  • Until 2010, Lella Lombardi, along with Christine Beckers and Janet Guthrie held the record for the most women in the same major NASCAR race back in 1977.

  • Belissimaaa Lella!!!! Grande video!!!

  • gracias!!

  • que chatooo

  • Excellent video! I wish we could have seen Lella in many more F1 races... I think she was a talented racing driver.

  • Very nice video - thank you - GRande Lella!

  • good men, RIP lella lombardi

  • Simona di Silvestro seems to have what it takes to make it up the ladder and perhaps into F1. I don't think Danica has much more left to offer, she's mostly an oval racer.

  • brilliant tribute 4 the last female 2 EVER match the men in F1...now put the thumbs up if u ever want 2 c danica patrick in F1 starting now hahaha

  • Tomas - not enough is said of the lady F1 drivers of the past (Desiree Wilson included). I am glad you have corrected this - your video is excellent, the footage you found is amazing. As Desiree has mentioned, the women drivers never had the machinery to compete with on the same level as the front runners of their day, so were hugely underated, or overlooked - this is a shame, Formula One needs female drivers.

    Thank you again and welldone.

  • I saw her in 24 heures du Mans with Marie Claude Beaumont in 1975 in Renault Alpine Team.

I remember them, a team with 2 beautiful women.

    5 stars

  • she looks a bit like nico rosberg

  • Grazie.

    Altri tempi. Bei tempi.

    A. Lombardi

  • Tomas, Thank you for this video - I knew Lella - what people don't understand is that the woman who have raced or attempted to race in F1 have always had inferior cars.

Lella was a good race driver - I raced against her in the Aurora F1 British Championship race at Mallory park in 1979 - she drove a Williams FW06 and I drove a Tyrrell 008. I also raced against her in many World Sports Car races. She was a good competitor and I was saddened by her early passing. Thank you Desiree Wilson

  • Excellent and fitting tribute, well done Thoms

  • BEL TRIBUTO COMPLIMENTI

  • in these modern times it seems stupid that there aren't any women racing in f1. however the modern western woman is by and large a lazy entitlement princess who wouldn't do anything as adventurous or ambitious as Lella.

  • @055697 that is y they remain treated like bitches from the men 4 that hahaha

  • i had the privilage of watching her race in australia f5000, where she did a great job, particularly at oran park thank you for bringing back great memories

  • great footage and tribute...

  • The song is I'll be Waiting. Performed by Lenny Kravitz.

Nice video specially with this song.

  • Thank you very much for this video!

Lella will never die in our hearts.

I great kiss to a great star.

    Ciao Lella.

    Con affetto Massimo Traversa

  • That figures, survive some of the most dangerous years in racing, and die from cancer. I wonder if she ever ran in the US F5000?

She did race some god-awful dangerous cars, some ugly cars too!

    Cheers

  • VERY VERY NICE VIDEO

    5 STARS

PD : Can you say me the name of the song , please?

  • thanks for 5 stars and comment! name of the song : Lenny Kravitz - I'll Be Waiting

  • @VarieF1Hero

    Lenny Kravitz-I'll Be Waiting

  • grande lellona!

  • Ignore the Last year reference for Leanne, it was this year.

  • That's right gcmc2.

With the likes of McCrae, Perkins and Cooper (Creator of the MR8). She really raised eyebrows. And the female driver you mentioned a while ago that nearly won last year's(?) Gold Star is Leanne Tander (wife of last year's V8 Supercar championship Garth Tander).

  • Yes, it was a bit of a wake up for the Aussie drivers. Don't U agree it was a bit of a poor show to put her in the old A50 ? I remember so many guys in the A50/51s getting nowhere. Goss & Davison probably did best but Powell, Briggs & others couldn't make any sense of it. Hard to imagine that she wouldn't have smacked them in a T332 or T400. And yes Leanne's the premier woman driver here. She was 1996 state Kart champ & enjoyed success in Posche cup & F/ford among others.

  • Lella was a great driver and an equally great person.... she did "smack them" in the Matich car...the "old A50" was how old then ??? to the best of my knowledge the A50 held the lap record of 39.0 seconds at the "old " Oran Park track until it was upgraded...how many of the people making comments on this were there??

  • Yes indeed, A50 design was 1971 Of course the Lolas rendered most other things uncompetitive ( until some of the later F1 adaptations ) Matich himself gave up on the car - said it just didn't work. I don't think anyone but Lella ever even placed in an A50 / 51 ? These kids are just twits. They post comments to tell US how it was before they born ! Never mind that we were actually there. They wear their stupidity like a badge of courage. They likely no nothing at all about formula 5000s

  • nicely done. this just goes to prove that there is no justice. Just like barry Sheene, they devote their early lives to racing on the edge, only to die from cancer. It just plainly sucks.

