  • I owned a Pixma, but since I was forced to always stocking all of the cartridges (i.e black AND all color tones) in order to access other functions such as scan... no thanks. You don't even have the choice of simply not using color and just go with monochrome printing, you must load at all times all of the ink.

That's right folks- an Multi Function Printer that turns into a ZERO function printer if you run out of one cartridge.

I will never support such and abusive an unfair system.

  • thank you very much. your video was extremely helpful. Do you have instructions on how to set up the wireless lan too? The wired lan is working but for some reason having issues with wireless. Thank you so much.

  • @plepore I have no instructions online. My best advice is when adding the printer wirelessly it sometimes takes a long time to show up in your control panel on the computer.

  • printer service manual here: refillbros com manuals

  • Small bits of video which are explained in details, helps me understand the topic, thank you!

  • But how the fuck do you load it!?!

  • almayın aldırmayın

  • Ok, the most important thing! Running cost!!! I am paying through the arse for HP print cartridges, how many pages on average will i get out of normal text printing and what are the costs of the cartridges?

  • You're selling a printer. Why do I have to see an ad as well?

  • @wakaratwakawaka I am not selling, I am testing.

  • @MrSenkr It might be the third party ink.

  • ahmmmm how can i install mine ? ? my cd was lost ? ? can i still use my canon printer or how can i install it again plzz T_T

  • @songofmhine Download the drivers from the Canon website. It is all there.

  • @davomrmac

can you please tell me if there is a setting on this printer to print on transparency ....

  • @dest2baby I can't remember seeing one, though you might be able to install a profile to enable this when you buy transparency media to print on.

  • @davomrmac

Thank you for replying .. I have just been having a problem figuring settings for that and for printing on a type of film that makes like a negative for making polymer stamps ... thank you

  • I photograph a lot. Does the pixma 4850 or similar pixma produce great quality photos? Is this true about "dlab quality"? I have a small HP that i bought 6-8 years ago. It is OK but you can see the "pixels" on the paper if you look it closely. Also how many photos on A4 can you print with one set of inks?

  • Which camera did you use for the picture?

  • @Bwamao Sanyo Xacti VPC-FH1.

  • Set up this printer following your guide, and now getting a "6500" (which is the heading) "Printer error" ""Turn off power and back on , (didn't work) if problem p[ersists see manual"

    See what ? Where ???

  • Also... I like this printer, BUT I would also want Fax capability, while keeping all the functionality of this printer with the same quality...

Which model would also offer Fax capability?

    Thank you! :-)

  • How fast does this printer go through ink?

for example, the sheet you printed out at 3:30, how many times could you print that image out until it was empty? thanks! :-)

  • how do you do a mirror image print? i'm making t-shirts for twin day for spirit week, and i have no clue how to make a mirror image for my iron-ons. please help! it's greatly appreciated! :D

  • Could you make a video on how to set up the wi fi

  • Could you tell me how you make a mirror image print with this printer? I cannot figure it out at all and its driving me crazy!! Can you tell me the settings

  • Hi davomrmac, between the Canon MP640 and the Epson PX710W, which of the two poduces the best photo prints? They are both the same price roughly (£126 and £116 respectively). The Epson has CcMmY whilst the Canon only CMY but does that make a difference in Photo printing?

    Keep up the good work!

  • @codelaoder The Epson produces the best photo prints. The Canon is the best multi-use printer.

  • @davomrmac I disagree I may not have used the Epson px710w but I had the Epson R300. For DVD printing the R300 Epson was supreme but for photo quality I like the canon line better

  • @borgtennis Out of interest, which Canon did you like for photo printing?

  • @davomrmac Canon MP 750 the pictures just came out fantastic especially when using my canon camera - Canon MP 530 sometimes required a bit of tweaking. I find the more they evolve the more you have to tweak with the settings. My old Epson R300 was perfect for DVD covers and cases the finish product was very professional. however, side by side for pictures especially when linking the camera directly to the printer

the mp750 was better for me. I realize these are older models though

  • @borgtennis Many thanks.

  • Does this fax

  • Whats the best, Canon or Epson?

  • @RobertoGaspar69 Epson for purely photos, Canon for economy and all-round use.

  • @davomrmac Thx a lot Davomrmac !!! I had still have an Epson, and yes l agree it was really impressive for pics, so l guess l will buy a Canon then...many thanks for your kindly reply! Do u think Canon works good with Macs? Oh and another thing, l have good impression on Panasonic video cameras...do u think Canon camcorder is able to compete? Once again, thx for your videos and help !

  • @RobertoGaspar69 Canon works fine on the Mac. Regarding camcorders, I have tested a lot. Canon are OK, but my new Panasonic SD700 rocks, superb in every respect.

  • @RobertoGaspar69 Oh l see. Yeah l have a panasonic and it was great! Thx again !! So thats what lm going for....printer Canon, and a new camcorder by Panasonic, the model u told me ;) thanks Sir !

  • A very good review! Thanks :)

But I couldnt help but notice that the picture you printed had a bit of a red hue... or was it just the video?

  • @Calvinkoolz Probably just the video, looked good to me.

  • I HATE HATE HATE Canon, I'm going to take the Canon Printer iP1600 that jams all the time into the backyard right now and slam it into pieces with a sledge hammer and I might do the same with the garbage Canon Camcorder DC100 I wasted $350 at Sears totally useless, I can't get the diskette pictures onto another medium. I hate this stupid company. F&&&& You Canon !! &**^& The ONLY printer to buy is Brother and camcorders? I don't know, maybe Sony.

