  • lee, i started working out since last week. i admire your body but im not a body builder, i dont want to bulk as bulk as you. what i want is athletic figure, or like the MMA fighters. if i follow your work out on triceps,bicep,chest and traps, can i achieve what i want? do i need more cardio? please help.im confused.

    I'd recommend working all your major muscle groups, not just the traps. But to answer your question, YES regular strength training exercise will help with the pain you are feeling.

  • Lee-Does it matter which trap exercise you do? If you do dumbbells or the calf builder it is the same movement so why do them both? Also how many reps and sets do you do for your routine? Do you include these on back day or on shoulder day?

  • @leemhayward lee, guys at my gym say to roll your shoulders when doing shrugs, like roll them foward for 10 reps, and then the oppositedirection for 10 reps, is this good?

    It's ok to warm up your shoulders by rolling them. But when lifting heavy weights just shrug up and down.

    Trust me you'll never get "Too Big". The risk of building too much muscle is about the same as making too much money, it just aint going to happen. And if you were so lucky as to build too much muscle, just stop training and you'll lose it again :-)

  • I suffer from upper trapezius pain, I read these exercises would help, but I was told that my right side is weaker than the left.... should I do an extra repetition on the right just to even it out?

  • i also have trouble with barbell shrugs from behind so i use cables, take a few steps forward which really puts the emphasis on the traps, although i am limited o the weight, you can really load the barbell up put with the cables the machine only goes up to 60kg each side so 120kg in total...

  • I use the calf machine for Traps, i think its fantastic but i do get some strange looks from people as they think i'm using it wrong but i can say it is great for traps

  • Start working out the weak arm first then use same wieghts and same reps on the stronger arm. That way the weaker arm well catch up to the stronger arm.

  • I've just discovered that my left trapezius is bigger than my right and my right chest is bigger than my left. I have tried to do these exercises for just the right trapezius, but it feels like my right chest is also practiced. And I dont want that because I try to even up my muscles. Some tips on how to fix this the best way?

  • Im having a hard time getting the correct form.. My shoulders are developed a bit ahead where it absorbs a major part of what my Traps should be getting.. My Range of that motion seems shorter than it should be.. When I try to adjust it make smy neck crack and get pushed/pulled hard.. Im at 2:39 and Im goin to watch the rest..ty

  • I am 34, male, slightly overweight (15 lbs or so)...

    LOTS of daily constant trapezius, neck, mid back, neck tightness (they did an mri and I am ok), so is muscle related (computer, sedentary lifestyle etc). do you think these exercises will help me? I started doing them and the next day my trapezius hurted even more.... but I did feel relief right after I finished doing them.

    Do u recommend this to me?

    I think it could certainly help, but if you are not training regularly now I'd suggest checking with a physiotherapist first. They can help you with specific moves for your situation.

  • @TheRantingRedhead i already saw my doc for the same thing.... plus fibromyalgia and my traps are weak as hell which is why im always in pain. Excerising is the best medicine :] everytime i work out i feel a million times better. I hope you feel better ;]

  • @gdragon9410 Thank you. That's very kind. So far, plank pose on my elbows seems to have helped, but still hasn't made it go away. I have no insurance, or I'd just talk to a doc or work with a physical therapist.

  • @UZI9MMAUTO It's a number of things. First, it's just a little pain once in a while so, we don't bother with it until it becomes unmanageable. In my case, that is exactly what happened. Adding to the problem, I'm uninsured and currently, I'm unemployed. I've been going to the gym regularly for years, but traps are a muscle group I never really focused on.  I can't really speak for what is in anyone else's hearts. Some people have deep, emotional, reasons for not taking care of themselves.

  • @UZI9MMAUTO People that can't/won't help themselves can be frustrating, but again, if they are mentally ill in some way (which is extremely common for people that don't take care of their bodies), there is little anyone can do short of psychotherapy, the suggestion of which they always decline. These people often feel they don't deserve to be happy or healthy, so they wait until their pain is literally unbearable. It's like the age old question, why does a woman stay with a man who beats her?

Its a Self-pity attention getting traits he has. I was in the living room one day and he didnt know it. He ran in there like nothing was physically wrong as SOON as he saw me- He pulled off this HUGE limp again.. WHat gets me soo pissed is= he was so DAM OBVIOUS about it..     These exercises are good for building muscle, but to lose fat you need to focus on diet and cardio in addition to weight training workouts like these.

  • i'm no bodybuilder, but i train a lot for rugby, and have been asked if i am on steroids a few times (i'm 100% natural). the thing to do to get huge traps is powercleans followed by a drop set x4. of course, u cannot immerse yourself right into the deep end and will have to build up basic strength before commencing to use cleans. now, healthy diet, 5 meals a day, protein, train your traps in a compound exercise twice a week, with progressive overloading; et viola, big traps, very satisfying.

    Yes, proper nutrition is critical for getting in shape. And that includes consuming a high protein diet.

  • I believe another variation of the rope upright row would be low row pulley to neck am i correct? I use that exercise alot when i work out traps.

  • Hey great bid, I needed some variation in my trapezius workouts and I'm looking forward to the rope upright, I used to do it with an EZ bar but that still wasn't effective at reducing the strain on my wrists but rope looks like it fits my needs..... By the way you look like Van Damm lol I love his movies
