in love, handled well nice and roomie and seemed to have good power in the 4cyl. However, it did have some rattles and noises that the salesman was unable to explain. We drove another and the same thing there with the rattles.
I havent driven the Cube yet, actually it is not sold in my country...but something that I am very sure about is The Soul is very good, very usefull, fun to drive, confortable and has good different style...The only thing I would like to have in Soul is AWD traction. Overall, I like it.
@TCB1468 Yes, it's not how much power you have but what you do with it. Martha Stewart started small but is a notoriously aggressive and sometimes ruthless business person. Even though she didn't have much to start with or big muscle on her petite frame she eventually carved out an empire for herself by slicing thru anyone that got in her way. Get it? Smaller engine, but better applied? (better transmtion).
@singer30028 If you look in the back of the cube the seats dont lay flat, so you cant use the cargo part as much... and and soul has a storage area under the cargo part for other stuff... Just thought I should let you know.
Its ppl like you who are to blame for the lately suckish Toyotas rolling out:
Since you go for brand perspective (good in the past), Toyota has realized that your kind would buy their cars EVEN when the lower their quality standards!
The Toyota era WILL be over soon. Hopefully either Honda or Hyundai will take over the reign, unless Toyota changes their current ways and restart making good cars once again.
Soul wins

I'm having trouble deciding between these two cars!
I love the Cube... but I also love the Soul!
Friendly0Dan 1 year ago 3
@Friendly0Dan you get japanese reliability with the cube, and in the soul, you are getting a poorly, slapped together piece of junk
saboobuu 1 year ago
@saboobuu Really? Thats what you are gonna go with? Do some research. Kia has a higher customer satisfaction than Nissan.
ryotaryuu 1 year ago
Lol you would pay more for a fkin box on wheels? Hell I can see a market for the cube but plz don't say it looks good, your lying to yourself.

CUBES ROCK!!!!
rondogg72 1 year ago 2
@EA12THQUAKE If you don't like a certain car that's fine, but there's absolutely no need to insult those who do like it and/or drive it. It only makes you look like an ignorant ass--good job.
NekoInKimono 1 year ago 39
Yea went with the Kia Soul to. The Cube just looks like a washing machine hahahaha...The Soul is awesome and an eye turner and I got the Special Edition Shadow Dragon Soul.
gower2352 1 year ago
Arguing about which of these lame cars is better, is a pointless exercise. In the end they're both $13k pieces of shit.

i got the cube cuz im 6 4, lots of space

I'd take the Soul, Cube or XB. I love all three of them the same. All three are built well and they're reliable, IMO.
giannial1985 1 year ago
Jeremy Clarkson was right about the Cube: people buy Lamborghinis because they look intimidating and scary. The Kia is aggressively styled. The Nissan is just a square, which is not a frightening concept. Houses are square--not scary. Cheese is square--not scary. The Cube fails the golden rule of styling: never be weird. People will make a first impression of you when you step out of a car, and you will receive more negative opinions with a Cube than with a Soul.
marshknute 1 year ago 2
sry but the cube is absolutly UUUUGLLYYYYYYYYYYYY!
mysticdarkness2 1 year ago
Sometimes I hate people when saying that KIA is a bad car when they don't own one. I'm not trying to say i'm biased but every car is not perfect and have their own agenda. And besides, don't ever look at the reviews and sometimes they can be bias too. So is up to the driver whether the car suits them.

@DtorBill
I used to drive 05 Nissan Altima 3.5 and I defently dont thin Nissans dont accept the problems.
cobaltss1985 1 year ago
Interesting, though, that Kia didn't design the Soul for the target market of the guy who likes it. It's supposedly for a much younger crowd...his grandchildren, perhaps! I can see people using both the Soul and the Cube as their business vehicles, though.
IrisMG 1 year ago
Drove both . They Nissan was cheaper, and a better built car. The soul had actual flashing from the way the cylinder head was cast. Just cheap with a generally poor build quality. Also I will take a timing CHAIN over a belt that has to be serviced every 60k to keep that "monster" warranty in force. So Whatever Kia, I'll take a japanese car over anything made in korea.
yamaxer 1 year ago
@yamaxer You wouldn't take ANYTHING made in Korea? haha idiot.. so you don't take anything by Samsung too!
yangaudi 1 year ago
kia is now getting better and having a good concept of design. in exterior as well the interior design of car. but i dont know if they now improved the engine when it comes to durability, and how it safe in road driving. but i admit that kia is now ready to compete in any leading cars manufacturers. kia!!!!!!!!go for it...!!!!!!!!!

