@lptomtom I wonder how Greg Lake would have been on bass with The Who on a ful time basis. I say that since it don't look too encouraging for any ELP reunion tours and album anytime soon.
Pete's body has been taken over by the prog-body snatchers. They made him play this space-rock nonsense so he could reclaim his old SG. He must pay even more to get those old P-90's back. Beware of the body snatchers who turn you into a prog!
Zak's kit sounds much more even, modern and compressed, not to mention he uses a high hat! His fills don't hit your ears in anything like the same way that Moon's do- doesn't mean he isn't playing almost as well!Remember on the Tommy album Pete and John had to play a lot of the drm fills on Sparks because Moon was all over the place. These guys are different great rock drummers from different eras. As a Who fan I feel lucky that they have held on to Zak. He works off of Pete incredibly well
Agree, and disagree. I watched these guys on the Quadrophenia tour, and Zak was flawless. Nobody but Keith could have played that show any better. I think Zak is an awesome drummer, and puts his dad to shame, although seems like he is holding back a little at this performance? Simon is one of the best, and your right, he killed on the hall of fame Tommy performance.
This is why Zak Starkey doesn't cut it with The Who. He's an intelligent drummer (like his dad) but he's simply not a powerhouse drummer. It's too bad Simon Phillips declined the permanent job. He and percussionist Jody Linscott were great together during the Tommy anniversary tour and, in particular, on this song. The Who should have continued their work with that entire lineup.
I wish John and Keith were still alive. Zak does ok for Keith but you can sure tell John`s not there. Thank God the Who are still playing though. I love these guys!

Too quiet... I prefer the 1989 version (TV broadcast of Tommy live, with guest)

zak is too calculated on this song. that's the problem.

This is my favorite version of Sparks. Purely because of Pete.

Way too soft. Have him turn it up or get someone else.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Pete you are progressively getting old... worse... leave that Satriani crap to the fags and stick to re-mastering your old stuff.

I love Simon Phillips. But Zak definteley is the better man for the WHO, closer to Moon.

Great performance. Why is the image so narrow?

Yeah I miss John's work especially on things like "sparks" where his bass line is definitive WHO.
