It's just good to know that some of these magnificent Warbirds are still flying - living, breathing aircraft - and not just objects, gathering dust in a museum.
Something that ten year old kids (of all ages,) can still see, and hear, and be amazed by.
The people who put the time, effort, and money, into restoring these wonderful aircraft, honor the men who fought and died in them, and do a great service for us all.
I don't think people in general realize that the advantages and disadvantages of one WWII aircraft design vs. another were compensated for with great piloting skill and tactics. The P40 had a lot of disadvantages but when minimized via tactics were deadly to the enemy. I'm sure the same holds true today with moder jet fighters it's just that there hasn't been a war between equal sides to exploit these traits. Thank God for that.
@ReFLeXG4M1NG The P-40 should not be in anyone's top 3 list of American aircraft of WWII. The P-47 bumps it easily, as do the P-38 (in later versions in the pacific) and the F6F Hellcat. As for bombers, I love the B-17 as an icon of WWII, but arguably the B-24 was a more successful aircraft.
@FinnMcRiangabra By your logic, the P-51 should not be in anyone's top 3 list of American aircraft because the F-15, F-16, and FA-18 bumps it easily. You fail to take the year into account. The aircraft you speak about weren't available when the P-40 was in its prime.
@ahz123 Re-read my post. I specified WWII aircraft. Replying to @ReFleXG4M1NG's claim that it was one of the best three planes of WWII, not the best plane of "ever". So no, I did not specify early war vs. late war, razor-back P-51 vs. bubble canopy P-51 etc. That said, it's a beautiful restoration job and its great to have old warbirds flying.
Which iteration of the Curtiss P-40 is the fighter? I noticed the cockpit/canopy seems to be completely clear of any and all obstruction. Every iteration of the Curtiss P-40 airframe series, up to "N" had at least a partially obstructed rear-section; the "N" iteration reduced this, to a great extent.
Great job, beautiful bird, she looks good