Insanedriver11 1 year ago
@Insanedriver11 oh! and the cvt trans suck!! (bad experience with a Jeep Compass) Just google "CVT Nissan Problems"
Insanedriver11 1 year ago
Kia is for wiggers.
theburyboys 1 year ago
DtorBill 1 year ago
I like the Soul a lot! The Cube is really ugly. But I still hear a lot of bad things about Kia.
aparchedwarlus 1 year ago
It seems that the Soul is the better of the two if you're like me--an urban dweller who have to take a road trip every few months or so.. I would like to have that extra horsepower for merging onto the freeway & being able to overtake other vehicles.. Also the Kia warranty (5-year/60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper & 10-year/100,000 mile powertrain) beats the Nissan warranty hands-down..

@BobTheBigot dude i know that this is an old post and i am a bit later but hyundai and kia are the same company they teamed up years ago
bojan4o1 1 year ago
Cube is just a little too FUNKY for me. And the rear hatch swings out from one side, kinda a pain if your parked in the city with someone parked behind out.. the car behind you will block the hatch from opening.
Not trying to slam the Cube. its just kinda weird looking. But HEY.. if you like it buy it.
kens97sto171 1 year ago
Fuck the Kia (Killed in Action), piece of Korean shit. Have fun with your resale value.
XenomorphLV426 1 year ago
@XenomorphLV426
Mabye you should do some more research. Consumer Reports is recomending the Korean cars more and more. Resale value is a decided by consumer perseption. And that is constantly changing.. Try selling your Camry right about now.
kens97sto171 1 year ago
@kens97sto171
Last I saw in my consumer reports, Korean cars are good but the ratings on something like a Civic or Corolla will still obliterate them. Reminds me the process that Japanese cars went through, transforming from huge piles of trash to some of the best cars on the road. They are moving in the right direction.
CorvetteRacingFan 1 year ago
@CorvetteRacingFan
Obliterate. ...hardly. look at the ratings on the Sonata and Elantra both are on CR recommended list. The rest are a bit of a mixed bag. But are getting better quickly... as is the domestic stuff. Chevy Malibu is really nice. Ford Fusion. New camaro and the new.mustang. all are greatly improved and I am.very happy to see that. Competition is always good for the consumer.
kens97sto171 1 year ago
@kens97sto171
I suppose not obliterate but I don't think I have seen anything other than a Honda or Toyota get all full reds (or almost all).

KrunchyTaterChips 1 year ago
Cheaper isn't always better... I still don't know anyone that owns a kia.
I like the Nissan Cube And The Nissan Versa ( SL ).. I will be purchasing one of the 2
azuay 1 year ago
@azuay I dunno.. Every Nissan I've owned (I've owned 3) has given me problems. My last Nissan, a 2007 Nissan Sentra, the alternator went out 2 months after I bought it new, I had a gremlin in the electronics (my power windows worked when they wanted to, my radio would just go off while driving & on several occasions the lights went off @ night).. The final straw was when the transmission went out. I just traded it in for a Kia Spectra which is trouble-free so far..

TheAhemahemahem 1 year ago 2
I also drove the Cube, I wasn't expecting a very different veh from Soul BOY was I wrong. Cube's interior is more youthful and inviting, the rear seats ability to slide back and forth as well and seat backs recline is a major upgrade for passangers. The CVT tranny give the vehicle much better power and a smoother ride. It also handles better. Give it a drive before you buy.
duleym 1 year ago 2
I drove the Soul and fell in love, handled well nice and roomie and seemed to have good power in the 4cyl. However, it did have some rattles and noises that the salesman was unable to explain. We drove another and the same thing there with the rattles.
duleym 1 year ago
I havent driven the Cube yet, actually it is not sold in my country...but something that I am very sure about is The Soul is very good, very usefull, fun to drive, confortable and has good different style...The only thing I would like to have in Soul is AWD traction. Overall, I like it.

Hey does anybody get that martha stewart joke??????????????
What in the world???
TCB1468 1 year ago
@TCB1468 Yes, it's not how much power you have but what you do with it. Martha Stewart started small but is a notoriously aggressive and sometimes ruthless business person. Even though she didn't have much to start with or big muscle on her petite frame she eventually carved out an empire for herself by slicing thru anyone that got in her way. Get it? Smaller engine, but better applied? (better transmtion).

Thanks so much for posting this video. I'm planning on buying a new car this summer and I I had narrowed my choices down to the Soul and the Cube.
singer30028 1 year ago
@singer30028 If you look in the back of the cube the seats dont lay flat, so you cant use the cargo part as much... and and soul has a storage area under the cargo part for other stuff... Just thought I should let you know.

They are both crap!!...XB is the orignal with a more mature styling and Toyota reliability.
DJTEVAdotCOM 2 years ago
Toyota reliability?
Its ppl like you who are to blame for the lately suckish Toyotas rolling out:
Since you go for brand perspective (good in the past), Toyota has realized that your kind would buy their cars EVEN when the lower their quality standards!
The Toyota era WILL be over soon. Hopefully either Honda or Hyundai will take over the reign, unless Toyota changes their current ways and restart making good cars once again.
