  • i think if the tempo a little faster than this it's better

  • Wonderfull Romanian and Friendship spirit!

  • Bartok's nationality:

    - for the Romanians he was too much a Hungarian..

    - for the Hungarians he was too much a Romanian.

    - for the american he was too much an Eastern-European-barbaric.

I think that's why he was unable to find a real home for himself, no matter how hard he tried..

Beside, it's his music, what matters, not his nationality.

If you try to knead politics into it, it will bite you and will always reason otherwise.

  • so what if he is Hungarian? he can still compose romanian folk songs...

  • I feel so proud to be Romanian. This piece of music just captures Romanian essence perfectly.

  • I hope you know that the composer was hungarian...

  • @allinhungary hahaha. your name also...

  • Excellent performance. I listened to it again yesterday again played by the Georghe Enescu Filarmonica in Buchares. I think there is no Romanian on this planet that would remain untouched by hearing these sounds, especially on the 1st of December. Thank you for posting.

  • The good thing about this arrangement, is that the middle string voices really do sound like an accordion, which gives this that special floklore feel. well done!

  • Kicsit ki van herélve. Azért még jó.

  • Listen to the music and stop fighting .A real composer and a real musician is above petty things on which normal people fight!!

  • OMG! One more time:

    (Bartók |ˈbärˌtäk; -ˌtôk|)

Bartók, Béla (18811945), Hungarian composer, whose work owes much to Hungarian folk music. Notable works: Concerto for Orchestra (1943) and Duke Bluebeard's Castle (opera, 1911)

  • im playing this on piano :)

  • Bartók Béla (Nagyszentmiklós, 1881. március 25. New York, 1945. szeptember

  • Romanian Folk Dances is Bela Bartok most well known and most beautiful art piece, of logical reason. He gave his soul, so it could be perfect. I think, somewhere in his consciousness he felt more Romanian than Hungarian. Otherwise, I can´t explain why he even bothered to compose the song, espcielly the second act..

  • i love the 2nd movement the most.

  • Agreed,

and this orchestra is very well.

  • Béla Bartók was born in the small Banatian town of Nagyszentmiklós in Austria-Hungary (now Sânnicolau Mare, Romania) on March 25, 1881.

  • did u know bartok bela is hungarian not romanian and Western romania used to be hungary untill trianon >=(!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oooo x) I love Bartok

  • Nice!

  • do u know wich nationality had Bartók Béla?

  • he was hungarian

  • YEA right..Bela Bartok was born in Sânnicolau-Mare,Timiș county(Romania) from a slovak father, from around Bratislava and a german mother,Paula Voit.

  • He was hungarian. Even his name is hungarian. Read up on this on wiki.

  • I did and it doesn't mention his parents on Wiki but trust me he was of slovak-german descendt..about the name,it would be hard to prove that the name tell's the nationality when Hungary had the most oppresive law of hungarisation after 1867.

  • I think we should focus on his pieces. After all Bartok himself was interested in the folk music of many nationalities. Bartók dreamed of the "brotherhood of people, brotherhood in spite of all wars and conflicts."

  • And he was a foolish idealist ,thank you for remembering me that..artists are like that, disconected from reality i mean

  • Don't you think personality is more important than nationality?

  • This are not mutual exclusive.

  • Comment removed

  • Sânnicolau-Mare was called originally Nagyszentmiklós and belong to Hungary that time. So Bartok was born in Hungary. And his father was Hungarian.

  • Sânnicolau-Mare was the name and your hungarian Nagy..was invented for political reasons but this is not the point..Bartok had a slovakian father and german mother, check it out before you make big statements

  • Sânnicolau-Mare was in Hungary and had Hungarian name from the 15th century. It's absolutely false saying Bartok was born in Romania. It's like saying Hammurapi was born in Iraq. Maybe it's not the point, but I like to be correct and I like you to be correct.

I checked it out well. His mother was german, but his father was hungarian and he has hungarian ancestors.

And Bartók thought of himself as hungarian. I think that's the point.

  • I don't give a rats ass about your girlish feelings about nationality, but what is true holds out ..his father was slovak from around Bratislava, not hungarian..and I don't have a particular reason on claiming his birthplace for Romania..actualy I would prefer that no bozgor magyar would ever had set foot on romanian land

  • I read on many pages, that Bartók has Hungarian ancestors. Yes, they are evil and corrupted Hungarian pages, but I did'nt find english sites in this topic. If you show me one (or a german one), I would be thankful.

Your last sentence is very... interesting. Transylvania has been Romanian land just for about 90 years and even Romania is'nt much older. Hungarian have been here for a tousend years. These are historical evidances, check it out if you want.

    And please, nothing pesonal. Peace.

