@Javi1984limaperu Yeah, that's his genius. He observed Hitler's mannerisms and speech before filming. It's not all german, it;s mostly gibberish. Some words are german, some are just sounds, and some are english words slipped in.
That one bit of comic genius in which Chaplin as Hynkel pours water down his pants sums up the entire book, "The Mass Psychology of Fascism," by Wilhelm Reich.
Field Marshal Herring: "Weve just discovered the most wonderful, the most marvelous poisinous gas. It will kill everybody."
The film was released 1940.
Chaplin prepared the story throughout 1938 and 1939, and began filming in September 1939, one week after the beginning of World War II. He finished filming almost six months later.
the funniest thing about this scene. chaplin was always perfect infront of the camera. the repeated some scenes more than 40 times. but he totally improvised all that fakegerman speeches. he just say waht cam to his mind at the moment. leberwurst, sauerkraut, lagerbier, wiener schnitzel, blitzkrieg. he was genius. and yes i am german :D
indeed it's hilarious for german people (because everything's made up.. it's not really german but it sounds like it - interesting insight in how our language sounds to others :D) ^^
the movie is hilarious. and why should we cry about such a stupid and funny made hitler? he was the most stupid idiot ever.. nothing to cry about. he was pathetic. and the movie shows that.
i looove this movie! it's only funny but a brilliant satire =) the bits when he speaks 'tasmanian' or what they call it are the best!! one of the best hitler parodies i've ever seen =)
This is not German, there are a few words he says and which are real, just like Sauerkraut and Wiener Schnitzel, some sound a bit like words from our language. But at all it's just some bullshit ^^
i have no doubts that he's a real genius! do you know that the whole speech is an improvisation? he just said "action!" and started speaking this so-called language!:) and he did this so perfect, there's no one else in the world who could make a better parody of Hitler or anybody else! Such an expression in his voice and on his face at first make me hold my breath, but then i just burst out laughing:) oh, that classical joke with microphones and translation of his speech into english! :)
