I used these. It worked kind of differently. There was an attendant, who had to scan his card to push the 6 button to get the elevator to go.

this one goes 7 floors, but every floor has much higher ceilings than the dover the dieselducy filmed

Generally, two of the three elevators work on any given day. Don't ask me why, but one of them is always down for maintenance. But, I work in Visitor Services at the Newseum. They are in independent service mode, because the representatives act as elevator operators, in that we manually function the elevator and give a little spiel about the museum and interact with the visitors as we ride up, or down.