  • You have absolutely no idea of what you're talking about. Romania was in the carpato-danubiano-pontic space long time before the nomadic people that hugarians are now, came and decided to stay. Romanians lived in Transilvania long time before hungarians even existed. And now they are foolish and dork enogh to claim that Transilvania is hungarian land!?!

  • You suffers from a large amount of national frustration because of the history of your Romania. You're pathetic!

  • Yeah right! :))))

  • wow, thats so good! ive neevr heard these before, and thought that as my orchestras conductor has chosen this for me to play, i better see what its like.

not sure i can pull it off so well on clarinet, even with a string orchestra accompaniment. piece three seems rather high for clarinet and my tuning can get quite dodgy around there. hope conductor pulls it down whilst arranging it!

im a bit dissapointed with bartok here, why do six absolutely wonderful dances have to be so short!

  • I performed this with my orchestra when I was 14. This brings back so many memories!

  • they play really good but somehow i think my orchestra is better cause we r playing this song at carnegie hall in 2 weeks with Yo Yo MA as our special guest so wish me luck :D

  • Good Critiscm: The orchestra is very good, in tune, and they sound very professional. They also have a good mastery of the piece.

Bad Critiscm: The piece in general seems to lack a differentiated, diverse range of characteristic. One of the things i like about Rumanian is that the many different movements enable the player to give a diverse performance that will keep the audience interested on many bases, and I thought the orchestra did not fully utilize that 100%. Still, they did a good show.

  • Romania survived communism. They will also survive the New World Order.

Their music proves they are a brave heroic people who can survive tyranny.

Long live all the genuine republics of all the planet.

Death to the New World Order.

The patriots of all the world have had enough!

  • that is awesome for an orchestra to play!

  • i like this

in my school our orchestra is also playing this for our winter concert comin' up!!!

  • Bela Bartok was an absolute genius. Everything I hear by him is utterly unbelievable, and so much emotion! Thank you for posting this! My compliments to this orchestra! I love the blue lighted Christmas tree!!!! I thought I was a minority of one in that I decorate my tree all in blue each year!

  • Very nice!

  • wahwahweehwah! I'm out of my pants. Our orchestra plays it too, also really nice (mandolin orchestra version though) and it gets my buzz every time I hear it... Yum yum

  • The orchestra version is generally slower than the piano version. That's no trouble...

  • I'm playing this piece and my orchestra is nowhere near this good. I think that the second movement was too slow, though. I can kind understand the slower tempo in the 1st and 3rd movements... but I can't understand the second one, it almost drags.

  • yeah, our orch. is playing this song, and we don't do the 2nd mvmt as slow, but it's still amazing

  • The last movement is waaay too slow.

  • this is amazing.

  • the last dance was quite slow- it's supposed to be considerably faster. But still, there was a lot of energy here, which was impressive. AWESOME!

  • i don't know much about this sort of music, (i'm an indie kid) but i stumbled upon this today and i dig it big style.

    it's ace.

  • Supongo que Bartok no escribiò esa versiòn

  • The first movement is too slow, second also a bit too slow. The third doesnt start in tune. The fourth is good! Its a difficult piece for orchestra,th last three movements are actually quite good! I played it on the violin, i like it better.

  • I like the tempi, personally.

  • Alexakaluigi: you are perfectly right! Only the fourth one is excellent! The first 3 ones are too slow! But I like it this way too! Sound still a little bit unusual.

  • I wish my orchestra was this amazing. We're playing this piece, and it's not even half as good as this!

  • un' opera fantastica!

  • I love these dances, I did not like the first movement too (too slow), the third one, little bit out of tune at the begining... but great orchestra and great performance.

  • I hate how they did the first movement. But other than that, superb.

  • Egyszerüen fantasztikus, föleg a negyedik tétel, mintha kilépne a Tisza a medréböl és végigáramlana az Alföldön. Hátborzongató!

  • revad cu drag iar si iar!

  • Very good performance, the chords are fantastic. The forth movement gives me the chills every time. Bartok 4 ever

  • The approximative translation is "Watch Romanians. [This is] how others saw (perceived) us. Impressive."

    I'd say it's a positive comment.

  • vizionati romani,,,,cum ne vedeau altii!!! impresionat!!!

  • bartok, cel mai mare colectionar de cultura din eupopa de est. Tatalor ;)

  • thanks for posting! did these with my university orchestra and it's just sooo fun to play and hearing the professional version u can really appreciate how well the music was composed.

  • Do you mind if I use this footage in a film I'm producing? It's just a movie I'm making with my friends, but I need stock footage of an orchestra, and I think this would just be perfect.

  • Oh, I meant, my practice. I am performing this piece in a couple of days. I have been away from it all for a long time. I just learned what youtube is about. Very very neat and useful. Thanks again.

  • Hey I play them too. Will you put it on Youtube?

  • good reference for my study. Thank you.

  • yeah me too! thank you also =D