  • @jgray110 Well... go to the forest and take a deep breath ;)

  • Thank you for your quick response. I have a Mac (Snow Leopard) and Photoshop CS4 extended, could you please tell me exactly what Scangear software and Twain plug-in I should download. Thank you so much.

  • @LAPrentice1 It comes on the CD with the printer. Or go to Canon's website, select support, software download centre, multifunctionals, select your device, language and OS, click submit, it'll then show you the software available. I downloaded the OSX Printer Driver 7.22 plus the Scanner Driver for Mac OSX (15.4.2).

  • I have tried to scan going via Photoshop as you have shown but when I click on 'import', it does not give me the option to import straight from the Canon MP640. Did you have to download something additionally which you did not show in your video. You mention 'scangear' - what is this? HELP.

  • @LAPrentice1 I used a Mac, installed the Scangear software and Twain plug-in. I can scan either with the Canon software, or straight into Photoshop.

  • thanks very much, a lovely clear and informative review :)

    im getting one

  • @raj1vad Cool, good luck with your purchase.

  • Great Video...thanks..

  • @going2sleep Thanks for your comment.

  • thankU for your effort :)

  • @indigoin0z Cheers for your comment.

  • Appreciate the thorough review of this printer. thinking of buying this so very helpful.

  • @Cyclotreker Thanks for that, I am glad it helped.

  • Can you remove the print head for cleaning easily? I know you cant do that for epson.

  • hey guys, i am having troubles with my new canon pixma mp640, everytime i place the inks in the printer, you know how the red light is meant to come on when they click in, the lights don't come on mine D: please help me

  • Just wondering if you managed to get the duplex mode working? I didn't have any joy with it.

  • HI!

Just wondering how ink consumption is. How many sheets per cartridge do you get?

(Colour & Black and White) Thank you!

  • @rachelsvideo12388 Hard to say, I suppose I got a mixed use of about 300-400 sheets and then had to just replace the Cyan. The blacks are still more than half full.

  • You didn't show the use of CD printer sleeve...can you?

  • @wrightways Does the printer come with a CD printer sleeve or does one have to buy it separately? Thanks

  • @johns2rt Comes with it.

  • @davomrmac Thaks for your speedy reply! I just bought a MP640 and didn't find the CD sleeve in the box anywhere. Is it "inside" the printer? If so, I didn't see one.

  • @johns2rt Ooops sorry misleading, I think you eject the CD from the printer itself, it is built-in.

  • @davomrmac Thanks again. I wrote Canon's Tech support and they replied as follows: "Thank you for your inquiry. .... Unfortunately, canon printers sold within the United States do not have the ability to print on CD's or DVD's.Canon USA has made the decision not to include the CDR/DVD printing feature on consumer printers sold in this market."

  • @johns2rt Oh wow, being in the UK I didn't think it would differ.

  • which brand is best out of Epson,Brother,Lexmark and cannon ?

  • Hi.

I have a very important question,,,i have the choice 2 buy either Epson Stylus Photo PX710W or Canon Pixma MP640,,i really couldnt choose my self...if u have the choice ,which 1 will u choose? and why?,,,,plz im waiting 4 ur resopnse...

  • seriously something is wrong with scanner... over 1 minute for a4@300 dpi? my old lexmark 3300 scans a4@300 in 37 seconds

  • @Pinnger

Here a color/BW scan in 300dpi only takes about 15 sec (I am only talking about scanning time, not including printing.)

An exception is the first scan after you switch on the machine, because then the scanner need to warm up (I assume). I believe this warm up takes about 20 sec or so.

  • I DONT GET IT - in manual is written: "scnner reolution 4800x4800" but in your wideo in CS3 available resolution is in range from 300 to 1200? so where is 4800?

  • Hi davomrmac...Could you tell me if this printer accept cardstock to print on? Also does the ink smudge or need time to dry before touching?

    Thanks for the vidoes...very helpful!

  • No to the card stock, and the ink is dry on output (or seems that way to me).

  • Hi, between MP640 and MX860. I cant make a decision.

  • epson px700w or canon mp640 ?? best printer

  • My choice of the two would be the MP640. Epson PX700W is very close though.

  • @davomrmac I thinking about mp640 to but px700w have Claria whit 6 different colors and mp640 have only 5 colors. So why you pick up this mp640 ? :)

    Thank you

  • I got fed up with Epson not recognising my third party inks. Also the MP640 delivers nice crisp text. The build quality is superb. Photo output equal to the Epson. Paper handling slightly better.

  • @davomrmac Please let me know the difference in COLOUR print quality between the Canon PIXMA MP640 and 990. The MP990 is superb in black & white prints, but according to Canon colour prints with the MP990 should also be better. Is this true? The MP640 has a CIS scanner and the MP990 a CCD scanner. What's the difference in scan quality between the MP640 and MP990?

  • @Agnetha2006 Sorry, I have never tried the 990.

  • What's the difference between the PX700W and 710W from Epson ? Don't know what to buy Canon MP640, PX700W or PX710W. Need good picture quality, and CD/DVD printing, WiFi.

  • DUPLEX in 710 - only

  • Cannon printers are the best. Do you remember when apple used to make printers? They were awesome.

  • Excellent review once again Dave, really thinking about purchasing this printer after your set-up guide and review if it!

The best tech reviewer on YouTube!
