This was the best documentary I have ever watched in my entire life. It's a shame that most cartoons today aren't made like they used to make them. In my opinion, cartoons today are pretty cheesy, some of the voices they pick are god awful and some are just plain boring and weird.
I guess what made Peanuts so great for all these years is that somehow, someway, we have a little bit of at least one of these characters in all of us.
The 1960s/early 70s Peanuts animation had so much more life than the 1980s stuff (and today's). The first few specials had great design and bold color styling, and the character animation was filled with funny little qurks and expressions that were really hard-hitting and well timed. But that gradually got watered down as the 70s went on, and they ended up with what Iv'e always thought was a much blander, more conservative interpretation of Schulz's world. It just didn't have the same punch.
Charlie Brown DID kick the football in the 1981 special "Its Magic Charlie Brown", he got a valentine from Patty (a cheap one) and later Violet (a used one) and later won the baseball game by hitting a home run in the 90's.
I believe that special was "It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown"..he WAS going to dance with her in "Happy New Year, Charlie Brown", but Linus danced with her (and, of course, Sally complained that her Sweet Babboo didn't dance with her).
He also kicked it in A CB Celebration. WITHOUT Lucy's help, might I add.
When did Patty (original or Peppermint) give him a Valentine? Besides A CB Valentine, I mean. (And no, I'm confident Violet did NOT just pity him; she meant it.)
"What Have We Learned, Charlie Brown?" was my all-time favorite Peanuts special growing up. I watched it on VHS almost every day, but looking at it now, I get all choked-up 'cause I pay more attention to the D-Day stuff.
I love Peanuts more than anything. I still watch the specials all the time. Love Desiree Goyette's song at the end.

I think everyone has been able to relate to Charlie Brown at one time or another in their lives.

"Viewers from all over the nation sent him stuff."
Too bad there no dimensional gateways to the Peanuts universe. Then he'd actually GET the stuff.
And too bad Dexter of Dexter's Lab, Todd of Wayside, and many others have yet to garner the same sympathy. :(

Search for the "Flashbeagle" soundtrack. It's one of the songs in it.
I think it's a great example of one of Desiree Goyette's inspirational songs.