  • Ahhh, the "Tigress of Turin" . I live in Australia and have a book called the "Complete History of The Australian Grand Prix", and in the early seventies she competed in the Australian Grand Prix when it was held at Oran Park in Sydney, and I think she finished second, I'll have to check the book to be sure, but the Australian drivers couldn't believe her drive and passion and how she was able to finish so high up the order. Oh and even though the field was curtailed due to the bad weather.

  • Yes, exactly, and more to the point she drove an old and very outdated matich a50 against T332 & T400 Lolas, MR8 Elfin and such. Nobody had been able to get an a50 or a51 anywhere near the front of a race for years. It was an insult to bring her out andput her in a car like that. Lucky for them they did though, because she'd likely have kicked their arses properly in a real car.

  • Belo trabalho!!

  • In that race her team mate Jochen Mass won, but it is a tremendous achievement for a woman to finish in the points, she is great

  • She is the ony woman to finsh in the points, superb

  • Who's this song by? And what's it's name? It's beautiful and i've heard it before.

  • Lenny Kravitz - I'll be waiting

  • She is dead:( much to early. She has reach the formule 1 and that's something to be proud of.

  • GRANDE LELLA!

  • I know for a fact(supported by statistics), that women don't have a natural tendency to like any kind of mechanical machines such as cars for example. They tend rather to like people. They pay more attention to faces from an early age such as 3 than they do machines in general. Men subjected to the same test, at the same age tend to pay more attention to machines such as cars. That's a scientific fact. There are, though, exception to this "rule", such as Lella Lombardi for example.

  • They say the difference between genius and stupidity is that genius always has a limit - stupidity doesn't. You're the living proof. You seem determined to remain a moron. She qualified for every F1 race she entered. She never had a car worth a damn. Her highest finish was 6th. Plenty of male drivers have worse records. As far as a worse F1 driver I can name several. Try Salazar for just one. A bigger job would be to find a stupider bone head mutt on youtube than you. What a fool you are.

  • You stupid little moron know nothing kids are all over Youtube talking crap and just seem to enjoy making fools of yourself. So the job's done here sonny. You've looked an idiot from the first word you said - all absolute nonsense and everyone else here knows it. You've shown everyone beyond any doubt that you're a stupid little grunt so now you better get down to Mcdonalds before you're late for work.

  • I'm guessing you're between 18 and 25 ? I doubt if you have ANY motor racing experience at all. I have. I have had everything from high tech hi power sedan cars to formula atlantic & formula 5000s all of which this girl drove. Let me know when you finish 5th in a formula one race with a hopelessly outdated car or second in F5000 an equally uncompetitive F5000 car. I saw her race although I didn't race against her out here. I know motor racing. From your post I know that you DON'T U R A moron.

  • FUCK YOU! Maybe youre a big gay fucker son of a bitch and youre against women because youre sooooo gay!! I support the nigger of Hamilton and any woman in F1!!

  • Very nice tribute.

  • Bravissima pilota

  • Well, "intrepidvs" What a typical 24 carat pommy dickhead you are. You wouldn't know a thing about this girl or probably anything else about racing. If you ever saw her race you'd know otherwise. Beats me how many guys just line up to make a complete ass of themselves on this site. 2.13 shows the outdated underpowered repco Matich F5000 A51 car they put her in for the Australian series and she ran it into second place long after anyone had been able to get any result with it.

  • right!:(I have 23 years old, but i'm a fan of 70,80 90 formula 1 years!I 'm a kart driver and races are my life!!You can see my tom pryce's videos tribute and comment!! ;)bye!!

  • Hi Tomas, true there have been few front running women but Lella was certainly one of them. Danica Patrick is another now. Women are born with the same potential for this sport as men. Main factor in their lack of number is the lack of interest leading them to the sport. That's changing now. What rules out most who do enter is lack of aggression. Those who don't have that problem are a different matter & guys on the track learn that pretty quick. Hits sofa dwellers hard in the pants though !

  • Reaction time isn't everything in road racing. Danica Patrick wins in indycar. Michelle Mouton was a top level rally driver. A girl nearly won the Australain driver's championship this year. Several girls have done and still do very well in top end drag racing. There is much more to it that you realise. Fast reactions help but are not THE governing factor. Top end open wheeler racing doesn't test reaction speed to its limit. Top drag racing comes closer & Women set some of the fastest times.

  • Hi, I'm from Alessandria, Italy. Thank you for this tribute to our best woman driver.

  • Ciao sono Italiano!!Grazie del commento!!ciao!!

  • Great video, well done.

Where do you get these rare video scenes from?

    Greetings Hannuff

  • A woman who deserves to be inducted into Formula One Racing's "Hall of Fame" - racing in what was perceived to be a man's domain, she broke new ground for the fairer sex, proving that she was more than capable of holding her own in this demanding sport. RIP Lella Lombardi.
